I <3 my neighbors that have these.
The world would be a nicer place on weekends in suburbia if everyone had one.

These things are awesome. My neighbor has one and I have mower jealousy. You can't even tell when this thing is going, it's so quite.

How do these work in real-world situations. Is it as effective as other similar type models sold in big box warehouse stores?

Also - how loud is the motor?

This things are great for the environment and the wallet. The cost is about the same price of the gas guzzler yardman we bought a few years ago.

And if you're lucky, maybe I'll do it again next week.

It doesn't stink because it's not gas, and unlike normal electric mowers, you don't have to watch out for the bright orange cable all the time. Oh, and it's very quiet.

All around a win win win--you should get one because I don't have a lawn.

Never hurts to have a spare battery, find one on Amazon

Bought one of these last year. Works fine. Though Consumer Reports says there are better values in battery-powered mowers.

The link to the manufacture's site also links to replacement parts - a spare battery costs $129.

I have one and it has a narrow cut path and therefore requires more passes and time. The battery doesn't give enough time for the front and back lawn to get done.

Just like my Civic hybrid, which gets good mileage but has poor get up and go, this mower lacks power.

Pro - No gas fumes

Con - Not for any decent size yard or thick grass!

That's just cute, I'd name him Newt. The Roomba and Robomower have names too.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. - Unknown

How big is the grass catcher?

It takes me over an hour to mow my ~1/6th of an acre of lawn so not sure how the manufacturers can mow twice that area in an hour.

Does anybody have any real world experience on how long the battery will last when fully charged?

missellienc

I said this the last time Woot had it for sale.... Don't mow wet grass or it will clog up and it's kinda heavy to push if you have sloped property. It also clogs up in heavy fescue grass. I think it would work well if you have a small, level lawn.

Does that mean the battery is also refurbished? Which also means the battery probably not going to last up to 5 yrs? Very skeptical about this lawn mower's performance. Does anyone own one?

I have the 14" version CE 5 with the string trimmer attachment.
Our local electric utility partnered with the California Air resources Board to offer these for CE 5 =$269 and the CE 5 =$169. I had to trade in a gas mower for the deal (a friend had an old one that didn't work). I couldn't pass that up. It is very quiet. It is a little weak on thick grass, but overall with my small lawn, I like it, and really like the string edger/trimmer.

BONUS=Coupon Code=NLMC1 Here is a coupon that should get you 30% Off an extra Battery CE 6 $129 discounted to $90.30 and/or the Trimmer/Edger $84.95 discounted to $59.47. Coupon only works for Battery and/or Trimmer/Edger. This was offered during the special promotion a couple months ago for online orders-Shipping was free, but only free for these items, not any other non discounted accessories--Good Luck

I have this, and actually used it today. Here is my low down on it:

First pro, I'm a girl and I'm not afraid to use it. I know that might sound stupid, but I don't want to touch the gas mowers because I'm afraid I'm going to break them with the gas and the oil and the pull start and the parts. This thing is easy, drop the battery in and go.

Second pro, its quiet. I love that I don't need to have ear plugs on with it and its not shuttering all over the place.

Third pro, its lightweight. Well, light enough for me to push it, and since I have a lower back problem this was a concern of mine. I can get the mower out and around without the battery in it, put the battery in it when its in the yard and then be good to go. It was a nice selling point for me.

Forth pro, the battery charges faster than it says it does. So even though it DOES run out fast (cons below) it will recharge in an hour or two, not 24 like it says. We have about a good 1/2 acre of land and, if I don't let the grass get out of control, I can easily do it in two charges.

First con, the man wants to get it all done in one swipe. It is annoying that if you've got an actual "lawn" that you're going to have to stop and recharge and maybe finish the next day or later in the afternoon.

Second con, you drain the battery much faster if the grass is super tall or wet. It'll go down to nothing in an instant. You have to stay on top of it.

Third con, its not a manly machine and the guy next door might make fun of you. (maybe thats why I mow the lawn more now???)

I'm happy to answer any "real world" questions I can!!!

Two years ago I broke my neck and then picked up mono in the hospital while recovering. It has taken a LONG time to get any energy back. I used to love to mow our little back yard, but I never had the strength to pull the starter on our regular mower. That's why I've been thinking about this mower. But, at 69 lbs. is it too heavy to push or since it's electric does it kind of "drive itself" along while you steer?

Thanks for helping this 30 year old gal not feel 60!

I've got a NEUTON® CE 5 and one charge I can get all the lawn cut. The only issue is that it's only got a 14" blade. Takes forever to cuz all of the lawn. I've got a end house on the street so I'm surrounded by grass! All that said it does the job for me. It just requires more pushing back and forth. If your lawn looks like a the amazon then this thing won't work. It doesn't have the power to chop it all down. When my parent's gas guzzling mower dies I'll get a bigger one and pass the small one to them to use.

My local utility company offers trade your gas mower and get this for much cheaper $269 plus tax. So it's cheaper than woot but you'd lose your gas mower.

I would not say that it "drives itself", but I can tell you that I have herniated disks in my lower back and have radiating leg pain down both legs that has stopped me from doing a lot in life, and I find pushing this mower for the time it takes to run out the battery is not a trouble.

Hope that helps!

My neighbor owns one of these and I've seen it in action. It's great if the noise of a gas powered mower bothers you but it lacks the power of the typical gas 6 or 7 hp engine. Moreover, there is no power to the wheels...you do the pushing. My property, much like that of my neighbor, is filled with uneven grading and pushing that mower up hill is a job and a half! I'll stick to gas, thank you.
