OH, I was hoping Woot would have a refurbed Roomba. I have the refurbed Scheduler and Discovery models (one upstairs, one down) but one of them is dying. It's been over two years and I have four cats (I think I need to change my sig) so life is tough on the Roombas.

It doesn't appear to be a battery problem so I've been thinking that maybe it's just time to get another, and here it is.

My cats will be quite excited about the new playmate.

I have four cats! And Two Roombas.

so the ex got my Baggie of Cthulhu roomba, in for 1. If nothing else one of my cats likes to fire these up and ride them in the middle of the night so that should be fun.

Did you try it? I clicked on the link on the woot item description, it took me to ST's webpage, I entered the code, and it took off $6.00 on the 1 year warranty ($9.00 on the 2 year)

I got one a while back, the thing really is amazing. Keeps your floors clean. I was wowed at the amount of crap that was on my apparently clean floors.

I have a feeling that everyone who follows woot and wants a refurbished roomba already has one...

I bought a "new" roomba once from woot! and like many others it came preloaded with lots of hair and dirt in the compartment tray. The battery life was horrible, but woot! gave a full refund for me and many others. The point of this post is to say that battery life on a refurb Roomba, might not be so hot and as a bonus you might get free other people dirt & hair.

Let's see the quality impulse buys!

Woot needs to start selling Roomba batteries. I have 2 Roombas and am tired of buying new $50 batteries every 6 months. The lifespan is pathetic.

There is a reason why Woot sells these on a regular basis ... they are returned by unsatisfied customers. I've bought 2 Roombas and one Scooba through Woot and all are dead. I treated them gently and my floors are easy-to-clean tile.

I guess it's like anything else you buy ... there are always some bad ones in the batch. Any purchase of a refurbished iRobot product should be considered carefully knowing the risks.

Pro tip/quality post bait for Roomba refurbs:

iRobot basically builds these refurbs out of whatever they have lying around in inventory. So if you're picky about what the virtual wall or dock looks like, well, too bad. The Roomba itself may even look different than the one pictured.

My 530 refurb from the last Woot has a small compact black dock and virtual wall, which look completely unlike the pictures on this Woot. On the upside, it came with upgraded brushes and an Aero-Vac bin.

I'm not sure how that's possible. I've had mine for over a year and it's still going strong.

Do you leave Roomba off the charger for extended periods of time? If you do, you should take the battery out to prevent it from draining.

Also, try to run Roomba at least once a week. That keeps the battery happy

If you get the Roomba 530 and have pets that shed, I highly recommend getting the Aerovac Bin too:
http://store.irobot.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4017590&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=1BF6F415-281B-DF11-9DA0-002219319097

I bought a 530 on Woot last year, and it was having major problems handling my dog's fur (the brushes would get clogged and it would start burping up hairballs). I bought the Aerovac bin and now most of the fur gets pulled into the bin instead of getting stuck on the brushes! Amazing!

My scheduler units run twice a week and the batteries last almost two years, but maybe you're using yours a lot more than I am ...

You might want to check out the battery reset instructions that are all over the net ... will get you at least a few more months out of each battery ...

For those that care, here's the iRobot 530 page.

They have them for $299 new and $199 refurbed.

I so want one to replace my aging iRobot Discovery (400 series) fleet, but I want the ones that can be scheduled!

I have a rug with light and dark geometric shapes and Roomba thinks it is falling down steps and executes its escape routine. It will not enter the dark areas of the rug. Not a big deal, however, it keeps Roomba from going out of the living room into the dining room. I have to give it a nudge to get it past those da*n dark squares in the rug!!!

So do I really want to buy one? Can't decide. Reviews seems mixed: it's great and it's craptastic.

Should I just stick with my Swifter?

This is my second Roomba, I just got it from a recent woot. LOVE IT!!! Even better than my earlier 500 series machine! The charge is good enough to vacuum my entire house. Even with a dog and two cats, it's incredible!

I have this model and it works great. My only complaint is that hair, lint and other debris can get tangled around the rotating brush and wheel gears causing the machine to malfunction. To avoid this, about every third time I use it, I take the brush and wheels off and clean everything.

I have a 600 sq. ft. living room and have never had any problems getting the whole place done on a single charge.

Note, this is a brush, not a vacuum, so don't expect miracles, but is will clean as well as a thorough sweeping of any floor.

I got one of these from Woot about a month ago (and the Scooba) and have fallen in love. I have a three story home with two big dogs and all hardwood floors. For the first time I feel like I can actually keep my house clean. If you're hesitating - don't. It's totally worth it and you can't beat this price.

Had one, gave up on it after it decided to go down the stairs with the electronic barriers on. Almost useless with a Golden Retriever in the the house.

Have they updated the battery in the last few years from the updated yellow version? I bought a Roomba a couple of years ago, my FIRST Woot, and the battery dies within the first year of light use.

Does woot ever sell non-refurb roombas? It looks like most of the issues people are quoting are in regards to refurbs. I want one of these, but I want it to last more than 6 months.

Nope, Roombas are bona-fide vacuums. You can tell because of the air it blows out the back. (The iRobot Dirt Dog, which isn't actually a Roomba, is the only one without suction.)

Hmm, strange. And how often are you running it? More than 2-3 times a week?
