Price is not the woot price we are used to, this tv is cheaper on ebay at 149.99 with free shipping.

If this was like 119.99, it would be worth the buy, considering tv's are obsolete so fast, and this is a 720p HDTV.

I don't understand why someone would go and buy a "TV" instead of a nice widescreen monitor.
It looks great when hooked up to my hdmi hi def cable channels.

Cheaper too!

They'd probably get a "TV" for their kitchen or kids room because the cable box they connect to doesn't have a HDMI output, just composite/component connectors, or cable output.

Well, the TV's overheating video processing chip flaw is bad enough, but does anybody else think the lack of an s-video input is a problem?

Hmmm...debating on which is a better purchase....this TV + 2-yr Squaretrade Warranty for ~ 149.99 + 5$ shipping + $ 20.99 for warranty = 175.98

or a Brand New Toshiba 19AV600U @ Buydig.com for $ 194.95 w free shipping......anyone know the warranty on Toshiba products?? Their 19" gets good reviews...

Anyone know if you can get cable channels via RF coax AND still get the OTA HD channels? Perhaps 2 different inputs? Thinking of using this in the kitchen.

All I can say is I bought a Philips LCD HDTV and will never do it again. I did not research the product well and paid the price. I would find out as much as I can from people who bought this item before clicking buy.

Pablo4200 wrote:No. This has an ATSC & QAM tuner which will receive digital signals. You only need a converter if your TV only has a analog tuner, which is to say that it's really old.

To Clarify, it will receive UNENCRYPTED Digital Signals.
If your cable company (like mine) encrypts almost everything, you will get maybe 20-30 Digital channels through the tuner without a cable box.
They are required by law to have certain stations unencrypted.

I have a standalone digital tuner and it gets about 20-30 channels out of however many our cable provider feeds.

On our main TV we have to have the cable box to get everything (i.e. to unencrypt it), even though the TV has a digtal tuner in it (which is just cancellation because I believe the cable box is also a digital to analog converter...which makes the digital tuner in the TV pointless).

Refurb does not equal bad.

I've found the same. I've had quite good luck with refurbs in the case that the original product was good in general - usually, you replace the bad part, and it's good to go again. Heck, the refurbs probably get tested more thoroughly than the original ones did before they got boxed up.

Of course, I don't think testing will do much to help the problems with today's Woot, since it sounds like this model got returned a lot for bigger long term issues beyond just a bad part.

Anyone happen to notice that Colorado has a particularly high wooting rate? I guess a lot of people in Colorado really wanted to verify that conspiracy theory of the balloon boy.
And California is unusually low. There's too much scaffolding to worry about in California anyways. Nobody there cares about some storm chaser's balloon boy.

I've gotta ask what is with this whole brand thing. It's not like there's a large delta in panel quality, the tuners come and go with minor updates and iterations, really all that you choose anymore is the color and some balderah logo and marketing to go with it.

I'll admit that overheating is an issue which needed to be resolved before the product was in channel and that it was a poor decision on Philip's part to let it slide, but at the end of the day that company has real people that work there.

Some of the posts I've seen lambaste Philips as if they can barely assemble a TV, much less correct what really is a minor issue which has important consequences. Take a break and go for a walk if a small TV overheating gets you in that much of a tizzy.

ehhh, you aren't wrong but at the same time its not a good option. I used to use a spare 20 inch lcd tv as a second monitor on my desk... at low resolutions it works fine, but anything over 1024x768 it would start to scroll...

So if you want a monitor, i wouldn't use a tv, for the same price you can get a good monitor, new and bigger

I think you have a better chance this problem was already addressed buying a refurb. Could very well be the reason it was sent back in the first place.

Figure I'd add my two cents worth:

I bought this exact model new about a year ago. It was DOA as received. Philips sent me a replacement (refurbished) which worked for about three months until I experienced the now-too-familiar problem: I had to unplug the set for about a minute or two before it would power up. Philips offered to refund my purchase price (which I gratefully accepted).

My sister who lives several states away also bought the same model (new). She went through three sets (the original and two replacements). Each developed the same problem. Philips also gave her a refund.

Note that the power up problem may or may not occur within 90 days. Since we both purchased the TV's new they (and the replacements) were warranted for 1 year by Philips.

On a positive note: I found Philips customer service very helpful and friendly. Philips paid shipping charges both ways.

I'm excited to be getting this aside from what everyone says, for the price it's a nice replacement for my old 20 inch flat screen that takes up a whole table by itself. 19 inches is a lot bigger than most people think. 15 inches is commonly what I see in kitchens, 19 inches is more aimed for say a dorm room or the bedroom.

I think I'm starting to have a little buyers remorse.

Just received mine today also, I agree quite a bit of remorse, Mine the face was not fashioned on correctly and there has been something "I am assuming glue" all over the front of it, I have not even tried to turn it on yet to see if it works, I do not know if i want it with what i have already experienced.

quality posts: 13 Private Messages fatdogreggie1

I just received mine today as well however, I am pleased with it so far. Mine also had a loose part inside, but I discovered that it was a piece of plastic that had broken off one of the screw risers for the stand. I was able to knock it out by removing the stand, (which I was going to do anyway as I am wall mounting it). It seems to work just fine.

On a side note, mine also had the glue-like substance on the front. I found that it came from the foam that the unit was packed in. A little (non-ammonia based) glass cleaner and a microfiber towel took it right off. Give it a try, it may work for you also.

On a side note, mine had a slip of paper in it from OZARK ELECTRONICS INC, which I assume was the company that refurbished these units for Philips. This Final Inspection note was dated APR 14, 2009, so it looks like these have sat around for a while. Mine was inspected by someone with the initials K. T. M.

I received one yesterday and it too has a residue on the cabinet. Rubbing alcohol took some off but it's still here and still noticeable. Perhaps this is a heat sink compound from replacing the video unit? This one was also refurbed by Ozark on june 23 '09.

Even though I am (thus far) happy with this TV, I am not terribly happy with the quality control of OZARK Electronics in their refurbishing. I have now removed six small pieces of broken plastic from the base mounting area where the screw mounts were damaged during disassembly/reassembly (or possibly shipping). One of these pieces was causing a nasty vibrating sound when the volume was turned up so I have had to remove the TV from the wall to remove it.

The screen seems larger than 19" however, I believe that this is just due to the 16:10 screen rather than the more common 16:9.

Update, I did find a way to clean the cabinet. I used some Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. Meant for cars and trucks, but it pulled the residue off the plastic quite nicely when applied with a paper towel.

Mine came with the very messy "glue" substance around the frame. To me it looked like the TV was kept in shrink wrap too long. It worked for about a day and now I have the much discussed power problem where it keeps shutting off. Contacted Phillips and they are sending a replacement at their expense. I did a little research and Ozark Elec. does a lot of refurbs for Walmart. They even opened up a refurb center in AK, near Wallyworlds HQ. So chances are Woot is getting Walmart rejects.

Got mine last week, set it up used it. No issues with shutting off, but it does not power on if you turn it off. You have unplug it for five minutes and then it will turn on again.

I have that messy glue like substance or putty or whatever that is, all over the front too.

Need my serial and I will be calling them shortly.
