I paid full price for this set back in 2005. They're worth every penny. Great feature set. I especially like the intercom and room monitor functions. When my son was an infant we'd drop a handset in the car as a baby monitor when he had fallen asleep on the way home from the store. I use it with Vonage currently and the handset message alert blinky light is compatible with the voice mail system. Great sound quality and great range.

I bought these through woot a few years back (july 2006 actually), though it had two additional handsets rather than just one.

battery on the handset we used on our main line is just first dying now. I use it with vonage and have no problems.

Might get these to expand the system/serve as back-ups considering the price.

I have the handset/base/answering unit and 7 additional "remote" handsets.

I'm "in for two" to use for additional handset locations, for spare batteries, replacement base, if needed...

Love these phones.

Does anyone know if the based can be mounted on the wall?

USBmicro

I do have a question, though, for anyone else that already uses these phones.

When I ring from one handset to another (to do an intercom), my handset is also making the ringing sound. And it isn't quiet.

Is it this way for others? Is there a setting that stops this?

Perhaps this was a base/handset firmware feature that was fixed?

If anyone has the same problem and has or hasn't fixed it, please let me know. Or if you have these phones and DON'T have handset 'A' ring loudly when you intercom to handset 'B', please also let me know. This is the only feature that I don't like about the phone. (I would love it if there was a setting to fix this.)

Yes. It mounts in the same way as other wall-mount phones.

I've had this set for a few years, and I just recently replaced the batteries. The range is great! I can walk around my block and only lose signal when I'm completely on the other side of the block. I take it with me to my neighbor's houses and never have a problem answering a call. I also have a similar set for my Packet8 VOIP line. No problems. Uniden makes great phones.

Does this have a mute function? Particularly on the base? Looking at the pictures, I don't see a mute button, but on one of my phones the mute button actually shows up in the CID display once you're on a call. Thanks!

I bought these in May off Woot they lasted till July. I didn't think anything was made that badly. The worst part however is the customer service. It took longer to get the phones replaced than they actually worked. I could never say anything positive about Uniden

Same annoying issue on the 2-line version (model TRU8866) that I've used for the past 5 years.

Overall it's a near-perfect set of phones. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the intercom behavior is odd...I will be thrilled, though, if someone shares a solution!

I bought these three years ago and my set are still running strong on the original batteries.

Audio quality is excellent. Range is typical. I have a 1300 ft^2 single story concrete block house. Indoor coverage is good. I can only go outside another 5 to 10 feet. Of course range varies depending on placement of the base, obstacles, etc etc.

You can use more than one handset simultaneously, but as far as I can tell the base does not support multiple-line operation.

The automatic answering system is excellent. I really like that you can easily retrieve messages using the handsets. I hardly ever retrieve messages on the base.

We have used the DirectLink "walkie-talkie" mode a couple times (handsets can communicate with each other independent of the base). It has enough range to talk between cars driving down the interstate (about 4 or 5 car lengths), but they do not have enough range to replace FRS/GMRS radios.

The only real con, in my opinion, is the base does not wall-mount well. It comes with a wall-mount adapter, but the base stays horizontally oriented and sticks out from the wall a bit. Placing the base at the typical height makes accessing it a bit awkward. The handset charger base(s) do not come with wall-mount kits.

It's a krap! We cannot repel bags of this magnitude!

ClancyO wrote:Decent phones - I used them for almost 4 years. Bought the original set of 2 at a big box store and then scored 4 more from woot. After 3-4 years of constant discharging (my wife is incapable of locating a phone charger - hence the need for 6 phones in the house) the batteries finally gave up. I still have them and will give the handsets away free - all you have to do is replace the batteries. I found it cheaper to buy a new set (also uniden, new frequancy, from Costco - but with a corded handset to boot).

My batteries lasted about 3-4 years as well. I bought cheap Chinese replacement batteries on the internet (half the price of the Uniden replacements) and they are working great.

I have the version without the answering machine since I use voicemail. Had it for 5+ years and I just replaced the battery packs. The phones work great.

If you have a new voicemail, the little light in the corner flashes. It doesn't beep, so you have to look to see if you have new vmail.

Mine came with belt clips for each handset and the speakerphone on each works well. you can also program specific incomming phone numbers to have a different ringtone.

Very nice features! Highly recommended especially for $20!

I have a slightly older, single-model of one of these - no answering machine. Had it for about four years connected to a Vonage account. Use it as a catch-all for unimportant calls (we primarily use our cell phones).

Battery life is still good and the speakerphone is very good. Can stand it up on the desk for the speakerphone and it works well.

Not sure about getting another set of these - $20 is a good price but just don't know if I could use it. Maybe a replacement...

There is a feature to find the phone from the base - a button gets the handset ot start beeping so you can find it.

I have two wi-fi access points at home and my phone doesn't interfere with either, and vice versa.

Neat little collection of ring tones and ring tunes.

Yes. The button functions change depending on the operation. During a call one of them changes to "mute".

It has a handset-to-handset intercom feature which I have used to locate missing handsets. The only problem is both handsets ring in unison, so you need to muffle the one you're holding.

Uniden phones do not detect rings on POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service)!!!

I bought the last set that came through Woot, they can't handle normal ringing voltage of 90v @ 20hz (like from the old-timey telco office). These are great if you have voip (I've connected them to a Zoom Skype box where they work fine.)

aaelghat wrote:Does anyone know if the handsets support 2-line operation? I know the base does not, but I'd actually buy this just to get replacement handsets for my existing Uniden 2-line system.

In my 2-line Uniden cordless system, my handsets look EXACTLY like the ones in the picture. I'm wondering if the handsets are 2-line capable, but they are crippled with the base unit.

Is there a model number just for the handset so I can look this up?

I also have the 2-line system that came with two handset models TCX805 and TCX860. The only difference between the two is the color scheme. You can find the user manuals at Uniden's website.

I no longer have 2 lines and this is the perfect means for me to trade in the 2-line base without answering machine for a single-line base with answering machine. The handsets can be de-registered from the existing base and re-registered with the new one. The handset is smart enough to customize the menu for the base. So I expect the line2 option to disappear. I just hope the phonebook is not cleared.

My wife dropped one handset and damaged the LCD. So this is the perfect upgrade without any missing chargers!

There is a "flash/find handset" button on the base. But it causes all handsets to beep. Don't know if it's better than the intercom ringing both phones though.

You don't need to plug both bases into the phone line. The second base (not connected to the phone line) would just act as a charger for that handset.

Where did you buy extra handsets? I have a Uniden system with 3 handsets and I bought one handset from someone who also bought a system with three but only needed two... but I can't find extra handsets anywhere (and I've written directly to Uniden a couple times and gotten no response).

Completely agree! I paid over $100 for this phone 4-5 years ago. At $19 I'd be all over it, but we upgraded to the newer Uniden that was on Woot! a while back since we had lost a couple handsets to bathtub and swimming pool incidents.

Over the years I went through all sorts of cordless phones that ranged from barely adequate to horrible. I bought this exact unit 4-5 years ago and have nothing but positive things to say: the range, the sound quality, the durability are all excellent.

Recently had to replace a handset battery (about $12 for an Energizer on eBay). That's it.

This is a very good deal.

I have this exact model and yes, there is a mute button that can be set on the base and the handset while in a call.

I'm thinking about getting another set since the batteries in ours are going south. It's almost cheaper to buy this than to get new batteries.
