Even in the video it dosn't look like the paint is being applied evenly. Might be worth a shot for the price though.

I don't know - "DIY" and "Wide"? They sound kinda lonely and pathetic. I'd hold out for the confident and manly "Power Painter Max with Optimus".

I've owned one for a while and personally found it useless. I used it once and never tried it again because it just splatters and is a pain to clean. Maybe good for big rough outdoor jobs like fences or concrete but I haven't done that

Even then, as someone else mentioned it splatters not sprays. Do NOT attempt, for instance, to paint your front door or doors inside. Walls do not come out smooth. Honestly I tried it once and it has sat in the box for 4 years sinc, cuz it's pretty much useless to me.

I recommend you keep your money and rent something better.

Gee... I kinda wanna buy one just to see if it as lousy and cumbersome to clean and everything else wrong with it that most of the reviews state. It can't be any worse than when I was a junior in college and one of my room mates bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner with a spray paint attachment, so one nite we all smoked a few doobies and we painted my VW bus gold. It was actually supposed to be Mellow Yellow like in the song by Donovon but the guy at Sears made it a little too dark. Everything was a mess afterwards, the Kirby, the VW, us, but gol darn we had so much fun and were laughing so hard it didn't make much difference. The only bummer with driving a VW bus in a color like electrical Bannana was the campus police knew my van so I had to keep things cleaner than usual including my mind and body but that is another story for another time. Happy wooting.

I have one of these... purchased when I had to paint a picnic table.

It works ok, but I would only use it outside as there is quite a bit of overspray. Can probably save a lot of work if doing a big fence.

As others mentioned it's a pain to clean, but it's always a pain to clean paint stuff.

Mine has a hose to connect to a paint can. I imagine it will blow through the attached container pretty quick.

I bought a Wagner power painter earlier this year as I'm refurbishing my house and swear by it. Based upon my experience and the product description, here's my take.

Power painters provides a very professional paint job. No roller or brush marks. I painted my garage door and everyone thought I had replaced it and not repainted it. Since the power painter puts out a fine mist, it provides a very smooth and even coat. No way I could have achieved that level of quality with any other methods.

Power painters reduces the amount of paint you use. So 2 or 3 coats equals what a roller would use in one coat. At $25-$30 a gallon, paint ain't cheap.

I also used it to paint the stucco on my 1 story house saving hundreds if not thousands on hiring a painter. Again, the finished product was very professional. Painting the stucco worked out to be a long weekend project.

1. If you are painting indoors, buy a unit rated for indoors or a 'hvlp' model (high volume low pressure). Any of these units reduces the 'paint cloud' that can damage other surfaces. My paint gun was $59 (on sale) at Lowe's. It does not appear that either of these items are a hvlp model.

2. Mixing does take some practice, but does become intuitive after a while (after 5 or so uses). If you are doing a really small job, it may not be worth the hassle of busting out the Wagner. For all other jobs, I recommend a power painter.

3. Cleaning the power painter is the worst part. Both messy and time consuming. Throwing a paint brush or roller away takes 2 seconds. Cleaning a power painter takes 5-15 minutes.

4. Masking and taping. Masking off a room takes very little time. Taping edges takes a very long time, but must be done whether you are painting with a brush, roller or paint gun. I guess there are some who have a very steady hand and an extremely sharp eye that they don't tape edges, I'm not one of them.

5. As for streaks, smears and runs, I have not had any problems, but again I'm using a hvlp model from Wagner that atomizes the paint so that it doesn't come out in globs and chunks. I painted doors and molding outside with no ill effects from the wind, altho gnats are stupid and would always get stuck in the newly painted surface.

You do have to be careful to prevent the tip from clogging (especially when painting outdoors in the heat), but a rag with some pain thinner on it will keep the tips clean.

So there you go. I like my Wagner power painter, but it's a different model than the one that Wootazon is selling.

Warning: I hate this stuff as it eats up all my free time. So if you want to waste a weekend doing work around the house instead of something more enjoyable like going to the beach or sitting on the sofa then get one of these things as you'll find yourself taking on too many projects.

i've got a wagner power roller, and it is much more suited to indoor painting, where you don't want a dusting of paint all over everything. however, as with this, if you've got a bunch of different colors, you're going to spend just as much time painting and then cleaning the device, as you would have just spent painting with a regular roller

I had one of these a few years ago and my experience mirrors that of many Wooters. Thinning the paint to the proper viscosity was a pain, the sprayer was noisy as all get-out, and clean-up took longer than the painting portion of the job. The results were just so-so.

