On the order page It gave me the choice to pick either the TVW600PCIE for PCI-e or the TVW650PCI for PCI. If the pci-e one is not for sale why do they make it a choice on checkout?
bmxjimp wrote:This looks like a low profile card with a full size bracket. Does anyone know if the card comes with an optional low profile bracket? Many HTPCs, such as the one I would like to put this card in, will require a low profile bracket...
I don't think these come with low profile brackets; they're absent from Diamond's product pages, and the 650 states full-height. I think you can still get away with it by detaching the bracket, then cutting it down with tin snips or a dremel or something(or just removing the bracket altogether).
Nice job woot, I was going to buy one of these sometime before Christmas, so you've saved me some money (not enough money to pay for my woot during the woot off, but some money nonetheless).
are these come with the input connector cables or just the card itself ?
dcfrate wrote:You get taxed because YOU THINK they're in St. Louis? That's a powerful mind you have, indeed, if just thinking something makes it so.
Woot does indeed have a physical location in St. Louis, MO. I believe they do the photos for wine.woot at this location in addition to other activities. As for the tuners, I would love to get one, but with all the confusion on what we are actually getting, I may sit this one out rather than deal with getting something that might not meet my needs. We'll see.. If that stupidly large button starts bouncing I may pull the trigger anyway..

How would it be connected to the computer (instead of the PCI slot)?

I eat lunch at a qdoba once a week that is next to a building that has some woot logo stuff on it (in St. Louis). It just says woot, though, so not sure if it is one particular woot (like regular strength, shirt, or what). I know it takes FOREVER for me to get stuff that I order, though, so it must not be coming from there.

Yes I'm replying to myself. Looks like they fixed the description and order page, they all match now. Who lost their job? ;)

I needed the PCI, not the PCIe, I think I ordered the PCI but now I'm confused and want to make sure, but can't figure it out.
Does anyone know of a DVR software program (be it the one that comes with this card or another) to be used with this that is easy to use for recording clear QAM channels broadcast over cable (i.e. FREE HD channels on cable)? Doesn't have to be Windows Media Center "easy", but I've tried this with another brand in the past and the software was horrible...wouldn't trust my must-see shows/games with it at all.
They changed my receipt without telling me too! I ordered the 650pcie card and have the receipt to prove it. But now the online receipt is different. Isn't that like, bait and switch?
I just ordered the 600 so I can record my 8mm camcorder tapes to DVD. Please advise if it will work, or should I cancel? I don't really care about any of the other features. But $24.99 is a cheap DVD recorder I think. Don't know why everyone is going by pci or pcie. One is 600 & the other is 650. Seems less confuzzling to me to use the numbers. Can anyone help me here?

Same thing happened to me!! That's kinda messed up! What's up with that?!
For someone who has never built/dismantled a computer before, how hard will it be to install this puppy? Are there any step-by-steps out there?

Go back and read the model numbers again in the post you were quoting and in the post you made, that should hopefully clear up your confusion on that issue. Also of note, this is probably a Diamond card, so the people who are getting the specs from ATI's site might be posting misleading info. Confusion abounds with this clusterfrag of a sale, though, so who knows...

They will both work, assuming you have the correct slot in your computer. The 650 will work better because it has hardware decoding for the analog signal coming from the camcorder, and everyone has a PCI slot in a desktop computer made this decade.

It's extremely easy to do. Just Google "installing a PCI card" and you'll find numerous how-to guides and videos on it. There's very little difference between installing PCI and PCI-E (make sure you've got an open slot of whichever type available, obviously, as they're incompatible with one another).
edman545 wrote:...everyone has a PCI slot in a desktop computer made this decade.
Some newer computers no longer come with PCI slots... The last 3 computers we purchased have 6 PCIe slots and no PCI.

Thankyou. So the 650, even though it doesn't have a composite input, will fit any desk top and the 600 that does have the composite input, which I need, has to have a special input? How can I tell if my PC has the special input? Thanks for your help.

