Ever thought you couldn't play any games on a netbook? this gateway is perfect for casual gaming:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpXjAlfVILc&NR=1&feature=fvwp

THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS LAPTOP IS THAT the CPU is not soldered, so there's a lot of talk on the forums about the possibility of changing it out for a X2 processor. WHich would kick any other notebooks ass.

(I do not work for gateway but I do think this is a great netbook, and I want to see the next woot.)

There is a difference betweem a netbook and a laptop.

You're wording here is mixingthem into one thing.

And here I see that a "refurbished" Gateway netbook is being offered? Wow. Good luck to those who buy one of these; I hope you never have the problems I've had with Gateway.

Oh, and I never buy anything "refurbished". Recycled? Yes. Refurbished? No.

Some of my best purchases have been refurbs, you're missing out.

sure, a 11 inch portable computer is a computer of the yesteryears

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my grandma who just likes to browse the internet and shop.

Are there much cheaper netbooks out there that have lesser specs?

You miss the point of Woot. Here you will find stuff that there is a ton of refurbed items available or most people ended up not wanting. Macbooks fit into neither one of those categories.

The butt? Just how are you hauling it? On a jockstrap? Most of us only experience pain in the back, not the butt. heh.

Much of that is true, and I apologize for some of my cynacism. But there is no reason to put a single core 1.2GHz processor in a chassis over a decent dual core (for heaven's sake, the recommended system requirementst for Vista is 1.0Ghz... they could at least give it a little more buffer room). The space savings are negligible. The cost... well, I am no expert but they are still mass produced.

I just bought an Acer One from Woot a few weeks ago. It was a few dollars cheaper ($229+Shipping) but it had half the ram and only 160GB harddrive. The one thing that I think makes these kick-ass is the 6 cell battery that lasts over 6 hours. Having a light ultra-portable laptop would be pointless if you also have to haul 5 pounds of cables/transformers and be near an electrical outlet all the time.

I'd recommend a buy.

you can find netbooks for just under $200 now. but that is for the older models that are being discontinued.

look at spending a little more to get a lot more.

I guess I am wondering what the difference is between a netbook and a notebook. I thought netbook could not support microsoft office and could only run a lesser operating system. I mostly see Intel Atom chips in the netbook application. What makes this one a netbook? I have seen notebooks with AMD Athalon chips...

Yes, if you stay tuned , Woot will probably offer some Acer netbooks for about $210-$240. I got an Asus netbook from Woot for $150 two months ago but I wouldn't recommend it for for grandma since the screen is small. One advantage of this model is that it's the largest sccreen available on a netbook. In fact, some would say its size and weight disqualify it from the category.

As for lesser specs, that depends on what you mean. Most netbooks use a better CPU (1.6 ghz Atom) but smaller hard drive (usually 160 gb).

Anyway stay tuned. Woot usually offers 3-4 netbooks in their Wootofs.

if you just type : what's the difference between a netbook and a laptop?

into google you will get about ten pages of links telling the answer. I have not read them all. I am sure some of them are silly.

Nor do Mac products ever fit under the categories of "heavily discounted" or "easily affordable" -- both of which describe Woots and Wootoffs. Except for Shun knives.

I got one of these when they were sold on NOV. 12, and I love it! I put on Win 7 Pro and it runs shockingly fast! I can watch 720p videos, play games like Portal and World of Goo and even make songs using Adobe Audition. I know, I to thought Adobe products working on netbooks was a myth, but it's not!

With how powerful this netbooks is, I've started calling it a mini laptop.

I bought one of these off of woot a few weeks ago. I agree it is a tad big to really be considered a netbook. That being said, I threw in a 500GB hdd and upgraded to 4GB ram and have been very happy with this highly portable notebook. Runs 64-bit Linux like a champ.
