I had not seen 'Bowling For Columbine'. I just looked up the movie on Wikipedia. I don't understand what the hub bub is about. I think that I have seen almost all of the 30 movies listed at one time or the other, 'Bowling For Columbine' was somehow overlooked. Obviously from the controversy here, this is a must see documentary which I will do when my order arrives. I had no idea that I had such a large gap in my background. Odd that so much has been discussed about Moore's patriotism here. From the Wikipedia description, Moore appears to be a truer American than from what I have been reading from the Woot Blog discussion. So, you win. I've ordered one set and now I'll have to spend at least 2 hours to see what the hub bub is all about.

Oh, you closed minded brainwashed fool. How can you assume that liking Moore immediately means you can't be religious? What, is religion reserved for only conservatives? I'm pretty sure the Bibles "chosen people" isn't the American right wing.

Criticizing America equals "hate"? Meanwhile they REALLY hate an American movie maker so much they can't even just ignore the DVD, and I already hear some of them say he's not even a "real" American because he's not a flag-waver.

Remember when it was "patriotic" (and still is for the real haters) to not even care about counting the number of innocent people we kill, while missing the bad guys and creating new bad guys? America the Perfect, no matter what?

Yay... good luck with your Palin-Shiavo 2012 ticket.

Great deal! I have repeatedly found myself longing for this set and have watched it get as low as $150. I almost bought it at that price a few months ago and couldn't be happier that I didn't.

I have to agree that some of the movies suck (mainly why I've never purchased the set), but any movie lover really can't turn this down for the price. I own some and dislike some, but overall, the price is right. I'm in for one!

Just ordered one for me and one for a friend.

I could do without the Birdcage and Bowling for Columbine, and already own The Magnificent Seven and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, but hey, 26 movies for $50 is still a really good deal.

By the way, if you dislike Michael Moore, you could probably take a Sharpie and dress up his page in the album a bit. Doing that and the super-low price might ease your pain.

I am happy to see that this UA dvd set offers the Pre-UFO cultist ownership discography. Hopefully by seeing this excellent set sell for so cheap, it indicates that this sale is not putting any more money in the Co$ Messiah's pocket.

I already own most of these [who wouldn't?], but was reading down the list until I came to Bowling for Columbine; if this has that piece of cr@p in it, I don't want it. UA shouldn't try to palm that dog off on its customers w/ the rest of the classics in this set, it just won't hunt...

Went to the UA website (http://www.unitedartists.com/) and plowed through the Flash pages. Hard to believe, but their main page is showcasing "Valkyrie" and thinks it is still in theaters. They seem to have fallen on hard times. (Stinky website. It's all Flash, so you can't go back, but have to start at the beginning each time or open new tabs every time. They don't bother to list DVD information.)

This looks (almost) exactly like the thing they call "United Artists 90th Anniversary Deluxe Gift Set... a 46 disc set featuring 30 films." The only difference I saw (without looking in a lot of detail) is that the UA website shows both versions of "The Manchurian Candidate" (1960's and 1980's). It doesn't sound like it's supposed to be a bargain bin set to me. Even though they have even fewer details than woot!'s product description, I suspect that closed captioning is included.

No promises, however.

Could we please get any indication on bonus features of any kind? Also:

All DVDs are widescreen format (Five also include standard format version)

and somebody said that the 2-disc DVDs were the ones with WS and FS, but there are by my count 16 movies with two discs, so there goes that theory. Please Woot!, what is on the other disc?

Star Wars is Forever!

Sigh, these comments are pretty depressing. Sure, you have every right to dislike Michael Moore, but most of the rest of the movies are AMAZING! And besides, of all of Michael Moore's films, this is probably the LEAST to do with right-vs-left issues! It's still a very important and informative documentary on the issue of gun control and violence in the country. Yes, it's biased. But the issue is important, none-the-less.

Why are some of you not buying this just because it has Bowling for Columbine included? It's a toss way, or maybe just perfect for taking to work and saying, "gee I already have this movie, anybody want it?"

When is the last time you donated to your local library?

Care to bet on these selling out?

Wow. I'm going to put aside the Michael Moore stuff and get to an actually helpful link.

I think the poster who said that this was the best available edition for each movie as of 2007 is probably correct.

http://video.barnesandnoble.com/DVD/United-Artists-Deluxe-Gift-Set/John-Wayne/e/027616095510#TABS

EDIT: click "scenes" to see the full list of special features. This lists every special feature on each disk, as well as, incredibly, every chapter. I'd hate to be the poor schlub at B&N that had to type all that up.

For the hearing impaired folks, it looks like most of these, indeed nearly all, have English subtitles. Also looks like a lot of commentaries, documentary features, etc. It does NOT seem that the 2-disk versions are simply Full vs. Widescreen.

I'm a little cash-poor but it's really, really hard to say no to this many great films for so little. Totally in. Would make great ebay bait, too, except nobody seems to be buying. You could try your luck on Amazon I suppose.

+1.
that's like including the corpse of a pig in a collection of 30 playboy playmates-of-the-month.
With the exception being that the rotting corpse of a pig is a more tempting entertainment choice than that fat pig Moore.

toss-away, yes, but then there's be that blank spot in the collection. that's a deal-killer for me, I can't see wasting that much space.

I do, however, agree that Moore is best described as a "white elephant", but if you gave him away at the office gift exchange, you could never in good conscience show your face at work again.
