No, a Korean government agency has warned about it. The media reports "death by fan". Read the wikipedia article. It's sourced. Been watching it for YEARS.

These are simply the best fans made. I dont own this exact model, but a very similar one. I loved it so much I bought two of them. As I write this I have one on. These fans can be used in many ways, but my favorite is to point them upward toward the ceiling to create a circulating effect. It is so effective that it almost feels like the air conditioner is on. You cant go wrong with these fans.

All fans of this type are very good. The differences between them are size, efficiency, and volumetric flow rate (how much air per minute).

I personally own three: a Patton, a Lakewood, and a Honeywell. The Honeywell is basically the same fan with a different logo and is well worth the price.

A Lakewood is more durable and has a slightly better flow rate and efficiency, but is much more expensive (mine was free though).

If you really want to go for the best, spend $60-90 on a commercial Patton. They are very efficient, move the most air for the price, and are guaranteed for life. The only downsides are that they are bulky, somewhat loud, and tend to move around if they aren't on a stable, non-smooth surface.

Woot! Get some Patton's!!

I don't know. I just asked my buddy Bong (cool name right?) who was born and raised in Korea, and that's what he told me: urban legend. Maybe he's just a one of the rogue non-believers.

I own a previous version of this fan. It is by far the best fan I have ever owned. I suggest evveryone get one. Its powerful and not very noisy at a low setting. I might get another because black is sexier ;-)

Just a great little fan. I keep one of these in my office and when I stay late and the AC shuts off, it provides more than adequate airflow.

Worth every penny, and then some.

i've been eyeing these gol-danged fans since i joined back in 05. and i'm proud to say i've finally bought one.
Woot!

I bought the last vornado fan, the one that is displayed slightly greyed out. I have had it running I'd say close to 4/5 of the time since the purchase and the fan is starting to make some grinding noise at startup until the unit warms to "operating temperature". I'm a bit concerned about how much longer it's going to last.

Just a note.

Otherwise? These fans are absolutely amazing! Totally silent when you want them to be while still moving tons of air across a room with precise aim and spot-hitting ability. When on high? Totally amazing air movement. Can circulate a rooms air in a minute.

I have this exact model already, and just bought 2 more here. This is without exception THE BEST fan I've ever owned, including other Vornados I've owned before.

For the engineering types: This is a brushless fan. The core is a split part cylinder that rotates the blades, the electronics inside are solid state and beefy. The axle lube will last you 6 or 7 years of constant use, and if it wears down you can spray some silicon in or re-apply and it's like new again.

You will NOT regret buying this fan if you use a fan to move air around, be it in your house, or into/out of your house via a window.

When is the last time that anyone bought a fan that needed oil added to the motor? Maybe a good fan but that is a ridiculous thing to have in the specs.

Vornado's are awesome! I use the one Woot had earlier this year at work all the time.

I stay cooler, and the other guys in the room don't complain about me turning down the AC =p

is this comporable to the equivelant Honeywell fans? seriously I've had 2 of those (one for the office one for home) that have benn running nonstop for 3 years no problems, if these are even remotely close in quality im sold, if not you can get honeywells off amazon for 12-20$ usually and they last forever!

I bought the 2 speed Vornado clip fan in May, and love it so much that I just bought 3 more of this 3 speed version. We need serious air-movers down here in the swamps of New Orleans.

I don't know about these specifically, but I've owned a fan from this brand for over a decade. My parents gave me it and they had it for a while too.

Durability: A+

Yup, I second that! Bought a 9" from woot on a stand it's great and have two 13" floor models running 6 months a year for over 7 years. Fan-frickin tastic!

Bought 2 last time and they are great. 1 turns my furnace of an office into a pleasant working experience and the other is at home and it took the place of my box fan and moves air much faster and more efficient. if i needed more i would buy this one.

I had a very similar Vornado fan (might have been the same model) for ten years, and it ran 24/7 for about 9 months out of every year. I finally got rid of it after I dropped a television on it and broke the base. The fan was still going, though.

Wow, I wonder if i'm now a Vornado collector since I have 8 of them (including this purchase). What a bizarre addiction. lol...

I personally like the variable control unit the best even though they run $100+, but hey its a Vornado.

Based on these reviews, it should have been able to levitate it.

This is the perfect gift for your mother...if she's going through, or nearing, menopause.

Otherwise, you l a m e - a s s dweebs...try harder today (Saturday, in case you're too drunk to notice)...go forth with more confidence! Real women like the men who listen. Actually listen.

So I'm told, all too often.

I've been married for 20 years, and if he had his way it would be longer, but I had to be sure. I'm rather careful.

You won't during this w00t-off. They're WAY screwed up. Try on Monday or Tuesday...see if they've fixed it by then.

Before I go to bed, let me elaborate:

The tiny boxes next to our online names? Usually if you move your cursor over them it will tell you approximately how many purchases we've made. As an example: my little square is usually black, which means I've made more than 25 purchases. Don't worry, you'll get there sooner than you think.

As for the quality post...that is totally at the discretion of the mod at the time, as far as I can discern. For example: I've personally bought many products from w00t, but I'm no longer allowed to have quality posts because of one incident (not my problem) with one employee (again, not my fault) who hacked my account. Be thankful this w00t-off s u c k s for you.
