I'd perhaps ask Josephus- he knows a lot about woodworking so might have an excellent suggestion. But my suggestion would be red cedar or redwood

The problem being...we're in our 60s. It's no longer as easy to clean and stain the deck, especially this size. And the cost of having someone do it every few years is high.

Not to be insensitive, but don't you have sons? or sons-in-law? I agree replace the deck, but can't they help until then?

They coullllld. But it would be like pulling teeth. One of them, his house is falling down around him. Too lazy to do the fixing. The other...about the same.

Sadly I have to admit mine is falling apart too, but it's more a funds issue rather than a lazy issue, can't fix what I don't have the parts for.

woohoo! And lots of presents tomorrow!

I'm thinking tomorrow will start my birfday week. One shower, birfday midweek, another shower next Saturday, which I'm not invited to and GEG has to fly to even get to the place.

Morning all.

Happy Friday!

Tomorrow, internet/cable will be connected, so yay! Though I don't have a TV yet, I'll at least be able to go online.

And I'm now down to 3 boxes of various 'gear' that will need to be sorted through, reduced and repacked, 3 boses of kitchen 'stuff' that needs the same treatment, a box of cd/dvds that will be repacked into smaller boxes to make them easier to move (though the cd's might just get burned and sold). Oh, and the quilting stuff to pull out, organize and start working on.

Still waiting on furniture.

My speech is not parsing. I am speaking in ellipsis.

We had one "couples" shower when we got married. Was actually pretty fun. Lots of friends, both guys and gals in attendance. And since it's also becoming a lot more common for guys to help with the gift registry, it's not like you're just there opening girlie gift after girlie gift.

(I even had some super cool friends that got the tools and Legos I snuck into our regisrty!)

And a good morning to all the EBWPWA's out there!

At least at couple showers, they usually don't expect the silly games.

Wow.
Someone in the family a fireman?
When do you leave and how long will you be gone? Are you taking us with you or will you be unplugged?
Did you tell us daughter was sick?

More and more of the bridal showers are dispensing with the games, too. For which I for one am extremely grateful.

When we're friends or relatives of the groom, I like finding things on the registry for them and usually go for that.

I do believe I might be jealous of your weekend! sounds like it's going to be a great one!

And on the note of couples showers, people tend to bring the more manly gifts to those, and stuff that the man clearly registered for.

I've not been to a bridal shower in a very long time, but that's wonderful to hear. I tended to send a gift and avoid the actual shower for that very reason.

The closest I've seen to games at recent showers was a secret word thing. You wore a ribbon with 5 small ornaments. You tried to get someone else to say the word in conversation. If they did, you took one of their ornaments. The person with the most at the end won a prize. Not too bad.
