You mean this CPU beat out 110 other CPU’s? To me that sounds pretty good since this is just a netbook. Hard to believe that 14% of all CPU’s are worse. I am in for one!

(P.S. it even beat out the sellout woot computer CPU, it came in at 672).

Got this same system, with the addition of a 6-cell battery instead of the 3-cell, and built-in Bluetooth, from an online Thanksgiving weekend sale for $309. This is a fantastic netbook bundle. The 3-cell, which my buddy has, gives about 3 hours of wireless online browsing, and the 6-cell gives about 6 hours.

Not a fan of today's "humor."

Just wanted to say out loud to Woot that it bothers me.

I think that it IS ok to bash or make fun of the idiosyncrasies of a PRODUCT a bit, but to make light of Jesus this way is offensive. It also is rude to make fun of Muhammad followers at the end.

Just my two cents. Thanks for listening.

I've bought or used several netbooks: Asus EEPC's, Aspire, Dell.

Comparing all of them in real life usage I'm extremely pleased with this one. Love it.

Feels feather light, the keyboard is very comfortable (using it right now) and bigger than the Asus). The screen size is fine, for longer ("taller") pages I often put the browser in full-screen mode.

There is a memory upgrade available at newegg and other similar sites: you buy a 2 Gb memory stick ($25-$50) that replaces the 1 Gb. I may upgrade one day but I haven't felt the need yet. With the other netbooks I had to run to upgrade them ASAP, because they felt sluggish. This one works fine. XP "almost" feels zippy in this machine as is.

Let's talk battery.
Mine came with the 3 cell. The one I purchased for my mom came with the 6 cell. The 6 cell gives you close to 6 hrs continuous use and for on/off use, it seems endless. The 3 cell is supposed to run for 3, but is closer to 2.5 hrs. The trade off is weight. While they are both lightweight, the 3 cell adds to the feather weight feel. Either way, if you need the longer runtime, you can buy the 6 cell for around $45.

Of all the netbooks I've experienced, this is by far the best.

The touch pad is much better than most (supports "iPod similar" gesturing) but I hate any touch pads or mini-sticks so I always use a (wireless) mouse.

The Aspire has 3 usb ports AND an SD/XD/SDLC slot. So the 3 USBs go a long way.

The wireless mouse included today compares to $25+ and the drive $40+

The whole bundle as sold today is an excellent bargain. The PC alone is $338 at Amazon.

My Acer Aspire One (and my mom's) were refurbished and both look and feel new.

The only refurbs I have NEVER had luck with are MP3 players.

The Aspire One has an Intel Atom N270.

The GMA 900/950 regers to the video hardware, not the CPU. The Aspire is equipped with the GMA 950 as listed in the specifications in the item description.

Before you leap to assume they are the same deal - check the model # - the one on sale today is the D270 using the N270 processor.

Check the model, if it is the same, includes the wireless mouse and CD/DVD and it is all new, then GO FOR IT!!!

I love netbooks, in fact, I am typing this on the similar 6-cell Acer I bought on a Woot Off last month. They are surprisingly easy to type on what with the smaller keyboard and all.

I would love to have that accessory bundle, why haven't I seen it on any Woot Offs (or have I just missed it)?

Not to mention if you are that worried about it, you can buy the extended warranty via Square Trade. Here is a 20% off coupon code I got in the mail good until 01/10/10 or the first 10,000 respondents.. HOLIDAYMAIL.
I opted for a 2 yr warranty for an additional $15 bucks which the coupon code covered nicely.

I bought 3 of these with the 6 cell batteries back in Oct.. I get 8 hours of normal use so far... can't afford to buy this one just for the accessories... if you are thinking of one these are great and you really should not worry about the refurbished label. I have bought at least 50 refurbished items and have not had a problem with any of them....

I wiped the hard drive and installed Windows XP Pro with the drivers from Acer ( http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ ). I ran it yesterday for 5+ hours with wireless on, Bluetooth off, with display about 70%, and it was still reporting about an hour of battery life left. I don't play videos, which could eat up more battery life I guess, just reading websites and email.

mywoottracker wrote:This would make a really good christmas gift for a techie in the family! too bad its Refurbished

I really don't get the skiddish refurbished attitude... not sure where it is coming from.. Like I posted earliear, I am a techie and only buy refurbished. Most of the time refurbished units are nothing more then returns from non-techies who might have for example baucked at the idea of reinstalling from their recover cd after deleting files that the computer needs to work properly.

