Approx...give or take a quarter inch.

So silly, in fact, that I actually believe those charts that show crashing rates of cavities after the introduction of fluoride!

Applying a fluoride paste to your teeth and brushing them for 5 minutes a day prevents tooth decay. Drinking water or briefly swishing water with a tiny amount of fluoride does nothing. This would seem to be common sense. I have no idea why we continue to put this stuff in water.

Yeah, you'll also notice that this is exactly when they started putting fluoride in toothpaste. These statistics you are pointing to are ridiculous.

Try and see if your faucet can unscrew off. Usually you take off the piece on the bottom and the adapter replaces that piece.

Anyone know about filtering pharmaceuticals? I'm guessing this doesn't, but there's probably not a lot that do.

That's my biggest concern with municipal water these days, who knows how much antidepressants or hormone replacement therapy I am ingesting. Well, actually, I do since I read my water quality report, and the answer is: some.

I would love to just be proven paranoid, and know that this is insignificant quantities. As it stands, I feel like this is an issue that will be given more attention in the future.

Good question. After all, fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face. I can longer sit back and allow them to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. I'm going to get a couple of these pitchers.

Now come here and feed me this belt, boy.

True.. but you can't escape fluoride because all water on this Earth has fluoride in it. Granted city water supplies probably have 100 times more fluoride than Natural Spring Water. But really no water on this earth is pure from Fluoride.. Unless you distill it or use Osmosis.

Sorry, but your example is moot because the concentrations involved are far beyond what is used in current water fluoridation.

Additionally, you should read the full article you posted in the first place (howstuffworks link). According to the article, the issue with fluoridation is potential overdose due to either excessive fluoridation of the water(less common), or over consumption of fluorine along with other sources(IE eating toothpaste, particularly with kids).

It's gotta be 3 months like all of them because it's a bacterial issue, not a capacity issue.

Probably because it's supported by a sizable portion of the medical community.

"Organizations like the U.S. Public Health Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Cancer Institute, the International Dental Federation and the World Health Organization all believe that water fluoridation is a health benefit. In 1999, the CDC actually named water fluoridation on the top 10 list of 20th century health achievements."

(Thanks to bplinson's comment for the link:
http://health.howstuffworks.com/fluoride-poisoning1.htm )

As for putting it in the water, it's because it's a way to help improve the quality of life for a large community at a low cost (provided the infrastructure already exists; this is why I mentioned living overseas). Topical application is not the only way fluoride helps your teeth. Ingestion is indeed another way; there are dietary supplements of fluoride for people who aren't getting enough.

Honestly, just *don't eat toothpaste* if you want to avoid excessive levels of fluoride.

Think it through.....You cannot just fill it from the top (that hole you think is fillable is where the filter goes). If you want cold water, you have to stand at the faucet where you had to attach a short hose and wait for it to fill. 34 seconds from empty is a long time, 15 seconds to top it off after every time you have a couple glasses is a pain. Then you still have to put it in the fridge to chill where the hose dangles and drips a little on your other food.

There is a reason for every thing woot sells. Now think "why?"

amnewsboy wrote:So, how much are the replacement filters, and is this better than the Brita pitcher I already have?

I have a Brita, too.....and I think the water tastes great using a Brita. BUT, now that I've done some research comparing the two water pitchers, the Clear2O most definitely filters the water better. Brita states that it reduces Cadmium, Mercury, Copper and the taste/odor of Chlorine. That's a very short list compared to the Clear2O.

I'm definitely making the switch. Btw, (if memory serves me right) each Brita filter usually runs me between $3.50 - $4.50 when I buy a pack of 10 at Costco. Although the Clear2O obviously costs more to maintain ($5-$8 per filter depending on the website), I'm figuring it will be better tasting water and getting way more junk out of my drink.....that is soooo worth it to me!

p.s. As other posters stated, it looks like you can get great deals on the Clear2O filters when buying thru eBay! Maintenance may not cost much more than the Brita after all! Yay!

if it is a bacterial issue, the loose carbon filter material used by the others should present more surface area for bacteria to grow on than the solid carbon filter this thing uses would, so the three-month period might not be applicable.

just sayin'...

Why does it only come with 2 faucet adapters? And this being a 2-pack, does that mean 1 additional adapter per pitcher?

In the you tube vid, it shows 3 different adapters for that single pitcher.

Just saying.

They fit two different size faucet ends. You have to remove the aerator to put this on your kitchen sink, and that's no good. Another problem is that if you turn the water on too high, some seeps around the filter and drips down the inside front where the spout is. Yet another problem is that there are many pieces and over time mold or something can grow in the nooks and crannies, like the crack where the top piece fits against the pitcher. You can wash out the pitcher periodically but I'm sure there's a healthy biofilm growing in the hose :/ I still use mine anyway, they have official numbers that show this filters out a lot more than the two leading brands.
