I wouldn't be, though I too use chrome and haven't seen that before. Most likely, there's an ad on your page that has a java script running (meaning it's a busy ad with moving/flashing) and it's fighting the ad blocker. You're stopping the ad blocker, so you might see an advertisement you'd otherwise avoid.

And yay, smaller bandaid!

Hmm. Looks like it's a common problem with firefox...there's scripting in adblocker that runs if you use chrome and for some reason it's being run in FF, and causing problems. From what I can see, verify that you have the most current version of adblockerplus--that has resolved it for some.
