It's being compared against full-size laptop and desktop CPUs. This is a netbook. Try comparing the CPUs against all other 8-11 inch netbooks if you want a fair comparison.

You can't hold netbooks to the same standards as desktops and full size laptops. They aren't used for the same applications or reasons.

Split monitor, Separate monitor, Ect. runs AWESOME and is all short keyed.

All in all an extremely powerful netbook, Ram is upgradable to 2GB through access slot in the back. (one screw). Battery life on the 3 cell is 3-4 hours.

Just be aware that a three cell battery doesn't allow for much battery life, especially if you're surfing wireless. Without wireless using it with word processing I give it an hour and a half, browsing the internet I'd give it less. Upgrade to a 6 cell battery if you really want to go portable, I think they sell them on newegg for around 75 bucks. Even with that upgrade though, the accessory pack makes this a great deal.

Looks like almost the same price for a new one (if its the same model) than a refurbished one. Is the accessory kit worth the risk of a refurbish model? Im getting this for my 10yo niece. I know she will use it for homework and games, will this be good for her?

The external DVDRW alone is worth at least $50. I had to pay $80 to buy one at Wal-mart a while back.

I'm not devout by any measure, but I found this narrative a little offensive and unnecessary. Appreciated Woot spreading around the insensitivity to Muslims, though. Nice balance, kinda brave!

Those are extremely old games. All that means is that it can run games whose system requirements are about 1/8 to 1/4 of what's now considered mid-range among full-sized computers. Yeah, big deal, I could run Myst on this computer too. So what? That's not a surprise.

This computer is NOT powerful, as you claim. What it is is light, ultra-portable, long lasting on a single charge, and thus a perfect unobtrusive platform to carry with you anywhere for surfing the web or productivity.

At any rate, yes, this is a great deal. However, the one thing to note is that the wifi receiver is only g-generation, so it will not be able to take advantage of the new n-generation networks. No matter, however: n-generation networks will be backwards-compatible with g generation receivers. The only real problem is that you won't be able to take advantage of the greater bandwidth, but for me the current g-generation speeds are quite fast enough.

Also, as another poster mentioned above, you'll probably have to upgrade the battery from 3 cells to 6 cells in order to be able to use the netbook for a reasonably long time on a single charge. But also as he said, this is still a great deal.

Scored me a D250 on Newegg's Black Friday sale for $188 shipped. Came with 6 cell battery and bluetooth. I immediately popped a 2 gig stick of RAM I purchased at the same time, imaged the hard drive and threw Win7 Ultimate on. I also added a 4 gig SDHC card for readyboost and upgraded from the stock 1.06 BIOS to the current 1.25. I can go 8-9 hours without recharging.

I hate laptops. I own a i7 OC'd to 4.0 Ghz with SLI'd GTX 275's, 12 gigs of RAM, and an SSD. I've been using my new netbook more often than my gaming rig, because it's just so convenient. Was surfing the net while eating at Denny's this AM.

If you're going to upgrade the RAM, get a higher-rated speed and/or lower latency module. The module I got was rated at PC 6400 at CAS5, but runs at default speed with CAS4, which helps out with performance.

Keep in mind if you're going to Win7 that the lower Atom CPU's don't support 64 bit.

Oh yeah, hooked it up to my 25" LCD and the picture quality is pretty good for being VGA.

I didn't notice the 100% of sales in the first hour, either...but the "last wooter to woot" keeps changing...so my fingers are crossed, since I was in for 3 and ending my Christmas shopping in "one fell woot."

Thanks, I did end up purchasing but its still processing. Its been about 40 minutes, so lets see what happens.

You sure this works on the Aspire One? From their website: "(currently supported chipsets: GMA 950 (mobile Intel® 945 family) and GMA 900 (mobile Intel® 915 family))."

The Aspire One has an Intel Atom N270.

WOW! You bought yours before I did, and I got mine first. I guess it doesn't really go in order or the system just started to speed up. At least now all my Christmas presents have been bought, lol. Now I can relax, until the next woot. Not a bad deal for my first woot...

Make sure you understand how limiting the 600 pixels of vertical resolution can be. I have 8.9" AAO that I loved everything about but got frustrated with the limited vertical resolution.

Bought an HP 2140 HD mini that fit the bill (10" screen with 1366x768 res). I also recently purchased the Gateway LT3203u from woot...upgraded that to 4GB of ram and a 500GB hdd. The Athlon 64 CPU is nice.

Poor jdegraph. Got all insulted and whatnot.

just got this one.. after checking the other one at sellout woot.. The gateway netbook there has some issues with Linux Wifi , Memory management and gets overheated on continuous usage (>1hr).. this is much lighter and thinner, the atom keeps it cooler.. and the accessories are also there..

PS: 6 cell battery only buys you 4 - 4.5 hrs on the gateway netbook .. Its better to buy this one and upgrade battery for 40 bucks.. i think

I picked up one last Christmas, and it's worked out very well. I use it as a 'remote' to log into my work computers with LogMeIn, and also keep it in the office as a dedicated phone servicer with my MagicJack.

I wouldn't try doing a whole lot with it (the keyboard is pretty darn small), but the price and portability make it ideal for quick tasks.

I strongly recommend using it to remote into a more powerful machine, because then you don't actually have to load any software onto the netbook, aside from Internet Explorer. And so if you lose or break it, you haven't lost any data.

So, high marks for this little guy!

Think of this as a backlit Kindle . . . download the free PC bookreader software from Amazon, learn to live without a couple of Kindle features, and read in your favorite dark place. Battery life is poor, price is good. Can the battery be upgraded to a 6-cell?

how would this be for a child to do online games and kids' CDROM games?

this is the net book i got about 6 months ago w/ a 6 cell battery. love it but hate the touch pad buttons. it requires too much force for it to work. i use a mouse when i can. All in all a great deal. Get the 6 cell, the three will only last for 3-4 hrs best.
