In for 3 (or 6). Everyone in the reviews posted were from folks who got soaked on shipping and poor customer service. Woot doesn't seem to have that problem. Lots of others paid twice this amount for 1 at Walmart so at 6 for 21 clams including shipping and tax is IMO a nice deal and a cheap stocking stuffer for the active folks in the family.

About the ethical manufacturing in China, Taiwan, Indonesia or wherever it was...if you're really overly concerned about that...don't buy anything, anywhere at any time.

Grow or manufacture it at home...much like I do...Toledo Windowbox.

From all the Negative comments in the links provided are really based on the customer service, the shady practices and upsales. One or two were based on the actual product. Since I am buying from Woot, I am not concerned with Eco's CS. If there is a issue with the product itself I will take it up with Woot! and know I will get the best CS. I've had issues with other items and they dealt with it in a timely manner and great customer service.

All metal bottles Alum. or Steel have coatings. So any acid based liquid might be an issue.

I would not use the 50/50 vinager mix for cleaning. Hot water and a soft bottle brush.

The company web site doesn't have any links. It says that they are available at Wal-Mart & CVS. A check of their web sites doesn't show any EcoCanteen products.

So if EcoCanteen can only be found at Odd Lots/Big Lots, and Woot!, I'd say these guys are either out of business, or on the brink. So the company itself is clearly shady. But I can't find any bad info about the bottles themselves. The price is right, I'm in for 2.

Does anyone know how well the seal and spout on this bottle works?

Even the cheapest spout should hold. Those disposable water bottles are proof of that. But I am curious if it has a one way valve to let air back in the container. I own a Nissan Thermos SS water bottle that has a mechanism like this. Or does this ECO bottle let the air in via the spout.

vinithehat wrote:this is why beverages are sold in aluminum cans, even though steel is so much less expensive. the steel, even stainless, will react with acidic beverages.

Uh, no: aluminum cans replaced the steel cans of old because aluminum weighs so much less [saves shipping costs], is easier to work [melting temp is what, 1/2 that of steel?], and after the initial refining cost, cheaper to recycle [comes back to the lower melting temp thing, over & over again.]

Aluminum is FAR more reactive than stainless steel with various food items. Anything basic, for instance, will eventually eat its way thru aluminum. Fortunately, we're a mostly acid-loving life form [if you've never noticed, anything even slightly basic will taste horrifically bitter] so aluminum has gotten a good rap. Except for the link to Alzheimer's & all... ;)

EcoCanteen's website "Customer Service" link:

Eco Canteen will no longer be shipping customer orders directly.

Please note that when you placed your order online, or by phone, your credit card was not charged. Eco Canteen only charged credit cards once an order was ready to ship from our warehouse facility.

If you have not seen a charge from Eco Canteen on your credit card, your order has not shipped, so please consider your order cancelled. The Eco Canteen can now be purchased at Wal-Mart, CVS & other fine retailers.

If you have received a charge on your credit card from Eco Canteen, but have not received your product, or have other questions about your order, please send an email to customerservice@EcoCanteen.org.

Thank you,

Ultimately, I think, this deal on WOOT! is a great deal and we should all take advantage of it because that way Eco Canteen will make less profit the more we buy at WOOT! Right?
Plus I think that the concept of steel over plastic is solid in its foundation. Although who knows where(China?)it is made.

But...

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this yet or not, but, I found this article about a lawsuit against the Eco Canteen company. Information about this lawsuit can be found here.

On a personal note I believe in reducing our foot prints, reusing our depleted resources and recycling what can be. But A company like Eco Canteen that takes advantage of people that want to do good is seriously skanky.

Also the blogger at this site once thought that this was a good company and a good idea but then others started responding about how crappy the Eco Canteen customer service was how Eco Canteen ripped everyone off , I think she felt bad.

I would like covers over the spouts, too, but it doesn't have anything to do with being germ-phobic. I have a Klean Kanteen with a spout cover that I stick into my bike's bottle cage when I'm riding, and I see a lot of grit sticking to the cover whenever I pop it off to suck on the spout.

However, my bottles with spouts don't have loops & carabiners for attaching to my shorts when I'm hiking. So, this Eco-Canteen looks like a great hiking bottle. I'm getting 6 and giving them as Christmas stocking stuffers.

I love my kleenkanteen (yes it was $16 for one, but none of what you will read in the link)

From Bull Durham "It's 'WEARY' 'She may get 'WEARY' Young women do get 'WEARY' NOONE gets 'WOOLY!' I hate it when people get lyrics wrong!"

war-y [wair-ee]
–adjective, war·i·er, war·i·est.
1. watchful; being on one's guard against danger.
2. arising from or characterized by caution: to give someone a wary look.

So to conclude today's class, it's WARY not WEARY! I am becoming WEARY of those who use words incorrectly. It makes me WARY of the future of humanity.

Buy three of those franklin mp3 dictionaries next time they sell them.

By the way wash your shower shoes. When you get to the "big show" you can let fungus grow on them and then people will say it makes you colorful.

We have 4 of these water bottles. We got them as presents from my mom last year and they are still going strong.

Pro: They really are wide enough for ice. A lot of bottles say they are but many of them mean large enough for those tiny little pellets of ice they have at Sonic.

They don't really leak. Sometimes if you don't get the seal just right and it lays on it's side for a while you will notice it's wet right near the top but the water doesn't come gushing out.

Con: The sport top thing you drink through isn't great. You end up sucking down a lot of air with your water.

Excellent idea. Another poster suggested using chlorine, which is probably a bad idea as Stainless steel and chlorine are generally not a good mix (though short exposure may not be too detrimental and will invariably kill any and all bacteria).

For more info, take a read: http://www.cip.ukcentre.com/rust2.htm

Again, denture cleaner is probably the safest way to go and should provide decent protection/sanitation.... But that's just my humble opinion.

Well Said! Just remember if you choose to freeze it, fill it only part way, then leave the lid off and set it in the freezer sideways. If you fill it full and then freeze with the lid on, chances are it will crack wide open from the expanding liquid as it freezes. Been there; done that....
