If this had been a 6-cell battery, I would've bought it.

This price for a 3-cell isn't worth it.

I couldn't help noticing the computer comes with "two integrated stereo speakers". That's great because one stereo speaker just doesn't feel right, while three or more stereo speakers is a bit like gilding the lily.

Somehow two speakers seems just the way Nature intended stereo to be. Who knew?

If you don't mind powering down, you can also get another 3-cell as a backup. I find that the larger battery packs make the netbook cumbersome (since they stick out of the back). And the skinny 3-cell pack fits in a pocket easily.

fldeals wrote:Can you upgrade the memory? (i.e. Can you add more RAM or is the current RAM permanently installed?).

Yes, you can. It only has 1 RAM slot, so you have to toss the 1GB stick and replace it with a 2GB stick, but that's typical on netbooks.

I originally posted about the wrong model, tried to edit it out but I wasn't quick enough.

The D250 on sale here is easy to upgrade. Please ignore that "quality" post. See my other post for more info on upgrading this unit.

Woot staffers hereby have my permission (not that they need it) to change that front page post to "octowoot is an id10t who posts before he thinks," or something along those lines.

I wonder if this odd-ball display is Linux compatible?

Huh, maybe if it were grey-scale???....try 6-bit color...

2^6 x RED
2^6 x GREEN
2^6 x BLUE

(2^6)^3 = 2^18 = 262,144

Fair price with the accessories if you missed all the Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales. I got mine (same model) new for $199 at target with a sleeve the week of thanksgiving, and an hp/compaq for $179 on BF at Best Buy at 11 AM. I bought the Acer accessory pack new on Amazon.com for $49.99 shipped on BF.

As someone already posted, you can easily find 6- and 9-cell replacements for this unit for $45 or so. Check Amazon for starters.

You can buy an extra 6 cell battery on Ebay (generic) for $50 probably, but if you need more battery life you may be better off finding a deal on a new one. They can be found for under $300 new with 6 cell.

Actually bought this same Acer Aspire One 10.1" at Office Depot two days ago. Was $299.99 "on sale" and came with no extras, not even a carrying bag!!!

I will say, the Aspire One series is a very good line of netbooks. Has a great user community at www.aspireoneuser.com where you can get all the hacks and upgrades from more RAM to Touchscreen kit information.

I have upgraded the 8.9" size RAM which is difficult since you have to disassemble the whole computer to get at the back side of the motherboard to replace the RAM. However the 10.1" they made it as easy as any other laptop and put a cover on the back you can remove and pop in a new stick. It has one slot though so you will have to replace the 1GIG stick that is in it.

Highly suggest buying, the wife loves it. Almost thinking of returning just to buy here!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it runs Windows 7 as well incase you want to upgrade but it does NOT qualify for Acer's free windows 7 upgrade program.

Sometimes, when a manufacturer says "up to x colors," it doesn't mean that all of them can be displayed at once. Old fashioned 8-bit color has 256 colors, which usually can be chosen from a 262,144 color palette.

But this Acer DOES have 18-bit color.

These Rock.

Swap in 2 Gig Ram ($40) and a 500 gig HD ($90) and they are triple-boot beasts. They Hackintosh nicely, I'm told. Kalyway.

GMA 950 is 2048x1536 at 75 Hz maximum resolution external output- set this next to high def tv, plug in good wireless usb keyboard/moues and surf jumbo style.

It's something you didn't know you needed.

Is it capable of transferring RAW files to an external hard drive and running Photoshop CS3? Not necessarily at the same time.

That's the wrong model (I made the same mistake), the D250 has an easily-removed panel on the base where the RAM is installed.

The D250 on sale here does not——I repeat, DOES NOT——require major, warranty-killing surgery on your unit like this video depicts. It is very easy to upgrade the RAM on it.

edit: Here's someone's blog detailing what an easy upgrade it is.

Acer seems to ram as much useless trial applications and junk on their machines as humanly possible, no wonder this comes with a free harddrive. Be prepped to start fresh as soon as you get this badboy.

Acer's driver site is kind of annoying, here is a direct link to the latest drivers bypassing the AJAX standard search page.

$288 is the regular price at Target for this model, and Best Buy has a Samsung with 6 Cell Battery for $299. Better deals are occasionally available, especially online. Plus online deals can usually be stacked with Cashback rebates, etc.

The deal is a steal for anyone camping for a nice laptop!
Extra accessories will definitely come in handy for the laptop in the long run. \

1) Most/all laptops do not have internal DVD drives. The extra accessory can allow you to upgrade to win 7.
2) The Wireless mouse is definitely a must, since the mousepad is terrible.
3) With the bag, you can put your laptop in for travel or give it to your girlfriend for Christmas.

I bought this on black Friday with the 6 cell battery.(the 6 cell doesn't stick out too terribly if you're considering upgrading to it). It's a great netbook, and once you uninstall the Mcafee trial it runs surprisingly fast for only 1GB of ram. It streams online videos well with very little lag. Also there is a compartment on the back that unscrews to reveal the ram, so upgrading that doesn't seem like it would be too difficult either. The only downsides are that the speaker could be a little louder, and it does get hot on the bottom when watching videos for a while.

Only a techie would resist this, talk about a great buy! the netbook alone is worth the $250! You resist because you see refurb and dont realize that 90 days is more then enought time to know if its a good unit.

These things were designed for net, hence the netbook! perfect for someone who just uses the net watches streaming video via wifi or is looking for their first personal computer

in for 1

Just replace Jesus with Obama. There... all better now!

btw... I bought one of these many months ago from Scamazon and love it. It performs 95% of my computing needs (which aren't that heavy) with no problem. My six cell played video from a jump drive throughout an entire cross country flight. About six hours, and still had a little juice left in it upon arrival.

Keepin' the faith!

Oh yeah, the external speaker leaps into the vacuum but the audio quality on the headphone jack is quite good.

Acer Aspire Review from cnet:

The good: Rock-bottom price; slimmer size; improved touch pad buttons.

The bad: Weak speakers; battery life mediocre; small keyboard.

The bottom line: For the price, it's hard to find fault with Acer's even cheaper version of the 10.1-inch Aspire One, as long as you're not expecting top-of-the-line features.

View The Full Review Here (cnet)

And if you were looking at the Gateway on Sellout.Woot:This is the CNet Review to the Gateway 11.6" Netbook

The good: Feels faster than an Intel Atom Netbook, but keeps the price low; high-def display.

The bad: Uninspiring battery life; terrible mouse buttons; no Bluetooth.

The bottom line: The 11-inch, AMD-powered Gateway LT3103u does well on price and performance, but drops the ball on battery life when compared with the competition.

I've been using the 8.9 inch Aspire One for about a year now. Best decision ever. I'm completely happy with my purchase.

The Atom AMAZES me. The first thing I looked at when going over to sellout today was the processor in that Gateway. No Intel Atom? Then I'm not interested. This processor is godly.

The keyboard is one of the best designed of all the netbooks. Full size keys, instead of the half keys like on the Asus Eee. Even full size shift keys and space bar, which a lot of the other netbooks don't have. It does take a little bit of getting used to, but once you are, you're golden.

The RAM in the original 8.9" was a bear to upgrade. This has been fixed in this model of it.

In short, I wouldn't buy any other netbook. I just don't trust them. I've played with someone else's Eee 1000, and couldn't stand it for more than a few minutes. This netbook is the best and cheapest of its class.

My order isn't processing either guys Been processing for about 20 minutes now. How about you all?
