Oh Woot, why did you have to make my $5 coupon expire yesterday? Have one of these and will probably get another.

Ok - now that I bought one...can anyone recommend a good site for picking up audio books to put on this Fuze?

Don't think anyone mentioned this yet...in case it matters to you. The last Sandisk refurb I bought from Woot had the word "Refurb" permanently stamped/etched into the rubber-coated case on the back side. Doesn't matter to me, but just in case it matters to you.

FINALLY! In for 1. Been waiting for a Sansa player for months. My wife's previously wooted 1st-gen Clip died (after a good service life) and my E-series is still going strong. These Sandisk players are the perfect alternative to the much overhyped Ipods.

It would be nice if the Fuze line had integrated clips like the, well, Clip series. But it looks like accessory add-ons are plentiful and cheap on eBay.

I bought a Sansa e260 from Woot in 2008 and loved it. It was stolen in later 2009 and I bought a Fuze from here in 2010. I still love it. The Sansa players are great and you can't beat it for that price. Heck, buy two in case one breaks and it's STILL cheaper than most of the players out there. If you don't need to carry around 80 million songs, a small player like this is perfect.

Hmm. So could I get an adapter or something or do I just need to look for a whole new system? (Sorry i am pretty clueless with "digital music" but the man has been begging for one & this may be a perfect present if I can get speakers that will work for it.

I use this daily in my car and the only time it leaves the car is to charge/sync with Rhapsody.

Had it well over a year now and it's lasted through 110 degree+ temperatures in the car and never skips a beat.

Works way better with Rhapsody than my E200 series did.

Nice Kopi Luwak reference. Let's see some of that sh*t (excuse the pun) on woot someday!

Bought this last time it was up ... worked fine for awhile now not so much. The songs will get stuck or cut out, also had trouble with the head phone jack. Guess you get what you pay for! And with a refurb, some get luckier than others. We bought a nano.

No. Port is the same size but wired exactly backwards. If you put a Sansa on an iPod dock, it fries the Sansa.

Yay! I have had three Sansas, and I've loved them all. I lost one, smashed one in the car door, and one got stolen, so I've been going without for several months. I'll be really glad to have some music while I run once more, and this is a great price.

If you're on the fence about this, get it. Then put Rockbox on it.

I have two of these already-use 'em to listen to podcasts downloaded from a variety of sites. Radio comes in reasonably clearly, so I listen to local community whenever the podcasts get too depressing and I feel like a break. Haven't used them yet for photos or video-guess that's next, now that I've figured out how to get videos off the net.
Great units. Can't say enough good about 'em...
Oh, by the way, for those of you who drop 'em; make a pouch you can hang around your neck and drop inside your shirt. I used to just drop it inside my shirt, but realized sweat might shorten its life. I sew, so it was easy for me, but you can make a sling out of anything. Not Rocket Science....
Enjoy.

Damn, one more thing. The screen is easy to scratch. I put a piece of packing tape over it and haven't had any problems since. Tape is easy to replace, too.

My husband bought one of these for each of us a few months ago. They're pretty good players. The only complaint we have is that the "random" setting plays the songs in one random order playlist- the SAME one every time. So, it's randomly uniform.

I just got the 8 GB Fuze from a recent Woot and I thought I'd give my impressions of it.

My Sansa history:
I got my first Sansa, a 2 GB referb e250, from Woot 11/2007. I Rockboxed it and used it everywhere. I quickly realized that 4 GB (2 GB internal + 2 GB micro SD) wasn't big enough. In 5/2008 I bought an 8 GB referb e280 from Woot. I Rockboxed the e280 too. In the last two years the e280 went everywhere with me. It baked in my car during countless summer days and froze during cold New England nights. It never buttafuocoed and the battery life never deteriorated. It's a tough little machine. After two + years, I decided to upgrade to a Fuze.

