These are great for a starter system, but if you are looking for something that will not be obsolete, get yourself a nice onkyo receiver paired with a set of their speakers.

I'm in the market for a 1000 watt system.

I use my PS3 for Blu ray disks and gaming and everything else..

Should I hold out for one that has an HDMI in?

To err is human, to woot is divine.

I'm confused on how a 1000-Watt system is rated to draw 180 watts of power? Is the output rating somehow not the same as a typical watt unit of power?

This will play DVDs and take only a couple audio sources in. THAT'S IT.

Yes, I recently purchased a theater in a box setup similar to this and loved it at first. Then I noticed that the 5.1 is not true surround, and the 1000 watts is either in a different impedance, or you cannot get those 1000 watts because of poor speakers. My system that was advertised at 1000 watts had the surround speakers at 30 watts max and sub at 50, so how they calculate the 1000 watt is beyond me.I am giving mine to my parents, and purchased a Onkyo sr607.

If you are expecting a increase from your TV speakers and want the feel of explosions, get this. But if want true HD sound, Crisp clear sound, and More power at your fingertips, look elsewhere

Yes, you should definitely get something that has an HDMI in. Most of the new receivers out there will have a few HDMI in to connect all your HD equipment and then just a single HDMI needed to go to your TV.

I am glad they added the additional photo of the packaging. I really needed to know that it comes in a generic brown box that says Philips on it.....thanks woot.

The purpose of an amplifier is to receive a small electrical signal and enlarge or amplify it. The "1000-Watts" is only at peaks