Not sure about Mac, I doubt it but Myth TV for Linux works with a lot of hardware. http://www.mythtv.org/
Bought 2 650 PCIs to upgrade the 550's (analog receivers) I've had running for about 4 years now. Amazingly low price.
genesommers wrote:Some newer computers no longer come with PCI slots... The last 3 computers we purchased have 6 PCIe slots and no PCI.
Yeah some don't have them. However most I've seen will have at least one PCI, though it may be used by a 56k modem which if isn't needed provides a slot.
I have never seen a PCI to USB or any such device. This item should work with any TV signal, be it cable, over the air HD or satellite.

What make & model computer do you have?
it should be realitivly easy if you know what ports are which on your GPU/MOtherboard. basicly it should be open it up (after you shut it down of course) plug it into the right slot (where tahts at depends on your particular computer) and then close it up and start it up, windows should recognize that youve added new hardware.
I haven't read all 13+ pages but so far I haven't seen any comments about the 2 tuners. The info says you can watch one show while recording another. It's misleading because in order to do that you can only watch a digital show while recording an analog show or vice versa.
There is a jack on the 650 card that looks like an S-video jack, but it is a connector that adapts a connector block that contains s-video, composite and l/r audio. This adapter was furnished with ATI HDTV wonder cards and still may be available as an option. If you have a pci-e slot, the 600 will do the same job and doesn't need the adapter. Don't worry about the hardware mpeg encoder, unless your pc is less than the min requirements, the software encoder will work fine.
In for one of the 650PCI... This is something possibly useful I didn't previously have, and while I generally despise any ATI product, for less than $30 shipped who really cares?

ohwhoaitzjoe wrote:I'm confused Motz. Why would you want more than two tuners on one system? I have some hold on why you might want two of these tuners, to watch and record different channels for a certain signal, but why three or more? Is it just to record several channels at once ?
Well currently I have 2 tuners, which allows me to record one show and watch another at the same time. However if I am recording 2 shows at the same time then I would not be able to watch another show. Windows 7 supports 4 tuners inside of Media Center, so it would be ideal to have 4 tuners so I would never have to worry about anything. I purchased a Coax splitter so all of my tuners go into it and out to 1 antenna. Here is my splitter: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10422&cs_id=1042206&p_id=2871&seq=1&format=2

If you are expecting someone to read 14+ pages of discussions before buying one, you must not live in the United States the land of the lazy.
There is currently no PCI to USB adapter available, you will need a desktop with an open PCI slot for this. I think they do make HDTV tuners for laptops though.

An older HP a367c w/P4HT. Thanks.
Ok, I spent a couple hours reading reviews, forum posts, and other info about these cards. They do not work on Linux or Mac. They are Windows Only. People can get at least the 650pci to work on Windows 7 by manually forcing it to use the x64 Vista drivers (manually selecting the driver). The included software is horrendous and should *never* be installed. Snag JUST the drivers from the AMD/ATI website and install only the drivers. Then use other software for tv playback and recording. You will need third party software, but there are freeware options. There is a break-out box with the 650pci that is required for some of the additional inputs. If that is not included, they you will only have the two f-type coax inputs. That's all I have to report. =)
I noticed that some other retailers offer a remote with the card. I was wondering if my logitec harmony remote will work with this? Anyone know? Is there an IR cable included?
ZJManiak wrote:To repeat the question, any idea if this will work with Windows 7?
From ATI/AMD's website: "Windows 7 Drivers for the ATI TV Wonder™ HD 600/650 series and All in Wonder™ HD series are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2010." Vista drivers seem to be working if you are running 32-bit Windows 7. For 64-bit, you'll likely have to wait until ATI releases drivers to get full functionality out of the card.

There are multiple reports of people getting Win7 64-bit to work by manually selecting the Vista 64 drivers, but they will not autoinstall or autoselect. Do NOT try to use the bundled software. Grab only the drivers, install those, then manually select the Vista64 driver for this device.
does the PCI card actually have a clear QAM tuner for digital cable? I don't see that here: http://www.diamondmm.com/TVW650PCI.php
