It's actually a pretty good price...even for a refurb. A refurb TV is usually not a big deal. Cosmetic damage in shipping is a common reason for them to be 'returned'..and 'refurbed'.

Newegg has them for only $30 more, and it doesn't say they are refurbished. Dunno...

The next nearest competitor is way and above though. Hell, Wal-Mart is selling it new for $1,600.

I don't love Phillips, but they are like a Panasonic camcorder. Everyone loves the Canon or the Sony while Panasonic quietly outdoes them just to grab some market share from the two 900 pound gorillas in the room who rush their junk out so fast to try and stay on top that they are becoming unreliable at best.

Just my opinion though. ;-) I wonder how much of my ramble the filters will annihilate.

I would definitely not get this tv if I lived in a neighborhood with frequent crimes. Especially if my living room was visible from the road. That's just a bad idea.

I have the same television set at home, and I would most definitely recommend picking up this woot... if the cost was more reasonable. I got mine brand new for nearly the same price.

I've seen this same refurbished model on another site for $100 more... Not much of a deal...

From Philips:
HD Natural Motion for ultra smooth motion in Full HD movies
Philips invented HD Natural Motion to eliminate juddering effects that are visible with movie based picture content. HD Natural Motion estimates motion in the picture and corrects juddering movements in both broadcast and recorded movie material (such as DVD and Blu-ray Disc). The resulting smooth motion reproduction and excellent sharpness take the viewing experience to a higher level. HD Natural Motion removes judder from SD and HD pictures, including 1080p, for a motion performance that surpasses the cinema!

That DVD/VCR and probably the stereo too are Funai junk. They are as far as you can get from quality.

I use this TV as my monitor. It's awesome. Everything about it works flawlessly -- I'd recommend disabling a lot of the silly/worthless "features", but once that's done, it performs incredibly well as an HDTV and monitor. Also makes it really easy to type or work from bed =).

The 120hz feature is the most disgusting thing I've seen in TV technology. Basically, it takes the 24-frame rate of the movie you're watching and it makes up the extra frames in between to digitally remove the motion blurring. So basically, it makes film look like video. If you appreciate film, do yourself and favor and SHUT OFF THIS FEATURE.

The ONLY time this would ever be acceptable is if you're watching sports and want all the motion detail possible.

I can't believe this feature is enable on all of the demo Blu-Ray movies at Best Buy. It makes them look absolutely horrendous.

Uuugghh, quality brand. I've had a Philips, dvd burner, mini sound system, tv switch, various remote controls, and some other junk go out well before it should ever had. I swore the band off for years and went with a Philips tv switch and they didn't disapoint me. It didn't even work out of the box

I video game on my panny all the time, for hours sometimes. I did a good break in on my panasonic when it was brand new and any ghost images that I have are hardly noticable and disapear within 10 min. Burn in is a problem with lesser brand and older plasmas.

Exactly, I bought a Philips 42 inch, got the setup complete and then it didn't work. Took it back to Costco!
This is on the Costco site now if u want to spend over 1200 for a TV this is a good choice:
Sharp Aquos
52" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
$1,499.99

Costco extends the MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY to two years from date of purchase. Plus take back in 90 days for any reason... this Philips is a bad deal...

I had a TV (Bravia) that has a similar function to this, and it upset me. It almost felt like all the characters had been cut out and were sliding along the screen like so many "South Park" paper characters. I would not buy this TV based on its magic "super-realistic-majigger," but rather based on the other stats that are consistent from TV to TV.

Plasma's still deliver better blacks and greater viewing angles than LCD's. They consume more power, but you gotta do what you gotta do for the better picture. I'll take a plasma over a LCD anyday.

wanpakumono wrote:What exactly is the "natural motion" feature? How does it work?

I may be wrong on this, but "natural motion" is the 120Hz. This is in relation to the "blur" you may see on your tv if the image moves. You would see a trailing effect or shadow.

Many TVs are 60Hz, and this often becomes a problem for hardcore gamers. The 120Hz is more "natural" as if you where really there. In other words, there aren't extra little frames behind a moving person.

I hope that is correct/made sense. That is how I was explained it way back when.

I have the 47" same exact model. got it refurbished a year ago directly from philips for $800.

Image: When calibrated (thanks to avs forum calibration settings), this tv image is absolutely stunning. this set has one of the best blu-ray picture i have seen and i did compare with sony's and samsumgs's. the default settings are very bad except the power saving mode that gives a great picture but you have a install menu to set it up as you like.
Function: I have mostly everything off for movies. I don't use the 120hz function at all except when gaming. i use the dnm (natural motion for sports in hd), it works great.
Design: The design is also very nice. all in all a great buy. i wish i had a 52" or even bigger of course.
Remote: not very great cause you have to go into the menu to activate or deactivate functions. you can also set up only one personal settings , i would have like many
connectivity: more than enough hdmis.