Later, I got a 1/3 hp airless sprayer and used the spray gun for outside work. For large inside jobs, I got a power roller attachment for the airless spray pump. Clean-up was still rough (because I am very picky), but painting was never easier.

I spent over $400 on painting equipment and achieved professional results. Don't expect to do the same for $32.99 + $5 shipping. If you DO buy this item, I wish you the best of luck.

You'd do better with a lot less mess using a good quality roller. Just as fast and better coverage. Sprayers tend to leave irregular surfaces from overlapping or where too lightly applied - called orange peel. Too much and it runs, a bigger pain to correct. Where this would be great is for painting trim before you do the walls. Nice smooth coating and should go quick.

If painting larger areas, it is a must. Great flow, easy to clean. Might need to thin paint at times to pass through nozzle effectively.

It's a piece of crap... total kaka. The amount of time you'll spend fixing the paint that was sprayed on will be really irritating.

I want to reiterate the comment above about the power roller. Now this is a product that has some value. It sucks the paint out of the can and wets the roller with the touch of a button so you're not constantly going back to the tray. This speeds things up considerably and saves your back. On the downside it too is kind of a pain in the arse to clean afterward, you need special rollers and you use a little more paint. I don't use it all the time, but for bigger jobs it is handy.

I bought one of these New in Box at a yardsale a few years ago. Still had the plastic wrap around the box, so it hadn't been messed with.

Piece of junk. You can't use normal paint, you have to water the paint up really thin to be able to get it to work. And it just kinda spits it at the wall, its not like an air powered paint sprayer.

Wouldn't waste your money.

Cleaning was messy, but not that much worse than cleaning rollers and brushes. Actually, I took it in the shower and cleaned the parts and myself at the same time.

If you are thinking about spray painting the outside of your house with thick gooey latex paint, forget this deal. It won't work. I had quotes of $5-6thousand dollars for college boys to paint my house, but I bought a Ryobi "man sprayer" for $249 which generates 3000 psi and I did it myself for $1000, paint included. Now the man sprayer sits in my garage, waiting to be used by my only son when I give him the house. I'm old.

I used one of the sprayers. This seems obvious but if it is windy, you may want to wait. It was somewhat windy I painted anyway, because I took the day off from work, my shingles were painted. I blame myself not the sprayer.

Please don't delete this post, I am trying, honest!

Elox wrote:Save yourself headache and buy a roller. By the time you mask the areas you don't want sprayed, thin the paint enough to get it to spray (requiring extra coats), and clean up the resulting mess, you could have painted the entire area and gone on vacation. As both a former owner (similar model) and paint seller, they ONLY things I would ever recommend these for is very light bodied products like stains or oil-based enamels. They don not work well with waterborne products, especially the newer low-VOC coatings.

Well said. I would only add that using these indoors, even with hearing protection, will make you deaf. These things are loud enough to start an avalanche.
I used one to apply latex stain to a shed with T-111 siding. It was only OK for that. Jackson Pollock might have used one.

I used one to paint the inside of my screened-in back porch. It did a fantastic job, looks great 3 years later. I must have gotten lucky thinning it and dialing the spray in just right though. Yes, cleanup wasn't much fun. The biggest negative is the piston that's actuated from the trigger. They $#@!% BREAK. Talk about a cheaply made part, the bastard is $25 from Buy.com to replace it (best price I can currently find). Here's a link to it:

wear ear plugs when using one of these or a headset. there good for painting a fence but figure on having to spray it twice. unless you want a white wash look. also cleaning is a chore .and they will splatter paint . i wouldn't try painting a room with the unit we own.
as said before you need a set of ear plugs or a headset when using it .i dont think you can get use to the buzzing sound the unit makes.
you get what you pay for and these things are cheap.
never try using waterseal or deck stain in this unit .i really dont think it work after and it make a larger mess then you care to think of. but not tryed using eather in are unit .

I paid $99 for one of these last week. It was a colossel piece of junk. It does not work with Behr paint...it is too thick. It just spits globs of paint and makes a huge mess. It may work for wood stain or other thin paint, but not for the paint I used. I bought a Wagner Paint Crew instead and it worked great. Oh yeah, If you do decide to get the Power Painter, be sure to wear hearing protection. This thing is very loud!
