Well, I found out why it's going to take a week to get here. For some reason, it's coming to Ky, from Tx, via Wi... I'm not sure what genius at FedEx thinks the closest distro center for Ky is in Wi... but whatever. Every other time I've had anything shipped it has come from Tn. I think all of this isn't woot's fault, it's FedEx. I would gladly pay extra if woot would start using UPS.

Got mine today. You can tell they are not really firsts by looking at the finish on the sides. Mine had a bunch of sticky goo as well. No, not that kind of sticky goo.

I don't mind getting a bargain because something isn't first quality. But one thing does bother me a bit is that the battery appears to be completely dead. So they've either been sitting for a LONG time or the lithium batteries are defective. Even if the batteries started off in top notch shape, letting them decay the whole way down to empty and then sitting like that for an unknown period of time is extremely bad for them. Hopefully the batteries will be something non proprietary and easy to replace such as 18650s.

I also found the battery to be dead despite the package label saying charged and ready to use. The battery itself is warranted for 6 months, so I intend to give it a workout.

I am also disappointed with the Free-Tips-for-Life program. Two tips that I need were not included and are out of stock. I back-ordered them anyway and paid $3.95 for S&H. It seems that Free-Tips-for-Life means two tips per year plus S&H.

I charged the battery for about 12 hours when I first got it last week. The indicator showed full bars when I disconnected it. I checked it again today. It has been sitting disconnected and I have not used it. It is now down to one bar. These batteries are complete trash. What a shame.

As per the product description, you should have a three year warranty via XPal. I would definitely recommend getting in touch with them as soon as possible.

At least most of you have your unit. I ordered mine at 3 a.m. on the 11th. They sent shipping info to fedex on the 16th, and fedex finally saw fit to pick it up the 19th, in the evening. Then it went to Denver, where it was transferred to US post on the 23rd. The fedex estimate was the 23rd. Who knows when I'll get it. I won't think twice or three times on my next woot, more like four or five times if at all, especially with all off the problems all of you other lucky people who acually have a unit are having!

I ordered mine on the 11th and will not have it until the 27th. I mean...come on. I just bought the Noise canceling headphones and Samsung camera for an overseas trip next week and have zero confidence they will be here by then.

update: just heard back. I had the right address, but wrong zip and it got routed based on that. Very frustrating. I wish for the days when people sorted mail and not gallivanting alpacas

I haven't ordered from Woot in a long time until this battery pack. Ordered on 11th and still did haven't received it. Checked fedex to find this:

Arrived on 19th at Fedex Smartpost Dallas (3 days from Carrolton)

Sent to USPS on 20th

USPS tries delivering to Richardson, TX on 23rd.

Only problem is I DON'T live in Richardson, Texas anymore. My order has the right California address, but Woot sent it to Richardson, where I lived in 2008!

It looks like in your shipping address you used the California city and state, but the Richardson zip code. The zip code is what Fedex goes by, so that's why it's in Richardson. Email us at serivce@woot.com so that we can help.

There is only a 6 month warranty on the battery. "XP warrants the internal battery cell of the power pack for a period of 6 months from the date of purchase". From the bottom of the box. What do you do with the rest of the pack for 2 and a half years with a bad battery?

I received mine today and it was dead as a door nail. I have it on charge now, they say to charge it for 8 hours the first time. They also say that it is shipped with a 75% charge and the battery will hold a charge for up to one year.
Makes me wonder how long these have been sitting in a warehouse, and much life do they have left in them.

This is from the site.

"The package on my product says that it is a pre-charged battery. Do I still need to charge it before use?"

"Yes. We recommend charging your new Power Pack for 8 hours. Energizer Power Packs are shipped with an approximate 75% charge, however, we recommend charging the Power Pack once you receive it so you will start with a full charge."

Mine arrived today.

But the battery had no charge upon arrival (none of the indicators lit up when pressing the "test" button).

After charging for 8 hours as stated in the owner's manual, the unit seems to be working fine. Time will tell.

I'm having the same issue asveveryone else. I fully charged it for over 10 hours before using. It said it was fully charged while plugged into the wall, but immediately after disconnecting it and trying to charge something with the correct tips and adapters nothing happens.
Doesn't it seem weird that this has been happening to almost everyone???
Somebody please help as this seems like we were duped somehow.
Thx

I have also noticed a very fast decline after the "Initial charge time of 8hrs."

