This is the 1st time I've seen a price change mid woot, but even for $39.99 (+$5 shipping) the $54.99 new one on newegg is a much wiser choice. Glad they realized how bad of a deal it was at $49.99 however.

Gotta love when someone who joined May 2009 and who has only bought two things flips out b/c they didn't get the bee oh see.

2.5 years, 34 woots, no bee oh sees for me. I'm too far from Houston to get it.

STOP, wads.

As for buying another REFURBED HDD from W00T, lesson learned as long time ago. Not for me!

If it's the same comment from the same person they can't help it, it's woots servers. No need to be an ass.

I think the site is bapofcrap.com or something like that.

Anyone know if it is accurate?

There are youtube videos of folks opening Boggy Old Creature's.

While there are quite a few things that are, perhaps, actually IMPROVED as a result of being returned to the factory and refurbished, I don't really think hard drives are among them. If one of these ever fails, I wouldn't trust it with anything critical - "recertified" or not.

Been here for years. Tried every time for the Boggy Old Creature, never got one. I'm on a 10Mb fibre link, so a fast connection doesn't necessarily get you a better chance of gaining the Bag.

db, disappointed but determined.

The one at Newegg is 16MB cache; this one claims to be 32.

This must be my lucky day. I normally don't watch the wootoffs very closely knowing that my chances of catching the baby of the cosmos is next to nill.

Today I was cycling between Woot, Kids.Woot, and Wine.Woot looking for Christmas gifts when who should show up but the Bard of Christmas himself. I managed to negotiate a small, but hopefully remunerative transaction with the old man.

Woot!

so you are saying that even after knowing for years how the servers and connection are not sufficient, that w00t is still not able to do anything like, buy servers that will handle the traffic, or hire someone that knows what the hell they are doing ?

Not going to pay $40 plus shipping for a refurb when Newegg has brand-spanking new ones for $55, including shipping. Not to mention that they also have a new 1TB Hitachi drive for $80, inc. shipping.

C'mon, Woot! You can do better than this!

Savvy shoppers' tip: Buy it brand new from Newegg for $55 (shipped) and get a 3-year (vs. 6-month) warranty.

Computer geeks' tip: Spend $65 on a Western Digital Caviar Black and you'll have a 5-year warranty from the most respected manufacturer of hard drives.

The hard drive itself is cheap. How much is your data worth? Would you trust your data to a recertified drive? One that the manufacturer isn't willing to *guarantee* will still work in 181 days?

I'm in NY and made it to the processing page last time. But i wouldn't mind trying another "1 in 10 stock market lotto" for the bag again.
