Obviously, you are wrong, since it is demonstrably on the "essentials" list of whoever put this set together. Of course it doesn't say what it's essential for. Maybe these discs are essential for warding off zombies, blinding UFO pilots, or beating Nicolas Cage to the next National Treasure. But whatever the compiler was defining "essential" as, they thought all these movies were it. Why do people feel the need to speak as if they know the minds of the other 6.772 billion of us? almost 7 billion is a lot of different opinions and viewpoints.

The back and forth between anti-BFC folks and the other side has been instructive. Those who were against it had two reasons, usually stated as either knowing enough of the facts to see MM as a charlatan who panders to the left, and/or being unwilling to give any money to support anyone or anything associated with MM's dishonest movies. Both reasons were well and reasonably stated many, many times.

On the other side, there were also two points of view -- the first wondered why anyone would boycott the whole set when many of the other movies were so good? It must be assumed that those who argued this point have never held a strong enough belief to boycott anything. It's a maturity thing. They might see the point someday.

The second group on the pro-BFC side reacted with the typical, irrational, fever-swamp mentality that relies on name-calling, Bush Derangement Syndrome, and irrelevant nonsense to vent their spleen. "You dummies are brainwashed by Limbaugh and Fox....Bush was the worst...."

The intellectual bankruptcy of the left always shows itself in those typical, ugly rants.

You're all making too big of an issue out of absolutely nothing. Don't care for film X? Don't watch it! Really can't stand film Y? Throw it out! Who cares, you just paid $50 for a ton of really great movies.

whyaylooh wrote:Actually, folks who bought this here didn't even have that much influence over whether or not those 17 pennies made it to Michael Moore's next royalties check. That money changed hands when the inventory was purchased to be sold. So, technically, Woot! already contributed that $465.83 to Michael Moore before this set ever showed up as being on sale last night.

This, of course, brings up two points to ponder:

1.) Will folks who refused to purchase this set because it had one DVD by Michael Moore out of moral principle now boycott Woot! for having contributed up to $465.83 to him? (Nah, scratch that. They will ignore this fact, and continue to rationalize that it was the America-hating hippies who bought it from Woot! who gave him that money, not Woot! itself.)

2.) Will folks who refused to purchase this set because it had one DVD by Michael Moore out of moral principle now avoid purchasing Bandoliers of Carrots, because one of the items they could get could be this set? (Hmmmmm . . .)

That was a very nice two pronged fork - listening to the the balloons pop was music...

I really think that those pawns who made all the comments about their "stand" should listen less to AM radio - watch less FOX "NEWS" and get out of the house more - spending time with people who do not have mimeographed (but still claim to be 'independent' thinkers.

I've got an idea for all the Moore-haters who bought this: WATCH THE MOVIE.

Then you can come back and tell us how "treasonous" it was.

Or, maybe Santa Clas Conquers the Martians - either way is cool.

Looking closely at the discs, only a few of them look worse than what you usually see on rental discs. I'm more interested in having the movies than any kind of "investment" (especially since dvd is on its way out). I'll try watching a few of the ones that look the worst this week. If they play, then I won't worry about it. The cardboard "book" that the set came in is worthless for storage, however, so I'll be buying a box of cd cases.

Yeah probably about 10 discs of mine had come loose and earned some nice circular scratches. Usually these are the kinds that are going to effect playback the most. I may try to use a disc doctor on them and see if i can buff it out on the worst ones.

Those things that look like screws ARE screws... grab your flat head and tighten em up. All 3 had come undone in mine and pages were everywhere... had to put them all back and rescrew... seems to be fairly secure now

mine arrived today. lots of loose discs, but not a one had any scratches so I guess I was lucky. after putting them back into place, I quickly discovered it doesn't take much to have them fall out of place again; just hold the pages at the wrong angle.

all three retaining rods of the binder were snapped in two, but I was able to unscrew the pieces from the screws and discard them and attach the screws to the remaining portion of the rods which were just long enough.

in all, some [creative] reassembly was required but otherwise a very happy woot this turned out to be.

First time I received a product from Woot I'm not thrilled with... not sure if "condition: new" was entirely accurate (I've experienced a mish-mesh of some of the same problems mentioned in this thread so far)... and there's some sort of dried fluid on the first few pages of the "book."

On the positive side, I sent in an email regarding this matter, and the folks at Woot hit me back in next to no time, asking if I wanted to arrange a return of the product. Can't complain too much in that regard.

Was hoping I could simply exchange it for a version of the product I paid for without some mystery fluid splattered across the first few pages... but, I reckon they did sell out - and any left-overs would have, likely, been posted during the woot off.

Guess I'll talk to my fiancee when I get home and ask her thoughts. The option to give this as a gift (one that we were entertaining), is certainly off the table... as well as using the "book" as a long-tern storage solution. Might be worth keeping the DVD's, though...

Mine also had a broken screw and clear signs of shelfwear. I'm a bit peeved that it was marked as "new" but arrived broken and obviously used. I can't find a way to contact UA's sales department on this, although a bit of Googling shows their general phone number as 310-449-3000 and I'll try that tomorrow.

An alternative idea: could someone buy this on Amazon and then RMA the Woot product? Does Amazon charge a restocking fee for broken items?

UPDATE: Contacting that number immediately gave me a helpful employee (no press 1 for robots, even!) who passed the buck back to the retailer. Apparently they don't "deal with that sort of thing here." But she said that if I can get in touch with whatever distributor Woot set the deal up with, that person MIGHT be able to help. I will need the specific info like the lot number and serial numbers. I'll look into the Woot RMA process now and see if I can get that info.

Mine got here yesterday in perfect shape--a few disks had slipped out of their sleeves, but they were unscratched.

I just hate it when I get a new Woot. I have to stay up late playing with it--and this was no exception.

12 Angry Men was a superb movie--both in its day and today. I'm a happy Wooter.

Well, I know this is an old thread but I figured I'd share my thoughts here too...

like many of you, the 1st thing I had to do when I opened the boxed set was re-insert just about every disc back into their slots in the book. I'd say about 90% of the discs have light scratches but it doesn't look like it's bad enough to affect viewing the movies. There are a few discs that have a larger amount of scratching on them that does affect playback. and of course the 1st disc I pulled out to watch has the most scratching on it, and it freezes and skips about 30 minutes into the movie.

I went to the UA site but was unable to find any email address info, so I called their DVD support line. the lady who answered seemed VERY uninterested in my issue and only advised me that I could send the set back to them and I could get a replacement but advised that it could take over 2 months for the replacement to ship.

http://www.myspace.com/white_kenny

if you can read through the whole woot-cast you will see:
"The crap comes in one bag, no matter what. “Irregardless,” as people say. The quantity you order? That’s how many pieces of crap we’ll put in your bag."
Basically (for myself and for those who didn't go to college): One bag + x crap (x being the number of crap you've ordered).

Yes, yes, I know that a small cadre of sociologists, political "scientists", and communications dunces have established the Newspeak term "conversational terrorism" to enhance their empty rediscovery of argumentative forms; but I will wait until they study Aristotle and apprehend it sufficiently before I will bother responding.

Golly, you are a real piece of work, JKBC. If your comments made any sense, I would respond to them in detail, but you will have to be content with the following:

Yes, of course your comment was easy, as easy as it was empty-headed and pointless. I assume you have dropped out of college by now. It appears that your leftist professors have addled your brain too much to make a simple, cogent statement of fact.

Mine was not a rant, it was a short review of the nature of comments on this Woot. When you learn the difference, I'll know you have matured enough to matter. Until then, you don't.

I am done with you.
