Does this mean you can't edit the raw video with Premiere, Vegas, etc?

Maybe because they didn't even review it?
(it was just talked about by forum members, not Steves Digicams, and the website doesn't even bother listing that brand in their review site)

You'll be hard pressed to find many professional reviews on Aiptek cameras.

I completely wrote off the brand a while ago when they were advertising 5-6MP cameras as 10...the signal is interpolated from 5 to 10MP.

It's been 20 years, I am going to copy that floppy.

Can anyone recommended generic cheap battery and Charger for this Camcorder?
I heard most of generic batteries are not compatible anymore (It Seems Samsung put security on camcorder on newer models)

Actually, that's a USB cable, though it should come with a component HD hookup (and the remote, of course).

A question for anyone else who's gotten theirs and happens to come all the way back here: I've noticed that you can record with the screen closed, but only if you start it really quick, before the lens cover closes and the camera goes into sleep mode or whatever. This makes one-handed operation a little tricky and the remote about as useful as car stereo remote. You can turn the screen around and close it, lcd-side out, at the expense of durability, but I was wondering if anyone had come up with a more elegant solution.

We never stated that you would receive an HDMI cable, but we did say that is has a mini HDMI port on the camera.

I received everything listed (HDMI says not included on the manual). I am currently having the described issues from earlier in the thread. My first issue is filming at 1080i, youtube DOES NOT LIKE IT. Comes out like this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBnt_N7yhw8 (the video seems down at the moment but it's all F-ed up. I did some research, it's because youtube doesnt like interlaced video (from this camera at least) to fix you must convert to 1080p using whatever software might do that (havent tried yet) or downgrade to 720p (looks great IMO).

Although...when uploading to 720p it comes out like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qssjv5TaXYM

Squished. So, I'm here to go back at the thread and figure out how to fix this. I dont plan on using the included software, i'll figure something out. I'm at work, but at home I have Adobe Premiere so I'm curious how it handles it during an export..

So, I'm still working on this issue. If I use the Samsung editing software, and export the video it forces you to use 720p, 1080i is not even an option, which is strange. This is the only way I can use Adobe Premier to edit the video, otherwise it's all shaky. Basically I've been unable to upload to youtube, or edit any of the video as long as it's in 1080i.

I exported the 720p from Adobe......in 720....and uploaded to youtube......and the ratio is all messed up on youtube just like when I record in 720p. So it seems that it's impossible to edit/upload in 1080i, and possible to edit in 720p/upload in 720p but youtube squishes the video. There must be something that can be done because youtube is filled with 1080i and 720p videos from this exact camera and I've been unable to find a solution ANYWHERE on youtube....if someone learns something please PM me, or post it here.. or emails

I have Premiere Pro 2.0. I used the Intelli-Studio to convert it to a WMV 1920 x 1080 (16:9 HD). Opened a new project in Premiere. Used the Abobe HDV 1080i 30 preset. Imported the video. I then used Adobe Media Encoder to export it as MPEG2 video, not changing any of the presets. It comes out as a .m2t video. I uploaded it to YouTube and it came out in 1080p. Looks decent I feel. Except for the shakiness since my other daughter was filming.

Here's the vid.

There aren't any 1080i videos on YouTube from this camera that playback properly. Also, I warned you about the aspect ratio issues.

Not with any significant motion it isn't. For recording wakeboarding(or the like) I'll take the 1280x720 any day of the week.

I think the best way to go is to record in 720p, and use the program Handbreak to resize the dimensions that youtube has a problem with. All you need to do is turn off anamorphic, uncheck "keep aspect ratio" and resize the video back to 1280 x 720. Then go to the video tab, and change the bitrate to whatever you desire. I kept it the same as the original video (right click video on computer, hit properties, last tab will show you all the details.

This is been the easiest way to get the videos on youtube, that i've noticed. The quality is pretty much perfect to the original, and doesnt seem to be much worse than 1080i.

1080i through the recommended adobe solution above. Not the same video so it's hard to compare, but the 720p through handbreak looks better than the adobe mpeg2 solution at 1080p.

Hi, if you're shooting at 720p, it is possible to upload the files to YouTube straight from the SD card. Just add the following youtube tag "yt:stretch=16:9" to your uploaded video so it doesn't look squished. Hope this helps.

Ex.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDHGNeg1VVI

Looking forward to trying out the time lapse mode...

Another thing.

720 is defiantly the way to go, but if you need to do any converting, use Handbreak, it lets you change EVERYTHING. Great, free program, deinterlacing, aspect ratios, filters, etc. Very awesome.

On that note I'm still having some issues. I can't find ANY file format/config that adobe premiere likes immediately. Everything I import comes in redlined, needs to be rendered, and even then, doesnt seem to look like full 720, either it lags, or something.

I'm really not happy about having to render every clip I import before i can view it (and thats if it will even play right). If anyone can give me advise on what format to export your videos to, how you did it, how you edited it in Premiere, and any other tweaks or tricks I would be very very happy.

When I get this all sorted out (oh i will) I'll be posting a detailed blog about this, to help others in the future (plus have a reference for myself later as well).

Maybe this camcorder only good for Outdoor Bright noon only. NOT INDOOR AT ALL !!

You won't find a good low-light camera at your price level. Personally, I ended up going for the Canon HF-100. It at least has a small light for close-up shots at night.

I could play the videos fine just right from the folder after I plugged it in. You just need the right codec. I always install codec packs with each of my computers, and have windows 7. I haven't even put their cd into my computer, probably never will. I will just convert with Premier etc. The battery lasts only an hour if you are shooting straight video for an hour, but I quite frankly never do that. The indoor video is only grainy in poorly lit rooms usually at night, and everyone said that anyway. For 200 bucks you just simply can't get anything comparable to this. Sure the Canon Vixia HF200 is a much better camera, but it is also over twice as much.

I'm assuming I have to contact Samsung directly if I want to replace the cables? The cable that has the three video plugs and 2 audio plugs you plug into the tv for audio and video, the video side of it doesn't work so I get no image on the tv, and neither does one of the sound plugs.

Thanks for advise. I downloaded the codec and it works right away from my folder but still pain in the ass if I want to convert to DVD/edit with other software. I decided to sell this and get different camcorder with easy format.
