Does it come with a matching set of twigs?
At $40 per square foot that's one expensive board.
If this is "+10 Endurance Vile Hinoki-Set Cutting Board of Magic" for $65, I'd TOTALLY buy it!
Keeping with the description theme, the item number IS DM0800!
Hey, PEOPLE... its obviously APRIL 1ST and not September 21st. Woot is such a cool company that they can shift the whole of Nature!
carben100 wrote:Can someone shed some light on why these are so expensive?
Cheaper boards assume a lot of cracks, where bacteria can settle. Harder surfaces (e.g. glass) dull your knives. This board also looks nice...
cynvision wrote:Now I believe this malarkey about them being sucked into Amazon. Time to roll out a food.woot.com, guys.
This is actually a great idea! They could sell $40 brushed-metal iApples that lose their taste unless you get the special case.
Spend $10 on board at your local store, give $55 to charity. You'll feel better about yourself and keep some Japanese from chopping down rare trees. NEXT!
The rare wood they are using is recycled from the scraps used to build temples in Japan - temples that can withstand the heat and humidity of Japan's climate, therefore could stand up to what I do in my kitchen. I have this board and love it. That said, I can't stand Kai and would never give them any more of my money...
$5.00 for the wood $54.99 for the name $5 for shipping
Cutting boards retain massive amounts of germs from the food, especially meat, that you chop on them. Problem is, the only way to kill those germs is intense heat like in a dishwasher, but the necessary heat will warp the wood and dry it out, making it crack.
My tracker predicts this will sell out in 3 hours - apparently when wooters shell out the $$ just to get the woof-off going again.
Someone with ADD has to be bouncing off the walls waiting on this to sell out.
Thank you Woot for putting up this nicely expensive cutting board. It is primetime on the East Coast, so now I can go watch the new show season premieres and not worry that I am going to miss anything that I want to purchase coming up for a couple of hours.
'Hinoki' , Japanese for vasectomy.
i could probably afford a refurbished one...

I am sort of sad I didn't stop working to get the discount reckoning shirts.

*Raises glass* Hear, hear!
I suspect that Williams-Sonoma sells stuff like this for a lot of $ making this a good deal, if one is into gourmet wood, like my GF is.
Just did some research on it, apparently this type of wood is rot and bacteria resistant. For anyone interested, it is made from these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamaecyparis_obtusa
Kai Shun 18”x12” Hinoki Cutting Board, Kai Shun 18”x12” Hinoki Cutting Board, It's Big. It's Heavy. It's Wood! Kai Shun 18”x12” Hinoki Cutting Board, Kai Shun 18”x12” Hinoki Cutting Board, It's better than bad, it's GOOD!
It's a piece of fricken wood! Is Amazon the harbinger of woot stupidity?

^ Either a quality post or a quality joke
Damn fine Cutting Board! Damn Fine! (and I've been watching this all day to only purchase a shirt) I think I'll go home now.
Rather have this:

Interesting because the reason i don't have a wood cutting board is because I need something I can put in the 1000 degree dishwasher to kill bacteria.
Wow! As if $60 isn't bad enough, looks like these usually go for more than double that! http://www.thefind.com/garden/browse-shun-hinoki-cutting-board

It rolls down the stairs, all over in pairs. I love Ren and Stimpy
I'd pay $65 for the list of suckers that bought this... I have some bridges to sell.
Don't you use a cutting board so that you won't destroy your counter-top? Why would I buy a cutting board that costs WAY more than my counter? At $149 for a piece of wood--it'd better be a piece of Christ's cross... or the Titanic... or something cooler than a tree I've never heard of.
You have to understand that God lives in this wood, no, really, that's in the Japanese name. On the other hand, I'll stick to my NSF-sanctified polypropylene cheapo, which never, ever, ever, rots.
But I want to be a Food Druid not a Food Cleric. Can I reroll?
MichaelSF wrote:Guess I'll call my new GF and ask her to come over to see some wood. Hope I don't get slapped.
Maybe she likes it that way ;)
