Yes there is a record and playback feature for the FM radio. I doubt if you can transfer them to a computer or another player.

Here is a link to a page with a how-to for encoding video for the Fuze on Linux.

Be aware that this method requires Wine, but it seems that this player is super picky about video.

Really though, rockbox is great. Rockbox lets you more easily navigate through the radio stations, and play most formats, so you dont have to use those darn wma's or mp3's
also, rockbox has games
thats worth somtin, rite?.

http://build.rockbox.org/
its the one on the lower right
use the automatic download installer though, its easier

have i mentioned it plays mpgs?

Wikipedia has a nice article summarizing these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sansa_Fuze

Looks like it probably can't run the Rockbox alternative firmware (http://www.rockbox.org/) - Fuze V1 is unstable, Fuze V2 is unsupported (the listing doesn't indicate V1 or V2).

And just what do NEED wifi for on a $22 mp3 player? People have gotten so ridiculous. The thing plays music (which is what its mainly for), video, and fm among other things. That's a pretty decent list. What no one seems to realize, the more you pack into these gadgets, there's more chance for something to fail. Aside from destroying battery life. So I say HA good sir. HA HA HA HA

Rockbox is bloody awsome! I got the 4gb Fuze for my daughter for Christmas from the last woot-off. After playing with it for a bit, I didn't want to give it to her!

In order to RockBox this puppy, go visit:

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaFuze

This will tell you what you need and link to the install instructions. You are taking a chance ordering this though. You can only RockBox the FIRST version of the Fuze. Once you rockbox it, it will play regular mpeg movies with no problem. Just whip out some good, old fashioned mencoder (free video encoder, do a google search for your OS) a la:

mencoder input.avi -o output.mpg -of mpeg -mpegopts format=mpeg1:tsaf:muxrate=2000\
-oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=224\
-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg1video:vbitrate=1152:keyint=15:mbd=2\
-vf scale=220:165\
-ofps 24000/1001

And after a few minutes you can watch movies. The screen is amazing for something so small. The battery life watching movies isn't that great. About 4-6 hours depending on what you are watching. Music, I can't tell you. We haven't drained the battery listening to music yet. But it's pretty impressive.

I'm in for one...I might bight on two. Honestly, once you rockbox this, for $30 you are getting something that beats a $100 iPod Nano hands down. You can watch movies, play games, listen to the radio. And it plays flac, Ogg Vorbis, and it looks like it will even play real audio now.

This is a no-brainer. It's cheap enough to lose. It does more than an iPod.

Just get it. If you have any questions on encoding movies or audio for this, let me know and I'll help as best as I can.

Here is a second method for encoding video for the Fuze on Linux, with a _lot_ more detail about the format requirements. It still requires Wine, and looks like it might need a little more technical know-how, but may give better results.

I love my 4GB Fuze, it's very small and the interface is great. The wheel is also a huge improvement over the ones on the e200 series Sansas. I can confirm that these take micro SDHC cards at least to 8GB and possibly higher, as I have one in mine. Battery life is outstanding, mine was about half empty after 15 hours of music.

Sansa Fuze players are great for these 5 reasons (no particular order):

1: Voice Recorder functionality and FM radio recording.

2: Great non-iTunes software support. Hook up Songbird for easy library sync and Mediafly for podcast syncing.

3: Expandable memory (although I didn't realize it only accepts 4GB microSD cards...I have a 16GB card in my 4GB Fuze and it works!)

4: Customizable Graphic EQ

5: It's cheap without being Dollar Store quality.

I found my answer in the manual.

"
The thumbwheel is used to navigate the player as well as control the volume and rate tracks.
Turn the wheel clockwise to scroll down through menu items or to increase the volume
during playback. Turn the wheel counterclockwise to scroll up through menu items or
decrease the volume during playback. "

I have one of these. The battery lasts me about 20 hours with the backlight turned down low, and I've put an 8GB card in to expand it. The sound quality is good (better than my last iPod), the interface is fairly intuitive, and best of all, the control wheel actually turns.

I have a 4gb refurb from the last Woot-Off and really like it. It included just the player, phones, and sync/charge cable. Here is my opinion of it:

+ Feels like a quality piece of equipment.
+ Works really great as a MP3 player. Compares favorably with the 1G/2G iPod Nano that I have.
+ Sound quality is good and the interface is really simple.
+ Being able to drag and drop files without installing garbage software like iTunes is a real plus.
+ A 4GB mico-SDHC is $10 so you can expand it to a decent capacity and still have it cost less than $40.

- Included ear phones are scaffolding.
- Not really giftable due to lack of retail box and manual/software.

Thanks Woot! I have needed to replace my e260 for some time now. Nothing happend to the e260 itself, the screen just cracked from riding in my back pack around school for a year.

The only problem I ever had with the Sansas is occasionally the battery will jar loose inside and the bloody thing will just die on you and not come back. I unscrewed the back and figited with the battery and it was fine after that.

I noticed that unlike other times, an item that was displayed along-side the actual item (for reference), there is no disclaimer saying we will not get both items displayed.

So, does this mean we get one of these sweet woot business cards?

Your mileage may vary, but if you want the 4gb version of this in NEW packaging you might want to try hitting up your nearby ritz camera (or whatever name they're under depending on the state). They have them on clearance for like $35. Not bad for a NEW 4gb mp3 player.

The black ring spins around but mine stopped spinning easily (probably gunk in it) and I couldn't get it clean and so have to glue little knobbies on it to spin it. The ease of the dial seems great at first but in the long run it's less reliable than Clip style clicking up and down and sideways.

I bought a similar Sansa recently, hoping to add on more than 4gb, and was very disappointed.

If you're looking to keep things simple windows media player does the job fine and is probably already on your computer. The drag and drop function is also very straightforward.

Have you updated the firmware?

I'm running mine with an 8GB and a 16GB sdhc respectively.. and aside from the initial indexing (takes 5-6 minutes) - they've been working fine.

I did notice it didn't like any of my off-brand 4gb sdhc... those were class 2 i stuck with higher class ( 4 and 6) for the larger cards and its been good.
