ask4pm wrote:Kodak cameras use AA batteries. I will never buy Kodak cameras anymore. Their cameras "devour" those batteries.

I had to go to Costco in order to buy $12 worth of batteries for a 10 days vacation. Never will I buy again Kodak cameras.

Please do not blame Kodak. These cameras use CCD which was much better than CMOS in early days and at the same time consumed more batteries. This one also comes with CCD and will consume more batteries. You know, the desktop scanners, equipped with CCD scans better with more depth (in case you want to scan a small object for sell in ebay :-)).

So rechargeable NiCd(which holds charge better but has memory effect) is the way to go for Glove Compartment - or if you have access to in-car-charger($10 at BigLots) NiMH. Pont to note - heat inside the car, particularly a parked car in California is bound to shorten the life of rechargeable batteries.

However, one thing - my package is not showing up in the FedEx tracking despite being mailed on Aug 13,2010 and today is aug 15,2010. Any idea ?

Our postman threw the last package in my patio as I was not at home - does he dislike woot ?

68 hours after I got the tracking/shipping info that it was sent VIA Smartpost (to go 180 miles?), and still no tracking information available and not in my postal mailbox. Probably still sitting in their warehouse.

Like I said before, this is my first Woot and I'm *really* not impressed. Unless they're selling Coral Snake Antidote at a huge discount, then this is probably my last Woot.

Too long to ship, no service, no order status available. Screw it.

Same thing here.. like it was with the Iron Gym I ordered.. took forever.. there are definite problems at woot lately. I expected a free ship coupon number or something on the Iron Gym which too more than 2 weeks to get here but nothing.. this I am sure will be the same, slow slow slow.. what was I thinking in ordering??? The tracking number is a joke received number 4 days ago and it still says not found. Smart post was never good, but how could it have gotten this bad?????

It can take a bit of time after the tracking number is issued for everything to cache and show up on the Fedex website. Orders are probably faster than the data at this point. =P

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!

Considering I'm in Austin and you're in Dallas, the package should have arrived by now. It's been 4 days (3 not counting Sunday).

And no tracking info is certainly awfully suspicious. Going out of business tomorrow, are ya? (This has happened to me before)

The tracking should be updating within the next couple days. There's no reason to worry about these things unless there's still no movement on the tracking by Wednesday. When your tracking updates, it will give you an estimate on when it should arrive.

dude, come on. This is not the first time that the shipping info has been on the fritz. Remember the days of ordering from a catalog and you never knew where your stuff was until it showed up?
Well, I do expect a little better then this but don't wig out, it's $5 shipping.

It's not just the shipping info, it's the shipping PERIOD. Like I said, 3+ days to get 180 miles? That ain't right, even for pony express.

And the actual cost of the shipping is less than $5 for them.

samwize wrote:As someone who has worked at a battery store (yes, we ONLY sell batteries), I can tell you that AA batteries is actually a good thing for several reasons.

The biggest reason is that they are common. Someone else mentioned it too, that if you get into a bind and just need to take a few pictures, you don't have to wait while that fancy, better cameras' special-shaped LI-ION battery recharges. Just cannibalize your TV remote and CLICK! Instant memories!

Second reason is that if you know someone who's not just "not tech savvy" but who is a train wreck when it comes to anything more complicated than a toaster, this is something they can understand. I can't tell you how many times I've had to explain to people things about camera batteries that should be obvious. Like using the right type/shape/model is not optional. AA is a size that is pretty much universally known and understood. Few are the people you could ask "do you know what a AA battery is?" and get a puzzled look from. At least in the USA. For the record, another model for them is 1500 size (as in Duracell ProCell 1500 = AA sise).

Then, of course, there are the rechargeables. I did see someone talking about having the 2800mAH NIMH batteries and using the otterific charger. I think you may have gotten a bad batch or something is my instinct. My mom has this camera and has not had the same low-picture-count on a single charge. Remember that just like anything else, batteries are subject to defect. I like to tell people that battery making is much akin to baking: sometimes they turn out great, sometimes just "okay" and as normal, but sometimes you get a flop-batch of cookies or bread.

Another thing about rechargeables: mAH isn't everything. Consider two main things when you are buying your rechargeables: Do you use the camera often, or is it more sporadic? When you do use it, how much do you use it at that time? The mAH just tells you the capacity, but not how good the battery is at holding the power betwixt charges. Rechargeables self-drain pretty fast, in general. If you charge your batteries, take a few pics, then let the camera sit around for 4 months, you'll need to charge them again if they are normal rechargeables.

Many people know about the recent (that is, within just the last few years) arrival of batteries like the Sanyo Eneloop batteries: batteries that have been modified to hold their charge longer while just sitting around. Only a few companies make the type right now (Rayovac Hybrid, Duracell "Pre-charged," Sanyo Eneloop, and Maha/PowerEx Imedion are the ones I can think of), and for the person that only casually or infrequently uses their camera, they are a better AA rechargeable. This type of battery does have less mAH than the older common type of NIMH rechargeable, a result of the different battery design, but if you let them sit around for 4 months, they'll have MUCH more power left than the others.

