Am I better off buying this set or refilling the two 33.8 fl. oz SmartWater bottles I currently own??

Besides water, what other beverages are these steel bottles good for (preferably keeping the drinks cold)??

Anyhue, since woot makes the pricing very transparent, I know I won't have the same bad order experience as buying directly from Eco Canteen website (hopefully). :-)

Well said. It looked to me that most of the bad reviews were about the company and not so much about the product. The product itself will be the premium, $10 upscale bottle on the shelf at your local Walmart, so two for $5 is pretty decent.

As someone that will occasionally sneak alcohol into places that charge insane prices but won't let you bring your own, I'm curious if these will leech a bad flavor into whatever I have in them.

UFGatorHawk wrote:How do these compare to SIGG water bottles?

The Sigg is an aluminum bottle that is actually lined with PLASTIC. In fact, older Siggs had the same BPA problem that the plastic refillables had a few years back. They have now corrected that, so it is not a problem anymore. However, I still feel that a Stainless bottle is light years ahead of an aluminum bottle. More durable, and more compatible with anything you may want to put in it. Try putting orange juice in your unlined aluminum bottle and leaving it there for a while. Not good.

I've been using the same Stainless bottle daily for over 18 months now, with everything from water to juice to milk to crystal light. Just a rinse with hot water and it is good to go. I use soap and water about once a week, or after milk based products, and it is still like new.

Many people here mentioned the benefits of stainless steel, but since the part you put your mouth on is plastic, doesn't that diminish the benefits?

I wouldn't buy any food or beverage containers made in China, especially something like this that's used repetitively. I don't have any confidence in the purity of the stainless steel. It could be contaminated with lead, mercury or any number of harmful substances.

Okay, for those still lacking education...
They are Stainless Steel. That means they are as deadly to you as the knife, fork & spoon you use daily in a thousand stranger things that you would Never put into your water bottle. Clean this bottle the same way you would your silverware!
.
This item will hold Liquid.
If the Liquid is cold, the bottle will be cold.
If the Liguid is hot, the bottle will be hot.
It is NOT insulated.
You can Freeze it.
You can Boil it.
You CANNOT put it in the Microwave!
This item is TALL, and will NOT fit ALL bike cages.
Unless your bike cage has some rubber on it... This bottle will bounce around a bit as it has no indent. But you can squeeze your metal bike cage in a bit to apply more pressure to your bottle. You could also wrap a rubber band around the bottle or on the cage where they meet.
.
Now just buy the damn things and give them away as Halloween, Chanukah or Christmas Gifts!
.

If you can read this in English, Thank a Veteran!

I feel much the same way, but having gotten a Kleen Kanteen as a gift I've used it for quite a while with no problems. I haven't had it tested, though. The plastic cap has a slight taste, but not as bad as many plastic water bottles.

In for 6. They are a bargain at this price. If you want an insulated bottle, you will have to buy a thermos. Been using SS bottles for a couple of years, SS is great, I just love 'em! Of course they are made in China! We don't manufacture small goods or consumer electronics anymore here in the USA.
I don't care what the original company did as far as policy, I'm dealing with WOOT, they have come through OK in the the past.

Todays WOOT is a Stainless Steel Bottle to hold a liquid in. Hopefully something that can be consumed.. I bet someone will fill it with glue and them post a review that they cannot squeeze the last drops out....

You should get a quality post.

I have been saying that for years. On any product, no matter how stellar the reputation, there's someone, somewhere who is a mental slob, the product buttafuocos and then they post the the Net how the product is no good.

Good post.

P.s. On this bottle there will be someone who put scalding hot coffee in it, he burns his hand when picking it up. He then blames Woot and the manufacturer.

Of course he did not take the time to read all the warnings plastered all over. On the box it says that say "Not Meant for Hot Liquids."

My sentiments exactly...most of the time it is a third party that does marketing & sales for a product, and seems to me they did a bad job or this wouldn't be on woot !
Anyway it is not 2 for $5, it is $2 for $10.
Wonder what the reviewers here are still complaining about...except for the plastic & the fact that these things can collect green goo inside...seemed like a good buy to me until I realized we never know whats happening/growing inside ! I'll stick to transparent stuff...

Fill it with hydrogen peroxide (much the same effect as chlorine bleach but MUCH less toxic) and water and let it sit for a few hours, then wash it. It should be fine.

Stainless steel will not react except under very specific (and unusual) circumstances which is why food processing plants are made of the stuff.

I was thinking that too, but after watching the video on you tube, there is no "spout" it's a screw top, like a canteen.

Otherwise, what a wonderful product. According to the video the stainless steel sweats so they come with a sleeve.

The product description says nothing about a sleeve being included, though I did see that on the video as well. Since its not in the product description, I would not count on getting that sleeve.

Can anyone at woot! confirm if an insulated sleeve is included or not?

You're missing half of why people use these and don't do what you do. Plastic bottles like you're reusing start breaking down and leaching chemicals which you then drink. It's not great stuff.

Built NY sells neoprene sleeves to insulate steel bottles, ie:

Got mine at Target for a little less than Amazon. More than today's Woot, but it helps with the single-wall issue.

These canteens are great. GF and I used these on a week long kayak trip. Spout pulls up easily and there were no leaks. These are not insulated, so not hot liquids. single-wall steel construction. These are a steal (pun intended) at this price. In for 3!

mcmaggie1501 wrote:The spout is hard to see in the picture and the other websites showing the product have different caps. When kids stick a water bottle in with a whole backpack of expensive textbooks and library books, the most important feature of any water bottle is the seal and how well the cap works. Does anyone know how well the seal and spout on this bottle works?

The lid itself seals to the bottle watertight, however in order for the spout to operate, there is what I would call a "stopper" just next to the spout. It generally works like a 1 way valve while drinking, allowing air into the bottle while you are pulling water out. It's only leaked on me once, but between external condensation and a lack of trust in that stopper, I would never throw the Eco Canteen into a backpack unless it was filled with gym clothes or a towel. Expensive books or electronics would be out of the question.

I HAD one of these...

Look at the sports top. See that little piece of clear/white plastic? It falls out easily. After a couple washes my water bottle leaked on me. The little plastic piece must have fallen out inthe dishwater and gone down the drain.

Bad design!