Fuze Pro's:

  • Hey, it's am mp3 player. It plays music.
  • The default firmware has an option to play music by folder. No play lists are needed. Because of this I've found no reason to install Rockbox.
  • In MSC mode the Fuze looks like an external USB drive. Just load the music and you're good to go. Or load data, or documents or whatever you want.
  • I don't watch videos so I can't comment on the conversion software.
  • Unlike the e200 models, the Fuze has no record button on the side. This means saying goodbye to accidentally pressing the record button.
  • The radio works fine.
  • The Fuze is thin. It's thinner than the plastic grip on some of my head phones.
  • The power button is a slide switch that's integrated with the lock function.
  • Big, easy to read screen.
  • The default Sansa firmware is easy to read with my aging eyes.
  • The included earbuds have ok sound but they don't stay in my ears well. Consider getting new ones.
  • In a 6 hour test, the charge dropped to 78%. From this I anticipate around 24 hours usage from one charge.

Fuze Con's:

  • Sansa Fuze accessories are hard to find.
  • All I've seen for cases so far are silicon sleeves and hard plastic. Neither are my favorites. A case needed if you want a belt hook.
  • The headphone jack is on the bottom, probably to accommodate the LCD screen. I would prefer the top.
  • The screen can wash out in bright sunlight.
  • There are no screws in the back so the battery probably isn't replaceable.

My library has a "media mall" where I can download free books to my Fuze. Can check out up to 5 at a time. Works great for my hour-long daily commute (each way...).

Need a case? I love this one. Leather with screen protector (has a strong velcro strap on back to fasten to belt or arm strap - which is included), and a hard case that snugly fits both leather-encased Fuze and your earbuds in a little pouch.

Have had one for my 4 GB Fuze since new; have one on order for the 8 GB I wooted last month.

Azazelthefallen wrote:I've been using my 8GB sansa fuze in my car and for my workout for the past several months. I rockboxed it as soon as I got it and it has been running well. It's simple, has a fair amount of the space for the price, expandable microSDHC slot, smooth wheel click rotation, 8-14 hour battery life, and it's durable. My fuze has been dropped a few times while running, and it still works great!

Also, get some decent ear buds/IEMs because the stock headphones are OK at best.

I should have bought another 8GB just for my car when it was $35. Oh well, hopefully it will come around again.

Ahh you lucky duck. I broke mine while boarding. But that's what happens when 140pounds fall on it...

Its an otterific mp3. Lasted me two years until my little mishap...

I bought 2 of these at a slightly higher price and am delighted with the player. HOWEVER, The "Sansa Media Converter" is nearly useless. Luckily a FREE app is available that solves all the shortcomings of the "Sansa Media Converter" called "Video4fuze". It's dependable, fast and IMO makes the player actually useable. Send the guy a donation! Why Sandisk couldn't do this is beyond me.

For videos you need avi, but only decent luck i've had was using the Sansa MEdia converter which sucks monkey balls. It supports most music formats. FLAC MP3 MP4 etc.

If its a first Gen you can also get Rockbox for it.

Get one of these for your kids and load them with books--keeps them entertained and educates at the same time. I have 5 kids--they all love audiobooks and these Sansas play them with great clarity and are so easy to load. If they get lost or broken, you're not out a bundle. Great product.

One thing on Audiobooks: Before you sync them to your Sansa, change the "Genre" tag to "Audiobook" The Sansa will then remember where you last left off (bookmark). This is great for those large single-file audiobooks from netlibrary or overdrive.

shyedam wrote:I bought this same 4GB back in January and I LOVE it. Not only is it great for the usual music and audio books but I also record my class lectures on it.

My classmates also love that I have it because as soon as the recording is finished I upload the lecture in a nice MP3 file that they can download.

The mic on it is pretty good too, I've sometimes been about 20 feet away from my professors and the clarity is still good when I listen later.

I agree. I bring my Sansa's to record meetings and it does a wonderful job. Better than the commercial meeting recorders I've used from office supplies.

12/21/2012 is fast approaching. Better stockpile as many Sansas as possible in order to survive the impending armageddon!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!

I'm still not sure why people make fun of the Sansa line. I've had mine for more than a year now, it's pretty beat-up but keeps going strong. For the price, you can have 2 of these for the price of 1 ipod nano 4GB refurb.

Back to the topic at hand. If the world doesn't end (like it didn't with the comet Hale-Bopp, Y2K, etc), you've gotten a helluva deal on solid long-battery-life mp3 players.

In for 2.

8GB Fuze = $35, so how is this a ripoff at $23? Especially when you add a 32GB micro SDHC card, after which it's a 36GB player, and the other is a 40GB player.
