I bought one of these the last time Woot had them. Great little device. Small size makes it easy to keep with you. Decent quality video. No complaints. This is a great deal.

I LOVE MINE!

I nabbed one of these last time they came up on woot for 80 bucks. I take it with me everywhere I go.

I even did 3 youtube clips with it so far, the video is really great audio is great as long as you are behind the camera... And that is my ONE gripe, there is no microphone jack, the location of the mic is on the back of the camera so when facing it and speaking it does not pick up your voice as well as being behind the camera.

I intended to play the classical guitar/sing songs and put them on youtube but alas, you can't hear my voice very well unless I want the camera right next to me giving enough room for my torso only.

Having said that, GET ONE. Got one? GET ANOTHER!

You can see the video I shot on YOUTUBE, search for "Subfightr" in Youtube. Yes, that is Subfightr NOT subfighter.

I shot 2 or 3 vids at night in low light conditions in my garage and one in the daytime outside on a moving bicycle. Pretty good test for the flip I would say. And it did very well!

Check it out.

Reviewers generally agree that the Kodak Zi6, while a bit larger, is a superior product. I don't own either, so why am I posting? Dunno. Anyways, Bestbuy has a new Zi6 on sale for $99 with free shipping - sorry woot.

I bought this the last time around, and recently the sound recording capability failed. It is definitely a hardware problem, because I don't get sound even when I play back directly from the device, as well as when I play the file on a PC. Out of warranty of course.

When they work they are very convenient and easy to use. My wife loves it so I'm getting her a new one, HD, not r e f u r b e d.

I bought one for my daughter for this coming Christmas. She loves making video on her Olympus camera, but it does not have sound.
This will make her very happy.

These are great for recording your kids! They turn on so quick that you actually capture what they are doing in time. I keep mine in my pocket and throughout the day whip it out for instant recording. In fact I've already recorded 3 videos of the kids today ;-)

Wondering what is the longest amount of video you can record at one time. I tried a competitor's and it recorded in 10 second sections.

Buy an HD and disregard this Woot. That's the choice you have, open your wallet and pay full price.

You clearly don't know sqaut about these, nor what the word "refurb" means.

Thumbs up to that brother!

Good point, BUT not everybody had a fancy camera on their phone that can match the flip's quality.

For some reason my RAZR only lets me record 15 seconds and then I have to start a new clip.

With the flip i can record up to 30 min. (that's how much room my flip has).

RelockLabs wrote:ah, i found an answer to my own question..

The .avi format is supported for direct import into Avid. Have you tried it

Actually, once you have it as mp4, that will import directly into Avid - no other conversion should be necessary

dont confuse people, avid is the industry standard. Since it seems Flip IS compatible, the possibilities for shots is exponentially expanded

Industry standard...for now.

I use AVID at school and it's the biggest pain in the neck.

I prefer premier (pc) or final cut express (mac).

Just like Pro Tools (also an AVID product), all of these editing programs will become the same thing and there won't be 1 standard (which is how it should be).

Not trying to confuse, just having a good laugh at ADIV's expense lol!

MichaelSF wrote:I wonder why some people are on Woot. No matter the Woot people say moronic things like "Oh, it's not HD, oh there's no optical zoom, oh it's a refurb, oh it's ...."

Sheesh... the thing is $70 video camera. You want to act like Coppola wannabe, go buy a $1000 prosumer camcorder.

You want new, and not a refurb, go somewhere else and buy new. Your comments don't mean squat on Woot when saying, for the 10th time in a night, "Oh it's a refurb, oh my, that leaps into the vacuum, I don't buy refurbs, I am logging off Woot. I only buy HD camcorders. I was on here looking for a new HD camcorder, for $50 or less. Your bad Woot."

Anyway, for the rest of you who know value and are willing to take the word of us who have actually used the product offered by Woot:

I have been using Flip camcorders for the past 18 months or so. I have used the Ultra and the MINO. Both have worked perfect.

I was hoping they would offer a MINO because I like the way it operates. It takes excellent videos and a charge of the battery last way beyond one full use of the 60 minutes. One charge lasts about three full uses (60 min. each).

I paid $150 for my MINO back in the day, so this is a good deal. I use one on my road bike and the other in my car. Both use the metal tripod mount on the MINO.

Some of you have seen my YouTube videos before when I post them in here.

Here they are again:

At night, in car. Make sure to press "HQ" to see the quality:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JisQkpwxE1Y

In this one, riding into the sun, this MINO works really well in direct sunlight. But what it does is turn the sun into a black dot. Which is fine because it still takes good video when facing the sun. My other cameras can't do that:

How does a camera with "poor sound" "low-quality recordings" and "inadequate features"

Ouch. When I bought the $35 one from sellout woot, I ended up buying the year warranty from square trade just in case.

I mean, if this thing dies, I won't be crushed because it was $35. The main reason I bought it for $35 was to see if I'd ever wanna spend $130-$180 on an upgraded version.
I must say, there's a good chance I'll be upgrading in the future once I get full usage out of my current flip.

Someone paid them to give it 4.5.

but for real, this is a 4.5 product.

it's not for serious recording.

more for sporadic/out of nowhere recording.

youtube-ish stuff.

Now i'm not saying you can't use it for special memories, but i'm just an old-fashioned guy that grabs his prosumer cam for important stuff.

When you buy a refurb, it is really a crapshoot. I bought a Flip refurb on Woot for myself - works great and I love it. I bought another a few Woots back and gave it to my daughter as a gift. What an embarrassment - I don't think the original problem was ever fixed and Flip customer service is not the best.

So, buy it for yourself and take your chances, but don't give it as a gift.

I'll agree with that.

I only buy refurb stuff for myself.

If it's for someone else, I'll go new (if that's in my budget).

I have a Mino (that's what this one is) that I bought new at Sam's that I LOVE. Then I bought an Ultra from Woot that was refurbished (as is this one). I hate the Ultra. Very sluggish and unresponsive when the red "record" button is pushed. Need to sometimes push it three or four times for it to register.

Don't know if the contrast is because of Mino vs. Ultra or New vs. Refurbished. Either way, even though I'm in the market for another Mino (that's how much I love it), I'm not sure I'll bite on this -- might just pay almost double for a new one. Still deciding.

I woke up this morning thinking: "I should've grabbed a flip off woot last time they were on" and went to amazon to browse for one. Imagine my surprise when woot had them today.

I'm tempted to jump on this, but worried about shipping time. I need it for an event this Friday and woot isn't really known for great shipping. I see no smartpost icon, but still...

Bought one last time they were offered - love it to death. Not the greatest video quality in the world, but for ease of use, the Flip can't be beat.

I use mine to record stuff I'm going to put on YouTube, and the included software works like a champ - makes it SO easy.

I mostly record live local bands, and for what it's worth, other camcorders tend to overload (distort) on the audio when the music is loud - the Flip does MUCH better with loud volumes.
