d'name - I think it is possible to get over the Hudson. At least it used to be several years ago when I did it once. Google says you still can as well, just have to be willing to drive across Manhattan. So, tolls it is then.

cruzer - congrats on the new washer. from everything I've read, you really do need the HE detergents for front loaders. something to do with how it doesn't suds as much, and rinses away with less water.

Hi Turken!

I watched about the first ten minutes of the load I did last night (this was before I was told not to use the detergent we have) and it does use a lot less water but it also takes much longer. It'll be interesting to see how long the motor lasts. The thing switches directions every 3 rotations, just about.

so what kind of washer did you end up with anyway? the best part of watching is when it hits the high spin cycle. Amazing it can move so fast and yet still be so quiet and smooth.

we always leave the door (and detergent tray) open until things dry out, and haven't had any smell issues yet.

If wet clothes are left in accidentaly for a while and an odor develops, Tide makes some stuff to get the stank out.

I was actually just at Home Depot looking at that stuff. We'll look into it whenever the washer starts smelling a little funny.

Our washer door won't stay open "just a little." We keep a tennis ball between the door and keep the dispenser open. We've had no problems.

I'm guessing you don't have an entire room dedicated to the washer and dryer like we do. We can leave ours wide open all the time if we need to.

Ours is in the basement. And I don't know why we don't leave it wide open. Does it stay open by itself?

Yeah. Ours stays where ever you want it to be, for now. Maybe your washer isn't level? I dunno.
