I've been checking woot since 2007 and this was my first time actually getting a Bowl of Cereal. You may have a point if they stayed on sale for more than 10 seconds and autobuyers didn't eat up half the stock before you even have a chance at them.

So, ever since I started following Woot (before I even joined), and I learned about the mythical Book of Crap, I saw pictures of this Crap that showed a brown paper bag, with a big yellow question mark on it. Ever since then, I assumed the crap came in a big brown paper bag with a yellow question mark on it.

However, much to my dismay, they do not. Whenever I received my first Book of Crap last December, it came in a boring old box.

Why Woot!? Why?

Remember, that "Bag of Сrаp" is the name by which it is often referred is not the name of the item you buy. You bought "Random Сrаp". And as such, it is not supposed to come in the bag. That said, commandments do guarantee you some kind of a bag plus three items.

The included bag is often some sort of boring camera case, sometimes "Woot limited edition bucket", or a picnic basket. At times they indeed send you a genuine paper bag with a question mark. And very rarely it's a really unique and amazing kind of bag, such as one I got last time around.

So, can someone tell me something... I got a Bowl of Cereal and also got a screaming monkey. I received shipping notification for the screaming monkey, but am assuming that it is coming in the Bowl of Cereal since my Bowl of Cereal is showing a weight of 20lbs. (The heaviest I have received yet)... Is that usually how they do it? Send the screaming monkey with the Bowl of Cereal?

I've ordered monkeys and bocs from wootoffs in the past and they were always shipped separately. Although, they usually arrive on the same day even though they ship days apart.

My monkeys from this wootoff have already shipped. I just checked fedex track by reference for my crap and came up with nothing, so the craps have probably not shipped yet. As previously discussed in this thread, the 5th day for this crap is Friday, so don't expect them to ship before then.

RealtorKen wrote:I never understood this debate... It's almost like people purchased their box of carcinogens instead of their weekly groceries. The way I look at it is, $8 bucks I get what I get. My last box of carcinogens I was blessed to receive a completely useless 40 pound broken garage door opener set up. 1 item...a useless item at that, no bag no 2 other items but for $8 I got what I paid for PARC.

Those people that ask the woot gods to provide that 3rd item or a "bag" need to wake up and understand that they are not going to magically get a plasma TV. These people are going to get and have received in the past the same old fillers everyone else received.

I wish I could properly verbalize how I feel... To me it's almost like giving a gift to someone, and them having a look of disappointment or disgust on their faces. FINE,NEXT TIME I WON'T GIVE YOU A GIFT!

$8....

It is not that way at all, when I was short a bag, they sent me a brown paper bag with a ? on it. I display it proudly at work, as a testimonial to great customer service.

The times I've been short anything, I've e-mailed Woot customer service and listed what I got. I've also made it clear that they are by no means required to send anything else, and the mistake is likely on my part in not understanding what constitutes 3 items plus a bag. Customer service has always been wonderful about responding. The replacement items I got were not filler items. I was expecting filler, or worse, pine needles from the Woot holiday tree in a zip lock bag.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Woot rocks.

I put up an item from each crap I've gotten. So far, I have on the shelf:
? Bag
Kirk Vinyl Figure
Hypochondriac Stress Ball
Flying Aces Model (From the Dec 9th, where I was short 1 item.)
Yani in Words
Mother Goose LP
Westren Cowboy Set

To me, if you've been "shorted" a bag or third item and Woot "replaced" the missing item(s) then they were being very kind and threw you a bone.

But I could be wrong.

My last Box Of Cats was a single item: a Multi-function printer/scanner/copier

I'm afraid I am about to spoil your holiday, so if you want to spend your Memorial Day in piece, don't read the rest of this post...

.

.

.

Ok, here's the spoiler: Later, when the numbers are going to start showing, I'll post a more complete guide, but for now, if you want to be the first to know (sometimes numbers are not e-mailed right away), go to FedEx track by reference site and enter:
- Your order number with WOOT into big reference number box
- United States in Country dropdown
- Your zip code in respective field

Then click track. Now you have something to keep refreshing every few minutes! As soon as Woot transmits package data to FedEx, or actual shipments start going out you'll see your tracking number along with the status right there!

And yes, I doubt it is actually going to happen today (or until Friday, based on the hints from Woot Gods earlier in this thread), but you can still hope and keep refreshing it, just so that you don't lose your F-Fiving skills over the holiday!

Yeah, I pretty much did that all day yesterday :P. I already knew about the track by reference, but knew that nothing would show up because of the holiday.

It is now the day after the holiday and I shall resume refreshing like a madman! I love crap bags.

+5 signature of epicness!

I mis-spoke when I said the Bowl of Cereal was 20lbs. The shipping is only showing the screaming monkey shipped, not the Bowl of Cereal. The screaming monkey is showing 20lbs, which I figure can't be right... lol

Correct. They were originally called Bag O' Crap but changed to Random Crap sometime ago. I was fortunate enough to get in on Bag O' Crap II in September 2004 (different account). Back then priority pucks were all the rage. I did get a nice camera bag for my DSLR that I used for several years. And Bag O' Crap II didn't break the internet either. It didn't sell out until about 7:00am EST.

LOL, back in the day, I didn't cruise the forums. I had no idea what this bag of crap was and so there were a couple of cases where I didn't buy it even though I could have.

any way to tell where you were in the order line like sale 1 = 123451 sale 2 = 123452 etc.

Just curious to see where I fall in the line of 3000 lucky buyers.

I swear this felt like one of the longest bocs up and I dont know if it's because I got in on it or if it's because it was like double the normal amount.

Um, yeah, you might want to check your order number.

Even assuming the lowest number is 30230195 (based on order numbers put in) only 3000 were sold, so that would put us at a max of 30233195. 302339XX is outside that range, did something weird happen (like you were in line or such?)

The order number for the 5/26 Bowl of Cereal (Site says 5/27 though??) is correct.

"on 5/26/2010, you successfully wooted.
order 302339xx"

I do know, when I put my order in, I hit the second confirm button then the server looked like it died, I never saw the confirmation screen. And a little while later I received a confirmation email on my order.

Directly from my email, and I'm in Central Time:

According to woot, it sold out a mere 5 minutes earlier, so... no idea why it appears to be out of sequence.

My purchase experience was very odd on this one. I had awesome luck getting pages to load and getting to the big buy it button. But on attempts 1-4 I kept getting payment errors. I put my cvv in correctly and everything else was fine, I suspect their payment system was having issues. On my 5th and 6th time, it dropped me back to the item page. I never saw the "order is in" page. I figured I was 50/50 on actually getting my order in. A while later it showed up on my account page and an email showed up. I don't know if I got lucky with someone else's order screwing up or if I got in right the first time. Either way.. I got it. Yeehaw.

Here is the thread that introduced the avatars.

But, the short answer is; yes, you can change your avatar. Click on your name at the top of the page. Then click on change avatar. There is an option of five preselected just for you or you can use your current avatar from either Facebook, Twitter, or Gravatar.
