I DID buy on on the 16th and love it. Slowly giggling my way through "Coach" reruns. No need for the extra range, with router on floor 1 and TV downstairs and across the hall. Streams great.

If you have Netflix - you want this.

Funny thing, I actually am in the middle of streaming a Law and Order: SVU marathon on NetFlix right now, I was watching an episode (S2E6) when I saw Twitter remind me that a new item was available.

I never understood the point of them. Does it improve the video or something or does it just enable you to see HD format?

Any reason, other than supporting Woot, to have this when I already have a PS3, Wii and a Blu Ray player that are all Netflix capable?

Got one for my parents about 6 months ago and they love it. It works great on wireless, but if you can wire it, it will (logically) load much faster. Works beautifully, and the remote is very simple. Have also used it with Pandora. Spend the $5 and get yourself an HDMI cable.

Netflix has apparently added the ability to pick instant-watch stuff through the box, so now laziness can be achieved more efficiently. Highly recommend this thing!

This is best entertainment value out there. Great picture if your pipeline is 4mbs or greater. $9 a month for Netfilx instant, all the movies & TV series you can eat, more everyday. Lots of other channels like Pandora and Movie archives. I love my Roku, plus this one has USB for local media. inattentive armadillo-proof, Doesn't require a PC running Play-on or a server. Just great value for your entertainment $. I have dumped cable.

On my Nas (within my entertainment center) I have my itunes library, photo library and video recorded off of my Cannon and Panasonic cameras. I'd love to find a device that I can connect up to my tv and stereo and have access to that without streaming through a computer. I was hoping my xbox 360 was that device but its really slow.

Does the Roku fit the bill or is there something better? I just want to see my pictures and hear my music. It shouldn't be this tough.

From skimming the manufacturer page, I'd say no, unless you really want to centralize all of your media to one device and want to spend the money on it. That's up to you, though. Personally, I just keep a shuttle hooked up to my TV and play everything through that. I like that kind of thing, though, so YMMV.

We've had a Roku XR for several months. We really enjoy it. It's nice to be able to have a broad range of viewing choices.

There isn't a lot, imo, that comes for free over this box, but if you have Netflix with Instant Viewing included, you've got access to all of their Instant Viewing material. Some of the shows my family watches include Mythbusters, Say Yes To the Dress, Californication, Weeds, iCarly, old Bugs Bunny cartoons, Blues Clues, the Addams Family and 95 million other kid shows.

Amazon Video on Demand is also available, a number of internet radio options and numerous other choices I haven't availed myself of.

This is SOOOO much easier and sleeker for watching Netflix Instant than hookup a laptop up to the TV. AND it's HD, which our laptop certainly wasn't! lol

Was the description typed up last second or is Woot inventing the word "whencever?"

Apparently "whencever" is/was a real word - in the 1828 dictionary.

So how does this work, will it stream any type of video found on the web to my TV, or just ones that are deemed compatible? Can I use it with YouTube, Hulu, MLB.TV, NFL Sunday Ticket?

Talk to me like I am 5 years old. What other options do I have through Roku. Amazon, I have heard, but haven't used yet. How do I stream Pandora?

So, if I buy this, will it be good for anything, without me having to pay for subscriptions to Netflix or whatever other services it works with?

bobert1634

quality posts: 4 Private Messages bobert1634

I did buy earlier and have had 2 running in my house for about a month. It simply is a great new way to bring additional content to you TV. Netflix of course has a subscription fee. Many of the channels that you choose to watch are all free. You may have to register with some of them. They will give you a unique number to enter and that is it. I plan on dropping cable very soon. My rooftop antenna and a DSL line gives me free phone and nearly free TV.

I bought one of these directly from Roku last month and this is definitely a buy. I read on one site that this speedy Roku player will only show it's stuff if you have an "N" router. Without it, this blogger said it's no faster than the standard Roku. So I bought an N router and, to be honest, I don't know that I saw a difference. Anybody with more technical savvy know anything about this?

I have this model and love it. I am watching a movie from Netflix right now. It has a decent range. I tried to use it out in my garage studio but the signal wouldn't go through 2 outer walls- will work all over in my house though. Great deal on a great product.