I wanted to test out just letting it sit at my desk with nothing plugged in.

Charged from 9PM-7AM
Four Bars @ 9AM
Three Bars @ 11AM (Right Now)

Just got mine today. Charged it for 10 min. Got hot and began to bulge and deform the plastic casing. Its actually pushed open the seams. This is the 2nd failed order from WOOT. The 1st was a SANSA Clip+ that never arrived.

I ordered mine on the 11th like everyone else. Got it yesterday the 23rd. There was no charge on it when it arrived. I plugged it in last night to charge and will test it tonight, after 24 hours charging. What's the procedure for returning it, if it turns out to be a dud?

Just to make you people jealous, I received my battery a day early.
But it still was totally dead.

almigthyswrath

quality posts: 0 Private Messages almigthyswrath

Mine came in yesterday, but I didn't get it until today. Arrived totally dead. Charged for 4-6 hours. It showed one bar blinking when i first plugged it in, and registered fully changed within first hour i think. I unplugged and replugged the AC and it did same thing a few more times.

It seems to charge a blackberry just fine, and my laptop (full size HP) says the adapter is not powerful enough (that was expected). But no lights come on when pressing the check/on button. Not when charging a device, and not when completely unplugged. I really doubt a blackberry is a good load test of this thing though.

I am planning on attempting a warranty replacement. The battery gauge is a quite important feature in my opinion.

It appears that you have to register the device here first
http://www.xpalpower.com/us/modules/register/login.php
and then you can call them to open a RMA request. 209-578-9918. Although it does sound like you are responsible for shipping, possibly even in both directions.

Any chance woot.com has a response for all of us who received these duds? Whomever did the refurbishment obviously didn't do anything.

I received my package today and charging the battery. Waiting for 8-10 hrs before testing. It was one bar when I started the charge and went up to the 4th bar blinking within the next 2 hrs or so. I guess I will not be surprised if I see the same issues. Serve me right for buying from a liquidator like Woot. This was my first (and probably last purchase) too. Par for the course if Woot is not going to take care of our issues.

FrozenIpaq

quality posts: 2 Private Messages FrozenIpaq

I'm having issues as well. I'm able to charge my device right after I take it off being charged (but the battery check is only showing one bar at that point even when it should be fully charged). I was able to charge a device with the initial connection but once I broke the connection and tried to re-start it wouldn't work.

Very disappointed and I've been a long time wooter. Will most likely open a RMA if I have to, although I hate the whole RMA process.

With all these failures being reported it's a hassle for us to take money out of our own pocket to return something that shouldn't need returning. I know it's just the nature of the beast (RMA process) but I was hoping to use it this weekend a lot, when I'm not near power outlets and when I go back to school so I can charge my UMPC if need be...looks like I'll have to do without for a few weeks

First order from woot. When the battery is being charged one blue LED would blink for a couple hours and then go out. After 10 hours there is still no charge in the battery. Guess it's completely dead.

quality posts: 0 Private Messages jaimewang

Mine got a few problems as well:
1, when open the box, quite a lot sticky goo by the sides of the battery pack.
2, when charging the battery pack, the check light looks alright, one bar blinking at the begining. all 4bars illuminated after
8+ hours charge. however, after unplug the charging cable for the battery pack, the battery check/on light is not working at all. NO response when pressing.
3, when connect to my dell laptop(not netbook), no response at all from my laptop.

I am planning on attempting a warranty replacement. I just don't think I should be responsible for the shipment.

I've noticed a couple comments about these batteries being "refurbs" & "2nds" as in not good runs, but I did not notice anything in the description that said they were not brand NEW. With all the failures it sure looks like these might have been "refurbs"? Woot? New or not???

FrozenIpaq

I believe Woot allowed them to sit on the shelves too long... or the batch they received was an older batch. Usually when you fully deplete a battery it will no longer hold a charge, much like what is happening to most of us here

IcePick

To start, my brother and I each ordered one of these. His is brilliant and works exactly as advertised. Mine only shows the charge level of the device when its plugged in to the wall to charge itself and it makes a horrible clicking noise while charging anything else. Save for the indicator and the clicking it appears to work exactly as it should. I'll be mailing mine back to energizer tomorrow for replacement which they've promised will arrive next Friday, just in time for vaca :-D.