The last benefit of AA that I'll point out: Availability of the non-rechargeable lithium batteries. If you are going to be somewhere extremely cold, and want to be able to take pictures, then your best bet is to use the non-rechargeable lithiums. They are surprisingly light-weight, and nothing else works as well in cold, really. They also have the longest shelf-life, so you can carry around an "emergency set" of batteries with you for 10 years.

Anyway, I'm not sure if anyone will even read this whole thing, but it's been fun to ramble on for a bit like if I was at work. Hope this helps someone at least. Toodaloo!

Thank You!

So, when did woot start taking a week to ship an order? 7 days before they shipped the camera.....really??? I'd rather pay $5 more and actually get it in a decent amount of time.

Anticipated ship date: Aug 16, 2010

That is the "Date sender indicated that shipment would be tendered to FedEx Smartpost"

It doesn't appear they've even given it to FedEx 4 days after they said it already shipped. That's just outright lying to the customer. Homey don't play this game no more.

Odds are that when one of Woot's staff says that all the cameras were shipped, they were all shipped. Given the probably high volume of units being shipped, the most likely explanation is that FedEx's site just isn't showing up-to-date information on all of the orders.

With the sheer number of items I've purchased online just in the past few years, the statistics tell me that there's almost certainly nothing to worry about. I've had so many instances in which an item that I purchased online has arrived at my door before or on the same day that I get e-mailed a tracking number or the UPS/FedEx/USPS starts showing movement that at this point I don't even really think about it anymore.

Relax.

I live an hour and a half away from the woot warehouses. It shouldn't take 5 business days to box up one camera to ship less then 2hrs away.

The thing is that they're not boxing up just one camera, it's like 6300 of them.

The most efficient way to distribute these things (and pretty much anything sold in bulk) is to go through a distributor, which in woots case is smartpost and fedex. Not the fastest but it's efficient.

And again, it's only $5. If this were ebay, shipping would be at least $10, and you may or maynot get ripped off

I've got a lot of items off of woot where they were delivered to my door within 1-1.5 weeks after purchase and the tracking would not update until after it was delivered.

Woot is not the problem here.

The information posted on fedex is in direct conflict with the information posted in this thread. How exactly would the up-to-date-ness of the information be in question? Is it a fedex policy to put incorrect information on shipping details then retroactively change dates after some time goes by?

Not a great start to our relationship Woot. Ordered and paid on the 9th, here it is the 17th and according to Fedex, they have "Shipment information sent to FedEx", but not the actual item.

If it was free shipping I would say ok take your time ... but it's not free. I will add a healthy dose of skepticism to my decision-making the next time I see a great deal on Woot.

I ordered this camera off woot 8/9. The item was not shipped till 8/16. Fedex says estimated delivery is 8/24. That's over 2 weeks from my order date!

2 weeks is not good business practice.

(PS. this istem was shipped from TX to NJ)

Well, mine is showing an estimated delivery date of Aug 20. It is at the FEDEX Smartpost in Dallas, Tx. So the package must be coming on horseback the 120miles it is away from me to take 3 days. Hopefully Fedex will get off its ass now and get it here before then......Oh how I miss the days of old woot when crap was sent fast.

Chill out!! jeez, you are getting your item shipped for $5.00 are you kidding me? sqwertz says you can ship for less, really where? Your cameras are coming, go outside get a life, if you have to have it that quickly go to the store and pay more.. also do me a favor and don't order from woot anymore that will mean more for the rest of us! I have been wooting for over 5years now and never once have I had a problem with any item I ordered, refurb or new and no problems with shipping. I'm pretty disappointed by Woot's delay in shipping this time - I've never had an order from Woot take this long. Fedex is showing that the package was only delivered to FedEx yesterday, and has an expected delivery date of Aug 21.

I bought this camera as a cheap/portable/semi-disposable camera for my girlfriend while she is abroad. Unfortunately, her plane will leave before the camera arrives.

USPS Priority 2-3 day Mail is about $5 for an individual to ship a box much bigger then what this camera would need. And I do have a need for it, my wife may actually give birth before this camera shows up on my door step.

And as far as a Bowl of Cereal is concerned, if you had been here as long as you claim you would have one by now, cause back in the beginning Beautiful Ocean Cabanas didn't melt the server and sell out before your screen loaded.

I ordered this camera for my mother, with her debit card. I told her it would most likely arrive this week. Called her and told her they delayed it until next week and now she thinks the internet stole her money :\ I've never had a problem like this before with Woot...it says orders will ship within 5 business days but my order didn't ship until today, seven days not counting the day I ordered it. Very disappointed.
