Awwww, that takes all the fun out of it. I love me the smell of some WD-40 overspray!!

I don't think WD-40 would be good for dog clippers. I work for Andis Company which makes those clippers, and our oil is like a 3-in-1 lubricating oil. WD-40 isn't a lubricating oil. It's closer to a penetrating oil, but it's best used for cleaning purposes. I wouldn't use it to lubricate anything; especially not machinery that moves as fast as the blade in an electric dog clipper.

Well ... I'm in for 2/4! Errr .... 24?(actually thought I was gonna get 48, but oh well ;-)

I've been doing some Christmas shopping for a few months now & at the BIG family gathering I'm thinking stocking stuffers!!!

I also have a pretty huge craft shop. Lots of little gadgets will get good use of these pens and I won't have to take them outside anymore!

Thanks WOOT!!

And thanks for the past 10 years. :-}

Time to stock up. In for 36 (3x12)!

Gonna give these out for Halloween as they just cost less than a full Snickers bar.

It's good for cleaning guns, not keeping them oiled but cleaning them. It would be hard to do the barrel with this pen but you can take care of almost everything else. Gets rid of carbon quickly.

Note that they also address the fish oil rumor.

The secret is JB80 is twice as good.I paid $1.20 for a 5.5 oz can of WD-40 at Dollar General. The pens would be worthless to me unless they came with a pocket protector and
nerd glasses.

But WD-40 is NOT a lubricant! It's a water displacer... >:[

Works great on distributor caps. Destroys everything else though with it's uncanny ability to attract dust.

WD-40 can be great, but a common misconception is that it's good at removing rusted bolts/screws. This is FALSE. It can possibly lubricate very lightly rusted screws enough to budge them, but in cases where the rust is heavy, WD-40 is not at all what you want to use. Penetrating oil is made for that.

Just a FYI.

A man walks up to a hot number in a redneck bar and says, "I just got this here WD-40 pen from WOOT and I'm ready to penetrate the first thing I see tonight." She knew exactly what he had in mind. They went out to his car where she cracked 2 of his nuts loose... so that he could finish changing his flat tire. I'll bet you thought... Shame on you.

A little trivia:

WD-40 stand for Water Displacement, 40th Attempt. (It was the 40th time that the chemist had attempted to make a successful anti-corrosion agent.)

It has over 300 uses! Unfortunately, fixing your new iPhone #4 isn't one of them. :[

You need duct tape for that! http://goo.gl/Q5FW

Of course, you're cleaning your hands with something akin to paint thinner. The stuff really is toxic. Just because it doesn't kill you when you use it, that doesn't make it safe or a good idea.

I've been a fan of WD40 - primarily for squeaky door relief. So - presently surprised to see all of the other things it could do, I promptly set about my house to remove double sided tape off the walls. Yes - it does remove the tape - AND THE PAINT!!!! Multiple layers of paint. In fact, I think I'm going to start stripping some woodwork next.

NightGhost wrote:These should be great for oiling the tracks on a garage door opener. The guy who installed mine told me "if everyone used WD-40 once a month, I'd never have to do a repair."

That's interesting, and completely opposite to what my garage door opener person told me.

The "WD" in WD-40 means Water Displacement. WD-40 is NOT primarily a lubricant. See the Wikipedia page for details, but it's designed to keep joints from rusting by keeping water away. Once the volatile compounds evaporate, there's not much lubricating action left (as in the Wikipedia article above, it's only 15% oil - not much unless you really soak things. What that oil does do is to attract and capture dust. It's also a poor lubricating oil for areas that get cold, like my garage in the winter.

A far better spray for your garage door is silicone-based. It's all lubricant, operates over a wide temperature range, and is far more appropriate for the typical garage. That's what my opener dude told me. He's also the one who told me that the WD-40 that I had been using was doing more harm than good.

Silicone spray is cheap and widely available at Home Depot and Lowes.

Woot! Now 100+ woots for me!
That's 87 woots (Including Twelve Bats On Crack!), 12 Sellout.woots, 8 wine.woots and 4 kids.woots, and finally, 2 shirt.woots!

If you really read that MSDS sheet, apply it to the product, and don't get scared off by the jargon it isn't bad at all.

Most of the dangers apply to the pressurized aerosol version of the product with the pressure itself and with its ability to spread tiny particles into the air you're breathing.

It basically says if you use a lot of this stuff in an small, non-ventilated space you may experience some coughing, nose irritation, maybe even a headache and nausea. Overexposure with the pen form of this WD-40, we are talking about putting the pen in a bag and huffing it, or maybe applying it to your entire headboard and sleeping under it. The same can be said for almost any chemical, they can overwhelm your senses.

Overexposure to your skin, it says you may get some dry skin or a possible rash if you repeatedly expose the same area to the WD-40 pen. So we're talking the same as a nail polish remover MSDS.

Eye Contact, don't put the pen in your eyes or get some on your hand and then wipe your eye or it will sting and your eye might tear up. Use the same precautions you would with any household cleaner or chemical.

Ingestion, I'm thinking the only way to get this one is to actually suck on or break open and drink the contents of the pen. Tasty! Dont drink the pen or your stomach will get upset and you might toss your cookies, because your stomach does not want WD-40 in it. Definitely don't put it in your mouth and inhale it, because apparently your lungs are not big fans of this stuff at all.

This is really not bad at all as far as MSDS sheets go, it's very tame. I would bet a supermarket rubbing alchohol MSDS would be the same or slightly worse.

Just use common sense and don't keep it where small children who don't know any better can get at it. Just like anything else.

I've seen all those people in the advertising with hazmat suits on applying it to their rusty scissors, that must have been your first clue as to the extreme toxicity of WD-40.
