I just opened my iPod touch, it showed up in good condition with little to no scratches anywhere. Thanks Woot!

Obviously I am very disappointed with Woot at this point. Do I have to attempt to return this through Woot or can I return it through Apple?

I had lines in the touch screen whenever I used it and the whole screen would just get all distorted after using it so I took it to the apple store and had a genius bar person look at it since I checked on the apple site and seen that it was still under warranty when I put in the serial number. Apple said it needed to be replaced and they just replaced it cause I was still in the warranty. The new Ipod is working great. So if it still isn't working right just go to apple to get it fixed or replaced.

ps. This is also the case for military orders.

pps. Only a small percentage of our items are shipped by our vendors so this does not come up *that* often. To give an idea- it's usually the more expensive (like this one) or bigger items that are shipped by our vendors (that's not a rule for all expensive/big items, but rather my observation on what seems to be vendor-shipped most often).

May I ask when Woot started this practice ? I have been around a while and was unaware of this.

Not in anyway mad or disappointed, just curious.

Received mine earlier today with no prior notification from Woot.

It is in, what seems to be, perfect condition.
Took it out of the case and no scratches anywhere.
Had a 3/4 charge already so I started playing with it.
Perfect.
Synced to my iTunes without a problem.
Works wonderfully.
Nephew is gonna love it for his birthday tomorrow.

Yeah, mine is also coming from N.J., with same ETA. I ordered it on 5/2, so I was surprised at the lengthy delivery time. However, on the FedEx site, they have a disclaimer about the floods in Tennessee causing delays in deliveries. I will try my luck at the Apple Store if the screen is messed up...that was sweet about the warranty covering the defect;
(I just hope I don't have to)

The thing was so scratched up that the apple on the back was almost gone. Talk about feeling like a putz. These should have been described better, as used and rated as "scratch and dent" or some other warning.
This is poor business. I guess I have to ask him for his gift back. Although return policy
is only for NON-Working, Not beat up.

I checked out some skins that will cover the body of the iTouch, plus there are several nice hard and soft(gel)cases; all of these options should do the trick for covering the
body scratches/dents. Don't forget the screen savers as well, you can buy them everywhere cheap. All is not lost...the skins are cool
to boot!

My Woot email arrived today notifying me the products had shipped. I chuckled when I read, "Please note that it may take up to 24 to 48 hours for tracking information to be available from the shipping company."

I'm thinking they should send out an initial "received order" email that says, "Please note it make take up to 72 hours for us to notify you we've already shipped your product."

:-)

I got my ipod, no scratches on front, back has very minor scratches. It's currently syncing to itunes. screen looks bright, no lines as mentioned in previous post. the only thing that worried me was it was shipped in a bubble wrap. no box, just bubble wrap, 2 pieces of the plastic case was broken. which now that i think about it could have caused the scratches on the back. I entered the serial number into apples web site to check the service and support and it showed up as an 8gig 2ND Generation ipod, not a 3rd generation as advertised. I understand there is no hardware difference between the 2nd and 3rd generation 8 gigs, but I would like to recieve what i thought i was buying. one good thing is that apple limited warrenty is covered thru december 25, 2010.

Awesome! Thanks woot! What is funny is that it came from Keasby, NJ. Keasby is in my township. so it went from Keasby location to Keasby fedex to the Avenel fedex (also in my township) then out to my house took 2 days. I could have drove there to pick it up lol. then the day after I got it, I got the fedex tracking information. LOL.

I just got mine today. It looks in perfect condition, charged up just fine and even synced with everything. Problem is that it doesn't work. I use the touch screen and nothing happens. Physical buttons work fine, but touching the screen does nothing after about 5 seconds... so I can unlock it and that's about it. I tried restoring it, that didn't work either. Who should I contact about this Woot or Apple?

Thing is, there is NO such thing as a 3rd Generation 8gig iPod Touch.
The REAL 3rd Generation iPod Touch is 32gig and 64gig only.

To avoid/or cause more confusion, some people advertise the iPod Touch 8gig WITH LATEST FIRMWARE as 3rd Generation (Because iPod touches, official firmware upgrades cost money to update). But it is still incorrect since the 3rd Generation actually has faster CPU and stuff.

Also Best buy does it too, this week's Best Buy ad says "8GB iPod touch 3rd Generation" $199.99

I'm in the same boat, not gonna lie, it's really frustrating. They had told me that the products had to be shipped to the woot guys and then to me because i put a PO box. But has there been any other communication other than that after i asked how long it would take? No, in fact i wouldn't have even found out had i not looked a the forum. I just want to know what the status is of my order, but is there a way to find out? No there is not.

The length of time it takes for an item to get back to us and then be sent out depends on the vendor. Usually they go out to us along with their FedEx shipments to our customers. Based on where they are located, it can take up to 4 days to get to us. From there, we are usually able to ship to PO Boxes/military addresses that day or the next.

Looks like Apple updated their pricing.
They now list the 8Gig iPod touch (Current Gen) (same as this woot) to $149, 1 year warranty:

I took it to the Apple Store and it turns out it has water damage... something that not covered under the warranty and would cost $99 to replace. I was told that Woot Customer Service is great, so I hope I can get this resolved without too much trouble.

It says on that page that it's a limited time price (for what that's worth.) Plus, with tax it ends up costing more than this WOOT, so don't sweat it.

Heh, my pleasure.

I'm just a little annoyed myself that WOOT sold the 32GB iPod exactly a week after the 8GB one; I mean, I went with the 8GB because it was cheap and I had no idea I'd like the thing, but now I definitely would've just gone with the 32GB 3G one despite the extra cost. I don't think I've ever been genuinely frustrated with WOOT before like I am now....

Got my 2 ipods delivered. One works, one turned on and went black when iTunes tried to update the software. Dead. It's a brick. Lovely. Typed in my serial number at apple and it says limited warranty but no date, it wants a receipt for further assistance. I already have an email into Woot, I hope to hear something ASAP. This is for my kids so they'll leave my iPhone alone. My son is upset and so am I. This better be covered by their 90-day warranty. C'mon Woot, contact me quick!

Mine arrived in perfect "like new" condition. I'm extremely happy since this was my first woot purchase I just submitted a copy of my receipt to Apple via the registration site for the warranty.

Update: I received email response from Apple:
"After reviewing the proof of purchase, we have approved your request to update the date of purchase. Effective immediately, the purchase date for your iPod in our records is: 5/2/2010" and it is now showing a one year warranty.

My iPod does not work either, seems touch screen doesn't like me, and sometimes it stays on for 5 seconds and then shuts off. AND... if I do get lucky to get to work, it shuts off and still plays music. Have an appt. at apple store to have them look at it. ALSO, serial # stated that it was a 2nd gen. iPod not 3rd like this site said... disappointed.

If you have received a defective iPod, please conact us at service@woot.com. Depending on the quantity we have available, we will send you a replacement iPod.

You can tell what Generation your iPod by how many lines of text are on the back of the unit. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353#iPod_touch_late2009

The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

To be more clear, it appears there would never be an 8 gig model number A1318.