They just call up Dell or Acer and say, this unit is broken and I am not going to waist my time by reinstalling the software. YOu send me a new working one OR I will return this one for a refund. So they get a new unit, the manufacture re installs all the software and here you go, refurbishes unit.

Others come from events that a manufactures sponsors. Say Acer sets up a large both at a convention to allow convention goes the ability to access the internet. When the convention is done, Acer takes these units back, wipes them clean and re installs all software. Since they are used units they can't legally sell them as new hence the refurbished label.

I have yet to regret buying a refurbished unit... an since money is tight they are a good deal in most cases not all but most.

Completely off topic: Woot leaps into the vacuum not at all compared to yugster. Today Yugster has a "surprise bundle" for sale - akin to the "bag o' fish-carp" from Woot...only, it leaps into the vacuum. It utterly leaps into the vacuum every time. Based on my woot experiences, I got a random bag from yuggers and it had...fish. All I remember were some $2 headphones, an alan wrench (really?), and a light-up keychain light (you know the kind, where even if you actually wanted the thing you couldn't use the light and key at the same time?)

I was one of those people who was on the comment boards on yugster noting that their surprise bundles HOOVERED. Then we noticed that yugster was deleting the negative comments! They were trying to rip people off and then keep it all hush-hush. Really. Wow. So people like me started noting in the comments that all negative comments were deleted.

Today yugster has a surprise woot bac rip-off up...and they have removed the comment board entirely.

So whine about woot all you want - but at least they face their criticism and don't try to hide the facts. Kudos for woot - not sucking when you see the competition.
(I say this with full knowledge that no matter how hard I try, I will never win a fish-o-bag) (ever)

This is the same model for those that bought it from the wootoff last month. The netbook itself is great. I've never needed or even thought of using a mouse or keyboard.

It too was refurbished, but the darn thing looks brand new. Not sure why some people are afraid of that fact. This is a great deal if you plan on using the drive and mouse.

i've bought 4 of the acer aspire one, and they work really well for what they're meant to do: surf, email, word processing (tho' folks w/ big hands might dislike the smaller keys), social networking, buying more woot!s . . .

batteries for both the early 8.9" and current 10.1" aspire one are interchangeable, and have gotten cheap. i've actually seen nine cell units on ebay. and if you turn off stuff you don't need (like bluetooth, or wi-fi) and dial down the screen brightness - and it's *very* bright - you can extend the run time a lot.

if i could afford to, i'd get three more and sell them to my patients who are amazed at the one i carry into the exam room. they love the idea of doing skype video and seeing their new grandkids . . .

I bought the refurbished Acer in October from Woot. I didn't know about the extended warranty-my bad, I hadn't read about it. But, it seems to me that the cost of this might have eliminated the savings of buying refurbished. The netbook broke after a month and was replaced by a company called Renovate. When I called Acer initially, got a recording that said that the netbook was not under warranty even though the warranty was 90 days. Somehow, I got though to Renovate who did replace the netbook with another refurbished. It seemed to me when I talked to the technician that this happened often, refurbished netbooks dying quickly.

For what this is worth, it seemed like a scam to me. They hope the netbooks last 90 days and then, they're free and clear even though, they're probably selling junk. Also, I had to pay postage to return the defective netbook and the 90 day warranty goes back to the original purchase date so you lose time when Woot ships it to you and when they ship the replacement netbook to you. Your 90 day warranty essentially become a 30 day warranty.

I wrote this up to Woot and never got a response. My lesson learned is not to buy a refurbished item of this kind from Woot again.

fldeals wrote:Can you upgrade the memory? (i.e. Can you add more RAM or is the current RAM permanently installed?).

Easily. The user who said it requires major surgery is incorrect. The memory bank is accessed via a hatch on the bottom of the machine. I upgraded mine to 2GB in five minutes. You can also upgrade the hard drive to a higher capacity model the same way - a hatch on the bottom allows you to swap drives easily.

Now, upgrading the wireless card does require major surgery. I did it because I run Leopard on my netbook and needed to put in something better than the POS wireless card it came with.
