a 17" laptop does indeed fit on a lap... i am 5'1 and it works for me. might not be the best though if you're not tall like me.

That's kind of expensive for a refurb. You can get a new one for around that price these days.

$10 is $10, and I doubt they offer $5 shipping...nor the thrill of buying from woot ;)

I find that HP is the best affordable brand for laptops. I repair computers for side cash and I never have people bring in HP's with hardware issues.

I have a similar HP, a Dv7 1245. Very nice machine. I paid about 550 for mine. I would recommend using it with a cooling pad because they run warm

I have the 15" model of this laptop and I LOVE it. It is an amazing laptop, really fast, plenty of space, great screen. The only thing I would criticize is the disk drive. It is really, really loud when the laptop is turned on.

The free Windows 7 upgrade makes it well worth buying!

It has ups and downs... Vista is a down, upgrade to 7 and Blu-ray are ups... Overall I think its a good deal.

I have the older version of this laptop (using it now) and it occasionally suffers from overheating.

When it gets too hot, its got a failsafe that just powers off the computer without any kind of warning.

how many RAM slots does it have? can you upgrade it without getting rid of the old RAM, in case anyone ever needed more than 4gb's of RAM.

How is this for on-line gaming. my son is addicted to online gaming, and i'm wondering if this might be OK.

I do believe I posted this last time this particular laptop was up for sale, but just in case new folks are wooting:

I own this laptop, and by and large, am happy with it. It does what I need it to do (internet and office, the occasional DVD, no gaming) and it does it well. I do have two complaints:
1) It came loaded to the gills with bloatware. A format was tried, but didn't work out as I couldn't find all the drivers I needed. After a restore, I did get most of the bloat off, but it took a while and there's still some of it lurking around.
2) It has problems playing video fullscreen through online flash players (tried on Hulu and YouTube). It'll play, but it's just stuttery enough to be really distracting. I never managed to fix this and figure the vid card just can't hack it.

Why should be buy something else after you shipped a lot of beat-up defective junk, and the manufacturer wants as much to honor the warranty as we paid to begin with?

Worthless without OS X. I wish Apple would license it. I guess if that happened, we'd never be able to get a quality computer made ever again.

Basically, don't expect to play new titles with any decent performance, but it works well for video playback and older games.

That is a different model, less memory, no blue ray, hence the price difference
