Didn't read through all the comments but if it hasn't been posted yet, this is a link to the motherboard page. Should answer most people's questions about ports and such.

Yes, the prices are great, but with today's economy I wish Woot would offer some under $50 items more often. Even the Woot-off today - every time I've checked in - has been another computer. Sigh...

You just know they're going to follow this with some $500 knives. Assuming this thing ever ends.

Well that explains why all the refurbs. ASUS had a problem with this motherboard and the SATA connectors. I had to replace mine, 2 months out of warrantly. I believe they got it fixed.

If it were me, I would add a new power supply and a new video card. But I would definitely buy a new case as well. Nothing real fancy, just something with better ventilation. Those stock cases get hot real quick. You could really have a nice machine for under 700 bucks.

Last time I bught an HP from Woot, I was not able to upgrade the power supply due to the BIOS not being able to see recognize the new PS. There was no BIOS upgrade avaiable, so I was stuck. I would check BIOS version and see if there is an upgrade first...

Just my 2 cents...

BIOS has nothing to do with the Power Supply. There is nothing for the BIOS to recognize.

This seems like a good deal on a decent system though HP has never been high on my list. Question though, isn't 5400 RPM a tad, uh, stoopid for a HD? Does the 8 gig of RAM compensate for the slow spinnin'?

I don't really keep up with the stuff these days but 5400 always used to be considered pretty pointless - anyone got any thoughts on why 5400 would be adequate for a nongaming home PC?

I have a potentially stupid question: Can I uninstall windows 7 from the crappy 5400 RPM HD and put it on a 10k RPM HD and use the 5400 HD for backup?

I've never actually bought a computer with a pre-loaded operating system, so I'm not sure how this works.

You may be able to create an image of the HD and transfer it to a new drive. Or you can install a fresh copy of 7 on a new drive and format the old for a backup.

Yes you can use the 5400 rpm as a slave. I did it with mine. You just have to set the order in BIOS.

Mr70Mopar wrote:Integrated chipset allow COD Modern Warfare to play?

No way. You could throw a decent GPU in here (like a used 8800 GT on Craigslist) but then you'd have to upgrade the Power Supply to something half-way decent.

In short:
To play modern games you would need to do both a PSU Upgrade and throw a GPU in the PCI-E slot.

My dad's been looking for a new computer for his home office. I sent him this link and he bought it since he was considering more expensive computers from HP with lower specs. So, I did my part this Woot-off, now I can complain about items like this moving too slow. You're welcome, Woot.
