Hmmm, I'm now considering buying one for an Xmas gift, but said person always watches with the captions. Would be interesting to get a confirmation.

I'm with you. It was that film that won the Golden Palm & holds the box office records. Why would they pick BFC instead?

Because that wasn't UA, it was Lion's Gate

60 cents a DVD? What kind of fairy tale mathland do you live in?

(just messin with ya)

$50 / 30 movies = ~$1.67 per movie (even if you go per disc it's $50/46 discs = ~$1.08) Still a good deal with some classics in here.

I ain't signing anything! What? It's not that kind of signature? Oh. So that's what it is? Oh. I'm still not interested.

Moore ALMOST killed it for me, but it's such a good deal and I do love many of the other films, I figure I can just not watch Bowling for Columbine and if I dispose of it quickly no one will ever know that I had it at all. The only one I actually already own is West Side Story. Well and maybe Rocky. I think I have that somewhere. Definitely a good deal. In for one.

This is very tempting to me. But I'm afraid that it will be all banged up like the war DVD's I got not to long ago. They were listed as "new" also, but my tin appeared to have been used as a step stool at some point in it's life. Going to have to sleep on it.

I don't see how you'd get that figure, unless you divided $55 by 90th anniversary.

Ummm, yeah, pretty close (it would have to be the 91.6th anniversary).

Here's the actual breakdown:

$55 divided by 30 Movies = $1.83 per Movie
$55 divided by 42 DVDs = $1.30 per DVD disk.

I have many of these movies but bit anyway. The packaging is pretty cool, and perhaps I can sell a few of the ones I already have and come out ahead. This is a great deal ($1.19 per disc). I think this'll be gone by morning.

My initial reaction was "Bowling for Columbine? No way am I interested." Then I thought: "Maybe I should buy this just to desecrate (use your imagination) a Michael Moore DVD, the rest of these movies are OK."

Great item for a first-time wooter.

And as for the BFC complaints, you can take the disc out to the gun range with you the next time you go. Who cares? With a 30 movie set there's bound to be a lemon or two; that doesn't ruin the whole thing!

I guess that's why you only have 1 woot so far Dianrez. Some people always find a reason for no deal, usually it's a low balance in their checking account or no credit.

I disable captions on my TV's, they're a pain in the behind unless someone is hearing impaired.

Under $2 per movie is a deal. I bought only 1 as a gift and glad I did.

You can go to sleep now, this is another good deal you lost out on.

darn: there are a lot of films here that I both like and don't have, but due to budget cuts, I'd much rather have half the films for 5/8 to 2/3 the price.

Bytheway: the monkey island remake is awesome!

Edit: clarification on fraction syntax.

What's with all the Bowling for Columbine hate? Out of all those films, that's The Big One? You're all Sickos. I'll tell you The Awful Truth, my friend Roger & Me use Fahrenheit 9/11 times even though celcius is a better system.

60 cents?
$54.99/30 = $1.83

But..... yes, even 3X $0.60 is still very cheap.

Some people really like watching movies with the subtitles even if they can hear just fine. I don't know why UA would make a fancy compilation and leave out subtitles, especially since they usually charge $150 for the set.

I wish these were individually packaged, so you could give away the ones you have extras of without it affecting the set as a whole, if you see what I mean.

This is an issue in the case of the Bond movies - I'd have duplicates of all of them, but both in different sets.

the talk about this dvd set cracks me up and makes me want to not read anymore at the same time. Bunch of whiners about 1 movie! sheesh.

Also! All this talk about mr. moore and mr. Limbaugh makes me think of the family guy episode where they are suspected of being lovers...

can we talk about what you all think of that instead?

hoho, I saw that one. It was funny until I actually thought about it. Then it was just icky. Those are definitely two people I never EVER want to think about having sex lives.

heretic0 wrote:Why does the first disk description say "Marty P&S"? Doesn't this mean Pan & Scan?

That's because it's a very old movie (1955) and was filmed in 1.37:1 ratio. Since that's virtually identical to 1.33:1 (aka 4:3, the standard-definition TV, non-widescreen ratio), it can't be presented as widescreen without cropping the top and/or bottom off of the movie.

The description really should say 4:3 rather than P&S, since there's no panning or scanning going on. Unfortunately, P&S has stuck as the description of 4:3 regardless of whether the original format was 4:3 or not.

I stayed up for this?!?

All of you Moore lovers who are so in to documentaries should check out "Manufacturing Dissent." The creators set out to do a bio of Moore, but once they started to dig it quickly turned into a documentary about what a hypocritical, misleading asshat he is.

Wrong - clearly, it's a documentary if I agree with it, it's propaganda if I don't. As any fule kno.

It's called "voting with your wallet" (and your conscience).

BTW, only 1% or less of "rat poison" is actually poison... far less than the 3.33% that BFC contributes to this product.
