Good reviews on Amazon, they have a refurb on there for $899.99 and a new one for $1200. Woot has a great deal here.

In comparison from this computer to the computer I have now, I will tell you how this is an amazing deal.

I have an HP dv5t. I got it in last New Year's super sale on the HP website for $400. I spent $750 in total upgrading the graphics card, processor and a few other things. It has a 250GB Harddrive, 3 gigs of RAM, a 2.0ghz processor and an amazing graphics card that I couldn't name off the top of my head.

This computer woot is selling has double the harddrive space, an extra gig of RAM, .2ghz more on the processor, a slightly less amazing graphics card (but still better than almost all are using now), and a bluray player, for $120 LESS than my computer.

Worth it? Yes.
Am I jealous? Yes. But I do love my graphics card <3

Personally, I prefer not to run AMD in a laptop. Laptops run plenty hot enought and the AMD's aren't the coolest processors in town.

In a desktop they are fine, where you can add extra fans or put on better cooling.

The Bluray is a nice touch though. If you were travelling alot, would be nice to have HD playback on the Hotel TV's

I have this exact same laptop... I got it at the November 7 Wal-Mart sale... They sold it to me for $298 even though the box said 848 and it rang up as $848. Such a steal! And the laptop is badass. It has HDMI output that runs sound and video to your receiver/TV in 1080p, and a remote control to control the media center!! Definitely an entertainment laptop!

Really? Because I see a new one of these on Amazon right now for $1200 (they also have a refurb for $899 on there). Yes, you can get a carpy laptop with much lower performance and no hdmi, blu-ray, etc. for much less or you can get one that's really good (this one) for this discounted price.

I can get a Yugo for $200 but I'd rather have a 370z for more.

With 512mb dedicated video memory do not expect to play blu-ray discs in BLU-RAY quality. yes you may get HD quality, but not blu-ray, this card just isn't strong enough. You can try, but you are going to get lags about every 7-9 minutes as the processor tries to cooldown and the memory resets.

So it is boughten.... So it must be paid off with a second job!

I own a Hp zd7000a model purchased in 2003. HP fell under a class action suit because the graphic processor would over heat and my mother board was replaced. Within months the power jack developed a short and it could no longer be charged. I opened her up and soldered the connection only to have the screen go bad 2 months later.

I also own a Hp z1000 model that was purchased in 2006. The laptop has developed a short on the motherboard that will not let the motherboard start the fans up causing the CPU to over heat and to protect itself the laptop will shut off. Average time until power off is 15 min. There is a pending class action suit for this and 2 other defects on this model.

I need a new laptop, but I will never own a China made HP again unless it comes with a lifetime warranty.

I find that negative post like this that are factual will eventually consume a company like HP and either force change or a buy out. My mission here is not to start an argument but to inform people of my mistakes to give them ample warning before making a decision.

The LAST place is because of the processor/hardrive combos that HP loves to use. They use LAST place procs/HDD. 5400rpm is slowest on the market, and its 500gb, soooo many places for folders to hide. The proc at 2.20Ghz is a dual core for your dual core enabled high def playback (forgot dual core gaming, almost non-existent as of today). Most dual cores are 2.26Ghz on competitive notebooks.

But guys, with all my 3 of my comments, this notebook is for <700 bucks..... sweet deal. its not the best, but for the run of the mill tween on myspace/facebook or occasional photoshop editing it will perform well while putting out some HD quality images. NOT Blu-ray like I earlier addressed without an upgrade, but HD quality FOR SURE, and so far that is better than my directv!

Make a great woot! bargain christmas gift that we have all come to know and love.

Thanks Woot! I wanted to pop my white box on the B.O.C but this will have to do.

So it is boughten.... So it must be paid off with a second job!

The PS3 had 256MB video, 256MB main. It plays Blu-Rays just fine. This one probably won't play BD-Video very well if you're running other stuff, but if you're just watching a full-screen movie, I think it'll do fine.

To correlate with the other complaints above.

Keep in mind these recent stats from square trade:

http://blog.laptopmag.com/laptop-fail-happens-to-20-30-of-notebooks-over-3-years-hps-more-than-anyone-else

Out of warranties purchased, HPs had the highest fail rate.

In my running into with HP laptops, I see them run VERY hot idle. And if left unchecked usually results in a fried motherboard. The fans do not pull much air over it. Honestly, if you keep a check on it, and get an under fan. I think you will be ok. But it is a DEFINITE issue. Buyer Beware.

That is funny cuz within seconds i found this link of an HP user problem

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=230845

and if you explore the website for minutes you will find NO SHORTAGE of HP owners encountering problem after problem.... maybe it is just their heavier models that have problems.

I noticed the spec on the zd7000 and 1000 models, and they put a lot of HOT running BIG parts in a small laptop. this could be a problem.

But this model here the dv series is relatively smaller and not as high end, so it shouldn't have heating issues

So it is boughten.... So it must be paid off with a second job!

I have a similar model to this laptop (slightly faster GPU, no blu-ray) and mine runs WoW pretty well. If your son is into online shooters, it should run games like Call of Duty 4, but expect to turn graphics all the way down.

all in all, this laptop is a pretty good deal, but if you're considering this as a present for a college-bound relative, he/she would be much better suited with a netbook.

careful cuz the ps3 is misleading. First of course you have no Operating System "Fluff" which means no operating caches and hidden background noise you can't turn off, like windows explorer.exe

Next you are failing to see the CPU cell processor spec. here is the site

http://www.woot.com/Forums/AddPost.aspx?PostID=3617072&Quote=True

notice the 7 x 256 SRAM for SPE, which means that it is capable of running all its 256MB memory at 7 different consecutive times. all overlapping if need be to give you that "ultimate" gaming resolution. plus take note of the awesome 25Gb/s Main Ram speed.

Your less than 300 dollar laptops are going to be called "net" books, and there processors are still not able to be bigger than 2.0Ghz...... to play World of Warcraft, um no.... please do not buy a netbook. spend the cash 600-700 and get the results you want. gaming with an attitude. even if it is simple WOW gaming.

Buy this laptop, you will be satisfied with med-high settings, not ultra high, but possible with a 200 dollar upgrade.

For hardcore gaming such as Crysis, you're better off getting him a nice desktop, or building one (a LOT cheaper). Laptops CAN play games well, but for top speeds and quality, a desktop is best.

If you have any questions about building PC's just message my, I can help guide you through it with sites and guides.

Very similar models, but not the same. dv7-1261wm vs. dv7-1448dx. Still worth comparing if you don't mind compromising a bit to save $90. Don't forget shipping cost though and Win7. Who in the day would have thought of 320 GB hd as small, but this is a media machine and that could eat up your storage quickly. Depends on your use & budget.

Depends on what you are trying to run via bluetooth. if it is A2DP devices, look here

Eeeewwwwww! A refurbished 17" HP laptop. Run away!!! Run away and don't look back.

What happened that they have this many "refurbished" laptops to get rid of?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I purchased a HP Pavilion 17" laptop in 2007 at Costco for $1,300+. I now have a 17" paperweight, as do thousands of other people with with a fried motherboard in which HP refuses to acknowledge should be part of their recall. The guy at the repair shop showed me five HP laptops with the same problem.

Many models of HP Pavilion laptops have problems with heat cooking the innards. And since this is also a "refurb" . . . NO THANKS!

RUN!