He told me on the phone that a "bad batch" had gone to woot and until I told him about my brothers, that he was not aware of any good units hitting woot. A major disappointment for sure, but as my profile indicates, this makes woot number 58 and 2 out of 58 aint bad. The other item was wireless controllers for xbox, as in original xbox if that indicates anything. Go woot :-D

Bad news. Both my and my friend's units seem to be working fine, so not all of the units are defective.

When I received it and pressed the test button, no bars illuminated. Per the owner's manual, I charged it for 8 hours. As time passed, the bars illuminated from just one blinking to all four glowing steadily.

After 8 hours, I unplugged the AC adapter, and used the unit to charge my GPS via the USB cable/port. Everything seemed to work fine. After a few hours, the GPS unit indicated a full charge, and pressing the unit's test button illuminated three bars.

I disconnected the GPS, put the unit back on the AC adapter and recharged it for a couple of hours. Pressing the test button illuminated all four bars. Then I unplugged the unit and let it just sit for 20 hours. Pressing the test button illuminated all four bars.

I then connected it to my Sony portable DVD player using the green cord and the NB06 adapter tip. The DVD player's charge light came on. After a couple of hours, the DVD player's charge light went out, and pressing the test button illuminated two bars. Powering up the DVD player showed a fully charged player battery.

I'd speculate what might have happened is that the manufacturer or distributor discovered a bunch of units that had been sitting in the warehouse for a year or two, and "sold" them to WOOT, who then sold them as "new", but didn't know it was "old stock".

I'd recommend that everyone who is having a battery problem:

1. register the device within 90 days of purchase.

2. file a claim with the company for the battery within the battery's short 6 month warranty - 6 months from date of purchase.

JimBToo

quality posts: 6 Private Messages JimBToo

Note that the specifications for the power output are listed in two places - on the box and on a label on the back of the battery.

But on my unit there is a discrepancy.

5VDC at 1000mA on the box and label

12VDC at 2000mA on the box but 3000mA on the label

19VDC at 2000mA on the box and label.

The owner's manual indicates that there is an over-current circuit breaker inside the unit. But the unit seems to be semi-sealed so you can't (easily) open the unit to reset the circuit breaker. The owner's manual troubleshooting section says to return the unit to the place of purchase. I wonder whether the place of purchase knows that, or if they have any clue as to what to do.

Because the unit is semi-sealed, you also can't easily replace the battery. If the battery fails after the 6 month warranty, basically all you can do is donate the unit to a battery recycling center.

I posted earlier that I was still waiting to recieve my unit, on the 23rd as promised. I did get it on the 24th, one day late but livable. I feared the worst from all of the other postings, but was pleased to find a sealed box, with the ipad connector which I don't need, and everything works fine. No power when opened, but after a few hours charge it showed several bars, and charged my cell phone fine. After 8 hours it was full and ready to go. I'm still using it, with no decrease in battery going by the charge indicator. If the bad units everyone has were stored in less than ideal areas, below freezing, or way above 120 degrees, that may account for the problems. If repaired they should last a long time if kept in the proper setting for storage. I will keep wooting, and try to be more patient, with them, because all in all this was a great bargain, even with the small headache I've had. Thanks Woot.

Good & Bad for me. Arrived DOA, of course, but charged right up and held it for several days. Charged my GPS, and held three bars for three days.

But I can't charge anything else! My cellphone and tablet computer both say "Not charging."

Anyone else have this problem??

More bad news.

I charged the unit then let it just sit a few days. Today, when i pressed the test button, all four bars lit steadily.

And because I received the WOOT lights today (which are conveniently powered by a USB cable), I thought... why not try powering the lights from the battery pack? So, I did. Am. Doing.

Two hours later, the lights are still working and the battery pack still shows all four bars.

Same tail as the majority. The XP8000 was delivered on 8/24/2010. I charged it for 8 hours and used it to charge a partially discharged iPod Touch. The third time I charged the Touch, when the XPAL still showed full charge bars it went completely dead after only a partial charge of iPod.

I charged the XP8000 for over 24 hours and repeated the test and with the Touch at about 25% battery the XP charged it to 50% and went completed dead, no bars again.

I am trying to get Energizer to give me an RMA. I assumed Woot has there normal hands off from any responsibility for crap they send as good products.
