out go the lights...
so if I have Sprint I can't use this. So I need to work with a carrier to get this crappity scaffolding on their network, without a contract. Sounds like I need a contract anyways.

Just get a new one with contract for $99 and cancel the contract immediately for $200

Save $80 and no refurb

badboypolar wrote:That's alot of mooolah for an old refurb phone. Aren't the new ones cheaper then that?

These exact phone are $99 at AT&T, but require 2 years of your life.

Well... technically this phone is actually cheaper than new, because the $99 price is only possible due to the absurbly large subsidy that AT&T pays Apple for each phone sold.

AT&T then turns around and builds that subsidy cost into your monthly bill. You actually would wind up paying more than the phone's actual value over the course of a subsidized 2 year contract.

Sacha Segan at PCMag can explain the subsidy thing better than I can: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2356098,00.asp

The thing I'm not sure about is what would happen when you took this phone to AT&T and tried to get a plan for it. They didn't have to pay the subsidy, so they *SHOULD* charge you less every month... but somehow I have a feeling they would just charge you the same as if you got the "$99" new one and just gorge themselves on the extra profit.

Someone from Woot Purchasing must have been drinking when he approved this purchase.

At this price we are going to be stuck on this for a few weeks.

Unless they only bought 5 ;)

Unless your jailbreak it/unlock it. Which isn't very hard. Then you can use it on any network that uses SIM cards. My Iphone is on T-Mobile.

You have to turn the phone back in if you cancel before a certain date. I think it might be 90 days?

It cannot be used on other carriers. The iphone is exclusive to AT&T. You might be able to use the phone part on another carrier, but nothing else will work.

You keep it, you just pay the cancellation charges. I've already checked since AT&T leaps into the vacuum.

Mine is currently in iPod mode as I can't afford the data plan on the phone. ATT requires the data plan if you use the phone, so I pulled my SIM and stuck it in a cheapo Go-phone.

o0.. obviously you did not realize that by calling at&t after signing up for the data plan that you can simply keep cell service for $30 a month and cancel just data.. I did it with no issues so don't say you can't.

Nope, won't happen. It usually only happens once every 45 days or so, usually in a woot off. But once in awhile on a special day. IE Christmas, Woots anniversary..etc.

Of you cancel within 30 days you do have to return the phone Apple charges a 10% restocking fee on opened boxes. However you do not have to pay a termination fee.

If you cancel after 30 days you get to keep the phone but have to pay the termination fee.

AT&T new policy is to require a data plan on any smart phone. so if they know you have an Iphone, they won't let you cancel the data portion. My wife got the iphone, and I was going to stick my sim into her old blackjack. but they wouldn't allow it without activating a data plan for it.

I read Apple's refurbed Iphones and Touch's are actually new but in different packaging without all the accessories.

I swapped out a Touch once under warranty at a Apple store. The guy pulls the drawer open and it was stuffed full of new Touch's but in generic packaging. Those are considered Apple's refurb's. If you buy a refurb off apples website you get the same stuff they swap out at the apple store.

The price does seem high but if you under contract and you need a new iphone then I guess this would fit the bill.

Most likely the person that did this for you has since been fired. It is against AT&T policy to disable Data on an iPhone.

And yes, I used to work in Business Sales for AT&T.
