jackjackjackaroo wrote:iTunes is nearly (completely) exclusively oriented for Apple devices (iPod / iPhone / iTouch), so no other MP3 players will sync directly with iTunes for protected tracks. You can instead do the same technique that everyone has done since iTunes was available -- under iTunes, burn your tracks to an audio CD, and then rip & encode them to plain MP3 files afterward using your favorite software.

If you use iTunes to rip CDs, make sure you set it up to rip in MP3 format, so you can put the music on non-iPod devices.

I don't see anything about how to charge the battery. Is it done just through the usb port on your computer or do you have to buy a charging station/device separately? If anyone knows and could tell me, I will GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks!

Of course, I'll have to pick up today's woot as a backup to my backup.

I think Media Player puts them into your My Music folder (if you run XP), so you can just pull them from there. Easy as pie.

I recommend ripping CDs in 320Kbps, because although you get a larger file, it usually sounds near-CD quality.

I'd buy another one, but the one I'm plugged into now is working flawlessly.
Not sure why someone would pay for an iPod.

I bought an 8Gb micro SD chip and the Fuze recognized it with no problem.

Then I bought those metal noise-canceling earbuds here last month, and I can't be happier.
The recorder on the thing is a treasure.
I can't say enough good things about what a great value this little device is.

I'm mostly worried about the condition of "refurbished". I know it will have the etching on the back, but aside from that do they usually look like they've been through a washing machine? No warranty on refurbs right?

Change your CD import settings to rip to mp3 and that will fix the import problem. You can use foobar2000 to re-encode the stuff you buy from itunes.

Change your CD import settings to MP3 instead of AAC. As for the content you already imported, after switching import settings, right click the songs in question and click "make MP3 version" and it will convert them for you so you can use them with non-aac devices.

2 longstanding freeware apps -- myFairTunes and QTFairUse have both been around for quite a while and are widely accepted as stable, and will strip out the DRM while converting the file to mp3. This should be simpler than some of the prior suggestions, as it is a "one step" process.

Either should pop up easily with a google search.

DRM is irrelevant since files ripped using iTunes are DRM free and all iTunes music downloads are DRM free as well. No need to add additional software to do something iTunes can do itself.

so... is it that kind of easy?

What the proprietary dock means is that Sansa owns the rights to their dock and doesn't let anyone else make them. So you won't find any 3rd party accessories for the player. However, you will be able to transfer music just fine with the cable they give you.

Got one of the previous 2G's and received it Tuesday. Picked up an 8G uSD on the way home. Loaded 5 eps of Heroes using video4fuze, 6.9G remaining on card. Watched Heroes at the Lunch Time drive-in. *Far* superior to the Palm V I had been using even though the screen is smaller. Organizing MP3's movies etc. to start filling this puppy as I type.

The other thing no one has mentioned about the proprietary plug is that it won't work with all the docks and other things that only work with the Apple iStuff. There are plenty of other docks and speakers that work with the Sansa though.

My sister has a 2GiB Clip and loves it.

Depends on the company. As an example, my Dell laptop is a refurb and they give a full regular warranty.

I thought that you could not convert an .M4P file to non-DRM, just the .M4A files were convertible. Whenever I have bought a song on iTunes (that was rarely and some time ago) it was an .M4P file and I could play it but not convert it to MP3 using iTunes or anything else.

if you burn the song to a cd and rip it in mp3 format (not aac or w/e proprietary format) you should be able to use it on this

it means that it doesn't use a standard usb connection to the player it has more pins on the player side like the ipod does just means you cant grab one of your other usb cables to connect to it.

After my iPod Nano broke after 2 years of daily use, I decided not to go with Apple again. I bought my Fuze from Amazon for about $60, and it's been well worth that.

A great little MP3 Player and having the extra SD slot makes it possible to have up to 36 gigs of space (if you REALLY feel like shelling out for a 32gig SD card...). I won't sing praises of the video player's quality, but for MP3s and radio, I've got ZERO complaints.

Great deal today on Woot.

scored 2 of these for my kids when they were $32.99. gave them for christmas. working fine and are a great value for the price. you can pick up a wall charger for $8.99 on ebay. one caveat........does not come in fancy packaging and no manual is included. you can download manual onto usb flash drive and give as part of the gift. that's what i did.
