Back from lunch - ahhh the expensive Japanese knives. I saw these in a cooking supplies shop. They are really beautiful, like samurai swords, and as sharp. The onion design is actually in the blade (see the pictures) and shows the many layers of steel the knives are made of. If I had the money and didn't already have a set of Henkels Zwilling knives I might think about them.

I got a quality post last time with this, let's see if it works twice...

Bought 6 last time. Spikes are pretty weak, but heads seem to be OK. Use one in the back yard and one in the front a couple times a week. Sprays well, and if one ever breaks, I have backups. Great price, adequate device. I'd buy again if I didn't have 4 extras now.

With the posts I've seen thus far today, THIS one has a fighting chance at becoming a KWALITEE POST!!! ;)

Actually, there are only 1000 knives, 200 steels & 200 blocks. They count the block as one of the pieces. That's as bad as counting a pot & lid as 2 separate items.

Damn your scaly hide, it's $50 cheaper than I got it for in June!

This was my (very indulgent) birthday present from hubby and they really are amazing. The grips are heavenly, and of course the blades are just terrific; strong with a solid edge.

Breakdown:

4 3/8” Chef's Knife: The only dud. Its size and form factor make it almost totally useless. I clearly have no idea what this stubby little guy is supposed to accomplish; it's too thick to be a good parer, and it's too short to be a solid utility blade.

5” Serrated Utility Knife: This one surprised me. It has turned out to be one of my go-to knives for all kinds of prep tasks. The shape is a little odd, but the balance, length and gentle serration make it a terrific multi-tasker.

6” Chef's Knife: I use this every single day. Perfect length and heft, terrific balance and feel in the hand, and so silky to use. love love love

8” Slicing Knife: Also good, but huge, so I use it less than the others.

Multi-Purpose Serrated Slicer Knife: More of the gentle serration, in a long knife that's firmer than you'd expect. Great for cooked meat, bread, and for dismembering perfectly innocent watermelons.

Haven't use the steel yet, but the block is very pretty. The knives aren't very secure in the slots because they're so tall, but it's a nice slab of wood with room for shears down below.

I recommend it if you have the cha-ching.

Who cares about the block? You are buying the knives at a steep discount. If you want a cherry block, order one separately and you will still be saving hundreds.

Anyone own these? I'm looking for info on how well these cut through human flesh. The kitchen knives I am currently using don't do that great of a job.

These knives are great if you actually know how to hold a knife. Those that put their index finger on top of the blade won't care for these.

A knife is a knife but you do get what you pay for. That said, most people will have no use for these unless they like to cut lot of things and do it quite often.

At least these will last a lifetime or three if properly cared for and sharpened. unlike that iPhone everyone replaces every year.

I almost gave you a Warhammer mini-fig just for having knives sticking up in your backyard. Kinda like "Casa De Dexter".

Yep, the knives give you a better long term return than any electronics ever will. Unless like me you tend to get your fingertips in the way.
