NightGhost wrote:But on that page, if you click "design," it says "Choose from glossy colors: Mars Black (standard), Peacock Blue and Tomato Red," and you can find the Woot laptop on Google by searching for "Dell Inspiron 17.3" Obsidian Black."

Furthermore, if you compare the right-side views of the Woot photo and the one in the Dell gallery, the connections are completely different.

And then there's the obvious - the model numbers are different!

And if you search for this model on Dell Support, you get as far as "Laptop," "Inspiron," and there's no model number close to this one's.

The mystery continues...

edit: I think this might be it: Inspiron 17 (1764)

It is presently offered in "Ice Blue" or "Promise Pink", but there's a black one in the gallery, and it has the "1764" in the model number, and looks the same as the Woot pictures.

The mobility Radeon card (which the Woot model doesn't seem to have) is the same one listed in reviews for the Woot model number (there's a different one offered with the 17R).

Here's the accessories page.

For those saying that this is too heavy to be portable, I've had the dell 1720 for almost three years now and I take it with me everywhere. Weight: 7.62 Advertised, 8lbs 13.2oz actual, and I have no complaints as far as weight goes. I carry it in a backpack that accommodates a 17+ screen. It is made by Samsonite. I can't see any product name on the tag of the bag or I would post it.

The product specs are available here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1764/en/index.htm The Comprehensive Specifications listed there says the resolution is 1600x900 and 8GB of RAM is the max.

Saw the post above about the pn# not necessarily being accurate. Then, because I'm looking for another Woot score on a laptop, I noticed there's no Warranty line in the summary.

I, *gasp*, actually had to search the page to find that there was only a 90 day warranty on this Dell.

Woot, tell me someone's just asleep at the wheel today and this is not in any way related to the new parently umbilical sticking out of your ear!

Reviews on the parental unit were mixed I'll consider it while I'm on the plane this morning...

Thanks Woot, keep on Wooting!

The picture on the laptop screen is of the Sombrero Galaxy, which was taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope in infared light. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful images of a galaxy.

Edit: There is also a visible light version, which was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.

This may or may not be a deal, but one strong piece of advice. Don't even think about buying this without the Square Trade warranty. 90 days on a laptop, especially a respiffed laptop, is unwise, bordering on reckless. Consider the $90 bucks for the Square Trade warranty as part of the price.

I'ma skeptic when it comes to refurb laptops (cuz they're already fragile enough as it is) but damn a 17 inch i5 for $599? Good deal

Yes they do sir. Google is your friend. Backpacks of that size seem to be more common (understandably).

This 17.3 computer is big, if you need portability forget it. Consider it only as a desktop replacement. I have a slightly different model with the 9 cell battery, and it is heavy. Woot is selling refurbs at too high of a price to be considered a deal, drop the prices at least a $100.

I'm pretty sure this one is an Inspiron 1764 (not 17R) based on the particular CPU (the 1764 is the only one I found with the 430).

See these results at the Dell Outlet: http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?rn=4670&SC=&c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

Better yet just dont buy a Dell.

I have never personally owned one but I have had many friends and family members buy Dell and its always one horror story after another. I honestly cant ever remember hearing from someone that they loved their Dell.

My mother unfortunately went with Dell for her insurance business and last year, after having one problem after another, she wound up replacing every last computer in her office. Wound up costing her over $15,000.

The fact that its a refurb just makes the whole proposition that much more scary.

How do you miss this in the description:

I mean I'm hardly one to criticize being lazy...but it will take you more time to ask something that is in the description, then wait for a reply, than to just read what is in front of you.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to buy any of Dell products unless they have a full 4-5 year warranty, and even with the warranty it's a pain because they outsource their customer service to companies overseas so half the time it's hard talking to them. IMO (in my opinion) Dell = Epic Fail.

With Dell's build to order model, many systems that show up as "refurb" are actually systems that are ordered and then canceled, so it's not that scary.

But there is such thing as too much heavy and/or too much heat.

For a laptop with this size screen I'd expect more than Intel integrated crapgrahics. Simple stuff will be ok, but there will certainly be cases where it will struggle to keep a smooth framerate.

A word of advice to anyone buying a new PC: make sure it's got an i3, i5, or i7 processor. Here's a comparison and explanation. They're cheaper and smarter.

Maybe I don't understand your post, but are you saying you're surprised that a refurb laptop only has a 90 day warranty from Woot? If so,I don't think I have ever seen an item here that was a refurb that had more than a 90 day warranty.Don't understand your "gasp" or why you suspect Amazon would have anything to do with it.

It's frustrating that the thing has such crappy intel graphics, and there is no way to upgrade that. I mean, the only thing I do that would need a processor as otterific as the i5 is... gaming. For everything else, the i5 is really a needless amount of power. A processor half its price would perform indistinguishably in normal computing tasks. So at least for me, this is an ill-conceived configuration aimed at people who load up their computers with so much adware that a cheaper processor grinds to a halt.

Well this isn't such a good deal. I JUST ordered an i-5 450 Studio Dell Laptop (Thats the new 450 chip not the 430 and the studio series not the insipron) from dell with 6gb ram 500gb HD and a Radon 1GB 5470 Video card with HD screen for $655

So for the $55 more I get an upgraded machine with more ram and its new.

Should be at the house tomorrow! No deal here

I will say this about Dell laptops, they generally have the best overall resolution capabilities that I've seen when compared to HP, Acer, etc...

Of course, I think Dell makes a rather bland laptop and their overall build quality is nothing like it used to be in my opinion.

I do agree with Shunb, if your buying a Dell, buy the 4 or 5 year warranty. My first laptop died a few weeks after the 1 year warranty ran out. And my current one has been serviced 2 times in 3 years. Bad videocard and bad motherboard.

If a desktop part dies, its easy to replace; if your laptop dies your screwed without a warranty unless you very comfortable working on laptops and can get the part from dell.

All that said, my next laptop probably will be Dell or Alienware(dell), and I am typing this on an Inspiron E1705.
