Lost me at "the remote pager does not display the temperature but only the time"....I don't need a watch, I need a BBQ remote that tells the temp. watching the films?

I actually got one of these from walmart $20, it's pretty spiffy but I just got so I haven't had any problems yet.

Is there a manufacturer's warranty on this item?

Yes, these are separate (sister) sites, separate shipping setups. Each product has its own shipping charges, just as purchases of different items from woot.com during a woot-off will incur separate shipping charges for each different item.

That said, it's still a bargain!

wootchawant wrote:i highly doubt this would meet your needs--the probe wouldn't be able to gauge the air accurately, and if you leave it on metal, the readings won't be accurate for your food.

my oven is also fairly old, and i bought a little metal thermometer with a hook that lets me hang it on the rack/grid from a local "dollar store." if your oven has a window, you can just display this type of thermometer where you can see it. good luck!

The problem I noticed with using this in the oven is that the maximum temperature for the device is 392 F. I don't know about you, but I bake a lot at 400 to 450.

Long time viewer... First time Wooter

Ha Ha ! Christmas presents for all my grilling family members.

Only drawback is that I could only order 3... which leaves me standing out on the porch checking on the grill this winter while all 3 of my siblings can stand inside the door, looking out the window at the steaming grill.

sigh...

Great deal fro when you have a large party and cannot man the grill 100% of the time. Keeps you from screwing the pooch. In for 1.

I use a remote thermometer to smoke pork shoulders for pulled pork. It takes 12-18 hrs and I am a REAL man. In for three.

I plan on using mine to get my coffee temp exactly right. According to Alton Brown the right temp for a French Press is 190F. I use a thermometer stuck through the tea kettle opening but then get busy and forget to keep a close eye on it. This should solve the problem. Also I BBQ several times a week.

Why would you need three of these things if you already know it takes 12 - 18 hours to cook the pork?

spitfire8898 wrote:Thinking of getting one to use when I brew a batch of beer in my turkey fryer...can anyone think of why this would not work? It's stainless, so it could be washed afterwards right?

Are you mashing grain or just boiling wort?

If you're boiling, you don't need a thermometer at all. Just maintain a steady rolling boil.

If you are mashing your own grain, and not doing an extract recipe, or mashing adjunct grains for a partial extract recipe, this should work.

But, if you're mashing at all, you would want to keep an eye on temps. A direct reading thermometer, or one that actually shows temps on the remote would be better.

Also, I'd be worried about getting the wires wet. Just my weirdnesses.

I doubt it as the lids on pressure cookers seal tightly and would pinch the sensor wire...

Would be better to have the temp on the remote unit, but for this price, what the heck, in for one.

I got one from Death and Beyond for about $25. The remote DOES show the temp, so I can go take a nap or wander around the house or sit and read a book, and still see how close I am to done.

These work great! I leave the probe in while the roast is resting so it doesn't get too done.

Well worth the money to get one! Especially with an older oven that may not heat evenly or may have an incorrect thermostat. No under done roast for me!

Because that's six hours of wiggle room.

Go to a professional BBQ contest sometime. You can probably count the number of entrants NOT using a thermometer with mittens on.

Maybe yours shows the temp on the remote, but judging by the photo, you would need to use a sharpie to have the temp on the remote unit, and it appears kinda small so, after a few times, it would be really hard to write the temp.....

Mine arrived yesterday. I used it on a small pork roast today and it worked fine. I feel a little lost because I don't see the probe temperature on the remote as in the higher level ones I have used before, but the thermometer works fine. I bought one for me, one as a gift and a third one as a spare.

These things are terrific for folks who smoke roasts.

Bought this. Took it out of the box to use. Got an HH error that indicated that the probe was either not inserted all the way or was defective. Reinserted it several times - still got the same error. Emailed WOOT. Woot told me to contact Chaney Instruments for warranty support/repair. Called 3 times and left messages - they said they will call back in 48 business hours; sent email 4 days ago - no response.... This is my last WOOT purchase. Trying to continue to contact the company is not worth my time... and since the seller (Woot) took the easy way out - I consider them part of the problem - not part of the solution. MAJ R. I have used this thermometer twice. Seemed to work great the first time. During the second time it jumped from 100F to 180F in seconds and just stuck at 180F. I've changed batteries but the thing reads 180F all the time. I would not recommend this product.

Mine did the exact same thing, except that it's stuck at 137 after the first use. It will fluctuate from there, but it's never accurate anymore. It says 137 when my other thermometers say 78. It's a shame too because it worked well for the first use. I brewed a batch of beer and didn't have to sit by the pot to wait for the sparge water to hit 170. Have you found out what to do about this?
