One issue though: there are two channels (3 and 4, no House for me today) that play awful and snowy. All others play great to excellent.

I am running Win 7 64 bit, Windows Media Center, long cable running through a splitter from a wall, Timer Warner cable @ North Texas.

I have noticed a similar symptom on the TV (older tube, pre-HDTV) that shares the splitter but to a much lesser degree; the image is actually watchable.

When removing the splitter the reception get better BUT still gives problems. Basically, how can I better the signal, if at all?

That sounds like signal deterioration happening before it reaches the tuner. Pretty common, especially if the cable is long and is getting split along the way. You should try a signal amplifier. Call Time Warner and arrange to have them provide you with one, as that's something the cable provider typically takes care of for you. If you'd rather not go through them, you can also purchase one at Radioshack, though Time Warner probably won't charge.

Thanks, I'll give them a call. I was planning on calling them anyway to cancel the DVR service, I don't need it anymore after getting this tuner. That's 13 bucks saved every month :P

ok everyone here is my one issue..

With the Catalyst Media Center I receive about 23 over the air digital channels using the provided antenna. However Catalyst doesn't have the correct over the air programming guide so its hard to schedule recordings. Media Center on Vista Ultimate only recognizes 10 Channels over the air but has the correct over air programming guide. Would like just to use media center, but it doesn't recognize all the available channels.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

well here is my experience with my first ever purchase from woot, i bought the tv tuner this month on the 4th like most of you, the package arrives at my local post office on the 14th (no worries from me yet)it says plz allow 2-3 days for delivery, 3 days go by still no package so i check the tracking, i see that it has been shipped out to austin which is obviously further away from my local post office. it says give 2-3days again for delivery, so i do. the next day i check the tracking and i see that it has been shipped even further out to coppell tx, this is when i contact woot. They tell me that the post office could not find my address so they are shipping it back to them, and when they receive it they will ship it back to me.I was completely happy with this response and i triple check my address and there were no typos in it, it was 100% correct, no reason for them not to find my address. It is now the 25th and the package is still in coppell tx, so i contact Woot asking if they knew what the delay was, they said they contacted the carrier and that they had lost the package, and they refunded my money right away, because they didnt have anymore to send me.

This was my first woot and im kinda bummed it went so bad, this is actually the first time something like this has happend and i order alot from online,But from what i cant tell, Woot did nothing wrong, and they handled the problem swiftly and had great response time on there customer service.

Thanks Woot your customer service is what is going to keep me as a customer in the future, idc that i never got my package cuz accidents do happen even though i really did want it lol, whats more important is the good customer service and the willingness to help the customer when its clearly a carrier problem.

I sent a service request to ATI and they "escalated" it and I finally received a canned reply which seemed to infer I had a problem with a video card. But it did have a long series of instructions on how to completely uninstall all the ATI software. After running all the possible uninstalls from the Control Panel, there's still stuff left. It had me go through and delete many registry entries, and then any file on my system with ATI as part of the file name.

Once my system was "clean", I copied the CD to the hard drive, and moved the CMC folder elsewhere, and ran the autorun.exe file, and that install completed OK. Then rebooted, plugged in the device and the USB drivers installed.

I then went to the CMC directory which I had moved, and ran its install which hung like others and I reported. I killed the setup programs via the task manager, and then went to MSCONFIG and set the system to diagnostic mode and rebooted. In diagnostic mode, I did the CMC install and it ran to completion. I then used MSCONFIG to go back to normal mode and rebooted.

The first time I ran Catalyst, when it searched my system, it tried to (re) install my Roxio Software. I killed Catalyst and restarted it, going immediately to "reset settings". I ran it again and went to TV and the channel scan hung. And then I ran it once more, and the channel scan worked, and finally (!) I can watch TV with the TV Wonder.

Compared to the Pinnacle USB tuner I have, the ATI with the included antenna picks up all our local stations without dropouts. The Pinnacle can't do that even with my "digital" antenna. Recording works. Guide doesn't. Scheduled recordings don't (yet).

I spent way too much time digging through the problems, but the unit does finally pick up TV stations. I wish there were other Windows programs which could also access the TV Wonder and do scheduled recordings (I don't have Windows MultiMedia).

The bottom line here is that with enough patience (and 4 decades of computer experience) it can be installed despite ATI's poor implementation of its install system.

jimgraffam wrote:No luck in completing the install. Running 32 bit XP Professional and I have narrowed the cluprit down to the Catalyst software install. It keeps hanging with two installshield windows orphaned in my tray. I cannot view the associated window no matter what I do.

I've tried the updates mentioned but they do not seem to make a difference.

