I've wanted silicone oven mitts for a while (just found a hole in my quilted pair the hard way) but I really didn't want them in standard-silicone-yellow.

These are bloody.

seodude wrote:Um, since this glove is resistant to 480 F and everyone's oven goes to 500 F, doesn't it seem as if some engineer somewhere forgot to carry the one???

I've never really understood this. When I heat up a cast-iron pan, my oven's set to 550 degrees for about thirty minutes. If I grab that pan with these things on, are they just going to melt away? I do need two new gloves but I don't want to be holding a 500 degree pan in the process.

kiminca9 wrote:I have 2 of this same brand/size in orange and love them. They're a bit bulky because they're so large but the benefits outweight that every time. They go up enough on your arm that I don't burn myself now with cookie sheets where they tend to hit my wrist when I'm in a hurry.

And being able to dip your hand into boiling water to grab corn - nice!

In for 3 for gifts...

I use mine to lift jars out of my canner. So much easier than that SPOOKTACULAR! can lifter thingie. I also got three. One for me (so I have two now) and a two to give as a pair for a gift.

how is a WHITE oven mitt EVER a good deal--even if you can put it into the Dishwasher--you are not going to get a Lasagna sauce stain out of this sucker...What's next, a toilet-paper holder called a SHAMU---come on!

Does anyone else just see a whole bunch of white when they click the image to enlarge it because of the white oven mitt on the white background?

These are a little cumbersome to use. It is difficult to get a good grip the pans. Also, don't leave them on top of the stove and tell you 17 year old to put on water for tea. These things will melt and burn and leave soot everywhere.

These are great for keeping one's hands burn free. I use mine every time I reach into the oven. Also great for taking an ear of corn right out of boiling water.

One note of caution. Do not let the aforementioned boiling water into the top of the glove. Not only is this a very bad idea, the glove will ensure the water remains very hot while burning your hand.

Are you putting the glove in the oven and baking it? Do you open the oven and place your hands on the pans and just stand there?

If you are only grabbing a pan to take out and set on the counter,, you're fine. I have two and I have broiled steaks at 500 and used them for taking things off the grill at 600 degrees and they didn't melt though.

It's not a bad thing to give just one as a gift. Most of the time I just use one of these and use something else on my other hand that is easier to grip with.

These are also excellent to use if you are lifting/carring a pan that is too heavy - you can support the pan from the bottom if you have one of these on. Think pan of boiled pasta going from stove to sink...
