Since I posted the quick breakdown, I've had alot of people email me asking for examples and quotes on similar/better systems. I'm happy to do this for anyone.
You can email me at Curnel_D@hotmail.com

If anybody buys one of these,PLEASE do yourself a big favor and replace the power supply after you give it a test run. That 300 watt is way underpowered for this unit and is probably the
reason it failed in the first place. My dad had a similar computer that bit the dust because it had only a 250 watt ( I couldn't believe it myself)PSU.Install a decent 450 watt or if you plan on upgrading the graphics card and drives, use at least a 650 watt. Antec, OCZ, PC Power and Cooling ( The best you can get.)are the ones I would recomend. Just trying to help everyone out.

Don't install one unless you upgrade the PSU.
You will fry the lone gerbil's bearings on it's wheel if you install one. It doesn't have any power left to upgrade anything

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE: It can't run Extreme gaming cards due to voltage/watts or due to having only one PCIEx16 slot. so What good gaming card I can install, believing they are UNDER $100.[/quote]

LOL, x2 3600 is extremely cool, i had one for about a year and a half. Overclocked it from 1.9Ghz to 2.7Ghz easily and still kept the temps down.

300 watts should be plenty for the included hardware.

W7 Pro will have "XP mode" which is basically virtualized XP, which will be available as a free download from MS

but requires that you have a valid XP license essentially meaning you have to own XP as well. Its not just simply a quick little free add-on for Win 7.

Not true. On budget boards, they also use x8 PCI-Express and even down to x4 (though it gets useless at that point to do a dual gpu setup).

That said, as everyone else has stated repeatedly, this will only house one card at a time be it a card with two GPUs mounted on it or one.

After taking 95 watts out for the processor, remove the wattage for the dvd, hdd, fans, motherboard chipsets, and the cheap PSU not putting out 300 watts, you aren't left with much reserve.

If you want a low wattage graphics card that can play a ton of great games, then the ATI 4670 is a great card. I bought mine a long time ago and it was $80. I'm sure it's gone down in price by now. If you upgrade your power supply, you can get a better ATI card for around $100. It'll use more power but have a definite speed up. the ATI 4770 is cheap and much faster than the 4670.

Mescalero wrote:Yeah, I get why MS is has W7 in the wings, but that doesn't answer the question. Will xp programs that won't run on vista be able to run on W7? If you don't know, thats cool, just say so. I mean, you don't work for the evil empire do you?

That question can't be answered with with a definite yes or no without specifying whether you mean all programs or most. Most or many, yes. All, not likely. Personally, I've used XP drivers and my old programs on various machines without issue. And no, I don't work for MS but it's simply amazing that even as a RC, W7 is near perfect. Sorry if I come off as evil.

Pommy wrote:W7 Pro will have "XP mode" which is basically virtualized XP, which will be available as a free download from MS

Small businesses using XP mode will get full support. As far as MS is concerned, everyone else can go Kazaam (1996) in a hat.

Saw this this morning at 6:30 central time. Thought, what about a monitor? Oh, that's at sellout. Went to sellout, already sold out. What gives? Glad I didn't purchase this, then go to sellout only to find out I couldn't get the monitor. Seems woot does this a lot -- sell things piecemeal on woot and sellout and not as a set. Kinda wonder if things would sell out faster if, for instance, an ipod was sold WITH a base instead of separately on different sites. Guess we'll never know.

This sounds like an awesome deal for a system of this type. trying to build on your own even without an OS would run a little more.

Yes, AMD's run a little hot however my experience with HP systems is they have increadible airflow. They may not be the prettiest of cases but they are very well built.

Not to mention this is only going to be offered for a limited time directly from MS for people who actually buy the full version of Win7.

I've also heard that it's going to have time limited functionality meaning eventually, you'll stop using all your XP programs like it or not.

Not true. Anything above home premium will come with an aditional XP lisence to use for the new virtual mode.

Something to think more about is if your processor supports hardware virtualization.

I just ordered this computer, but now I'm kinda worried about the PSU. My current computer has a 300W power supply running a dual core, dvd drive, 2 HDs, 9600 GSO GPU, etc. It runs these fine. My current dual-core processor is older and it takes up about 95 watts, like this quad core does. I plan on taking the GPU out of my current computer, and putting it in the new one when it arrives. Do I need to worry about anything else in this computer taking power? Because it kind of looks like it will use the same amount as my current one.

EDIT: Also, I could easily live with just the one hard drive this computer comes with, since the two I'm using now only total 400GB. Also, my GPU rarely gets hot so the fan never gets to even 50% speed, while gaming. I know this is cutting it very close, but I should be able to get by?

What

It does not require an XP license and is simply a quick little free add-on for W7 Pro and above

It's not being offered for a limited time and it's not time-limited ... it's a FEATURE of W7 Pro, etc.

It's not some weird new pseudo-XP MS cooked up, it's just a specialized version of MS's VM that can only run XP SP3

See the chart here

And note #3

Edit: If you're running the RC and want to try it now, here:

If the parts are running fine in your old computer, they'll run fine in the new computer. You only need to worry if you get one of the newer fast video cards that require over 100W just for the graphics card. the graphics is the biggest power hog nowadays. but why move all the parts? just take the graphics card and get a cheap graphics card for your older system. or get a newer nicer card for the new system.

I do plan on taking just the graphics card out... lol. The old one has integrated graphics too, and I plan on using it as a server, so that's all I need.
Also, it's been almost 5 days and it hasn't shipped :/

Just as a reminder, Woot ships within a five-business day window beginning the day after the event. Typically your order confirmation email should say something like:

"Your order will typically ship within 5 business days. To check your order status, go to the Your Account tab at woot.com, log in and check your order history."

So this was sold Monday. The first business day following the order is Tuesday, and the fifth being the following Monday.

Most orders ship earlier. Not all will. As in the FAQ, patience, grasshopper.

My account doesn't show mine being sent either, but my wife just called and said it was delivered about 30 minutes ago. (Illinois, 20 miles east of St Louis)

Thanks Woot! I didn't expect it until next week.

I hope that ends up being the case for me too, since i live 10 miles outside of Dallas, the other Woot headquarters...

Plus, I bought a new power supply and an Nvidia GTX 260 yesterday and i'm itching to get this computer, install these new components, and have the best gaming experience in my life... so far...

Also, you can track without a tracking number. Grab your order number from your receipt, then go to FedEx.com and track using it as a reference number.

Put the order number in the reference number box, and then fill out the rest of the form (you don't need the account number) and you should be able to track your box.

I still haven't received a tracking number from Woot, but I can see my order is scheduled to arrive today.

I just used JSP2000's instructions and was able to track my shipment. The computer was sent from Elmswood, NY, on the afternoon of the 24th, so it doesn't look like Woot! actually had these in their warehouse. Which could explain the delay in posting shipment information.

I thought the same thing. Interestingly, yesterday my delivery estimate was also Saturday. This morning, it changed to Friday, and later to Monday. But it's on the truck for delivery, so who knows? I'm not sure it's a real accurate estimate!!!

FedEx is surely a mysterious beast taking DAYS to get from Carrollton to other nearby Dallas suburbs. Glad y'all have the tracking figured out.
Sad that y'all still don't REALLY have the tracking figured out. As always, let us know if you have any problems *courteous bow*