Anyone else in same boat but bailed out successfully?

Look for a check box that is labeled something like "listen to this", it's where you can view the diffrent inputs for the soundcard, I had the same issue trying to hear my optical input. I hope this helps

scaffolding. It looks like that lack of clear-QAM support just became an issue. I just lost access to all but a few local channels.

GregoryLikesCheapStu

quality posts: 13 Private Messages GregoryLikesCheapStu

As it turns out my issue losing channels wasn't QAM. Comcast just started encrypting all channels beyond local. So no TBS, USA, ScyFy, ect, without ordering a DTA from them.

For anyone else affected order that here:

http://digitalnow.comcast.com/

No report on how it manages with WMC yet.

Watched some college football games on this tuner. My first time trying OTA (over the air) HDTV, and WOW. It was awesome. My friends and I kept commenting that it felt like we were on the field, that we could see the players' boogers, etc., etc. One player in particular, we noticed he had tattoos all over his upper arm, that on regular (640x480 equiv) broadcast TV would have rendered it a grayish smudge I'm sure.

We never had issues with the image hanging up, or getting bad-receptivity-snow. (We are relatively high up though, compared to the surrounding houses, and we were also using it on a Core 2 Duo laptop).

We watched it using a projector and even at a 10' wide image, it was still impressive. Better than all the sports bars around here for sure.

One lag was in the initial channel scanning - it took a while (several minutes), and the 'preview image' that it showed while scanning the channels, was very jerky. We were worried that this would be the quality of the actual TV, but thankfully it wasn't, and the actual TV came out silky smooth.

A final recommendation I would have for y'all is to buy a nice 6' or 10' USB extender. This will do three things:
- give you more room to adjust the location of the antenna (the magnet in the base is not all that powerful btw) for best signal
- take some pressure off your computer's USB port by relieving it of the weight of the USB tuner
- let you turn the USB tuner's position so that you can aim the remote at the IR port more easily

The remote is kinda cancellation, it's a bit flaky. But as someone mentioned, it's great to be able to change channels without having to shrink the screen size.

Final note: the TV image at first comes up as a smaller window-in-window - I don't remember reading it in the manual, but to full-screen it, double-click the image, or hit 'Ok' on the remote. It took us a few seconds to figure this out, so figured I'd pass it on.

GREAT buy! Only regret is not buying another couple for friends.

Would have really liked to receive this item. However, USPS lost it. According to the tracking information, it was in my city twice before it was sent back to woot!.

Might want to use something other than SmartPost guys. It may go out FedEx, but the USPS gets a chance to screw up the shipping in the middle.

Thanks for the refund! I would have rather had the product.

The antenna that's suppose to come with it is garbage. It picks up nothing for me. Definitely dollar store quality. I'd suggest buying a real antenna. Check out AntennaWeb to learn about the different types available and what would server you best.

Finally got and installed this card. I don't have a cable subscription, and was just wanting it for the free OTA stuff. However, it looks like I'm only getting clearQAM ota, and no regular atsc OTA. What do I need to do in WMC (windows 7) to get more than the 4 clearqam channels? The cable is going into the digital input.

Well, I installed the software & scanned for channels & its working great so far. I'm watching the hawks game on WGN right now. The number/channels are not correctly named, but you can change that. I did noticed the feed is a few seconds faster than my direcTV on the same channel. I like how windows media center looks, so I'll configure that with this later. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

Edit: My remote isn't working though. Looks like I need to do some reading in the forums here or could just be a dead battery. We shall see.

For what it's worth, my ATI TV Wonder stick 600 HD was playing fine over my lap speakers, but would not work with the digital sound playback device which sends sound thru my HDMI cable. All other sound played by WMC came through except the audio stream played by the ATI stick hardware (tuner and file playback). When I switched off the device setting "allow appllications to take exclusive control of this device," all was well on my SONY widescreen. My guess is the ATI behaves fussy working with some sound devices.

Uhh, this product was sold over a year and a half ago. If you never received it, you probably should have taken that up with customer service at least a year and five months ago?

Are you sure you're on the right product thread?

Anybody know where I can get a replacement antenna? Not the stubby little plastic encased thing they supply with the product now, but the original telescopic antenna?

By the way, this thing works great in central Florida. Picking up around 20 channels consistently.

Using Windows XP Professional as my operating system, I know that this tuner does not work with the Windows 7; however, I am very pleased with this product.
Went to Essex to get me a digital tuner for $10 and then I hooked up the ATI TV Wonder and I can't complain one bit about the reception. I have HDTV on my computer. Around 20+ stations and all are clear in A/V.
Thanks ATI
