all of this P90X talk, infomercials do work. Maybe WooT should through one up at 6am to remind people to check the site for a daily deal.

I'm guilty to, looking at the P90X thinking how fitting it looks. I just wonder if I can get away with a 30 minute workout instead of an hour, partially because I'm a lazy bastard and because with 3 kids, their sports, a 2 hour one way commute and yada yada my day starts at 5am and I get to rest around 9pm... not sure I have the energy for 90 minutes after that. But this isn't about P90X, its about these door frame hangers.

I guess I'm in for one, I'll my coupon so when the wife yells at me for getting another piece of equipment I won't use I can at least say I saved $5. When I get to play a little with it, I just hope it holds up my fat butt. I'm only pushing 260-270, but I'm not as fat as it sounds... well maybe I am... am I?

Let's see the quality impulse buys!

I have this in a different brand and have used for years. We even had to replace some of the rubber grips,as they wore out.

Found better quality grips from an equipment parts company, but again, different brand and after years of use.

A guy I know was hanging by his legs from one of these to do hanging crunches. The bar gave way. He is now a quadriplegic, and is in the process of suing the company.

Just saying, be safe, Wooters.

lmmalone wrote:flying the entire three feet to the ground?! that's awful! Sarcasm aside, unless your door frame is twelve feet up, I don't think this would be a concern. I can barely straighten my legs all the way when I'm at the top of a pull up. And I'm under 5'10"

These rarely fail if you're hanging straight down. The risk of failure is highest when you're exercising and your form breaks down during the last few reps. You tend to swing your legs to add momentum to your pull and while your legs are swinging up, the device falls and you're basically falling head-first into the floor. Make that the back of your head to the floor. I had that happen to me when I was 13 and all I remember is first 8 pull-ups or so and then around 15 minutes later, sitting on the floor wandering what truck hit me while my brother and his friends were still laughing their asses off.

Form matters. Better to do a couple reps less than set a number to do and break form to reach the number.

I highly recommend one if you are going to be serious about working out at home. Pullups are considered a power workout for a reason. The motion requires far more muscles than 95% of all other workouts.

In just a few of weeks after getting one and using it daily, I went from being able to squeeze out 3 pullups to cranking out 20 with relative ease in any hand position. My starting weight was 220lbs and it has held up fine for over a year of hard use. I now weigh 215 and while I do see some flex in the cross brace I have no fear that it will give way. The little foam pads on the ends of the bars however are completely smashed flat even after multiple rotations.

Also be aware of what your door trim is made out of! If it's any kind of pine or other soft wood, this WILL cause dents!!!!! Thankfully I noticed early and moved it to another door with hardwood trim before seriously notable damage was done.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I just bought one a couple days ago off Amazon for $10 more, and it didn't even have the ab straps.

I decided to chance it and go with the ones directly from China, why involve a middle man, sorry Amazon. The Chinese one doesn't come with the ab strap, but the company is throwing in a P91X workout program at no charge which they claim is better then the P90X. I mean, your working out right ... push it, push it, push it... giving your all and your maxed out. Where can go? Nowhere.

This one goes to 11.

P91X - One better then the other guys!

Oh wise Woot owl ... How many licks DOES it take to get to the center? The world may never know.

sartis wrote:I got one of these, and it was a lot of fun. Went from no pull-ups to about 10 in a few weeks, which is a big improvement.

However, it was so convenient to leave it on the door that I found myself using it all the time, and I ended up with carpal tunnel problems. It was give up the computer keyboard or give up the pull-ups, and you can see which I chose.

Why would doing pullups frequently give you carpal tunnel? Does not compute.

interesting juxtaposition -- the ad right underneath the "I want one!" button for the "Iron Gym with Ab Straps" is for Hartford Daily Deals and shows a box of Krispy Kreme donuts.

Maybe it's beating a dead horse at this point, but I’ll join the group saying they use it and like it. And I’ve never seen it for less that $30. And I’ve looked. Gotta love w00t.

I’ve used mine for over a year and no obvious damage to my door frame. I weigh 170. I found a door I could leave it up all the time so it’s easy to use (my bedroom closet), but it's pretty easy to put up and take down too. Door has to be open and have a door frame.

Cheers.

I almost went for one, then I realized that my doors are 10 feet high. I'd need a ladder just to use it. And if I fell, crashola. Oh well.

I bought the Xtreme one about 2 months ago for $25 shipped from Walmart.com (no ab straps). It is a really excellent product. This is just a great product all around, just be sure your door frames will support the bars size (and yours as well). Should hold about 250lbs easily if your door frame can. I would recommend this product for sure. Might be worth comparing to the Xtreme to see if you would like the extra grip positions.

Will this hold my weight? If it came with a video I'll be sold.

shake weight is such a joke/scam. doesn't train your muscles to do anything. its just isometrics and isometrics only strengthen the muscles in that one position. totally stupid!

Diamond is pure carbon. So you're being redundant, except you didn't redundinate the definition!

Me, oh, well, I like Lithium. It comes in little pills and unlike Thorazine it doesn't cause paralysis of the throat muscles so I don't drool all over myself when I'm out in public. They do let me out, you know, on field trips. Though that one time when I was caught peeing on the tree at the park during the picnic, well, I'm not going to tell you what I'm going to do with that psychiatric social worker who caught me...

I've owned one of these for about two years now and even though I haven't used it much for pull ups I have kept it in my closet door frame for sit ups on a daily basis. It's just like there is someone holding your feet and it helps me keep from using my hands or torquing back to raise myself up. Definitely a piece of equipment you'll use.

This may seem like a neat idea and has apparently has worked for many users. However, I see a serious safety hazard. This device appears to depend on the structural integrity of the door moulding. Door moulding is usually held in place by small thin nails (brads). It takes much less than your body weight to rip off the moulding. The only reason why this thing works is that it relies on the shear strength of the nails. If their are enough nails it may actually support you body weight and in many cases it will do so. However, if it does, it is marginally close to failure. Consider what happens if it fails while you are doing pullups. You may catch yourself with only a bruise or two, or you may not, and you may fall in such a way that you get a serious back injury. The only way I would use this device is by drilling holes in the rectangular bar and using lag bolts to secure it to the framing, not the moulding. Convenience is no substitute for safety.
