Agreed. It took almost two minutes to the first gold button, then another two to the second one, and then about a week before I got the confirmation screen.

After 5 years of unsuccessfully clicking on "I want one", finally today "I got one". The gloating of previous winners notwithstanding, we had come to the conclusion that it was not possible to procure a bag of random crap from our location. Now we know that miracles are possible even from our IP address in the hills of Virginia. It's good to not be getting off the bowl all of the time.

I was able to get one this time. I did have wooters.us up and heard the sound but did the normal "buy one" button. After an agonizingly long time I got the order page and then the confirmation page. No special skillz or robots other than hearing the sound from wooters, and I actually saw the screen on another browser session before that went off. It's been a long dry spell since my last bag so I hope it's nifty. Thanks, Woot!

Just for grins, and because someone asked me to on previous threads, I made a tally of what I got in my 12 Bags so far.

For the number of items, multiple identical iterations of a single item count as one. Little extra bits, like paper clips, paper scraps, empty plastic bags and such are not counted.

I define a "Used" item as something I found a purpose for. The purpose may be giving away or donating to a charity auction. A "Real Good" item is something that I may or may not have purchased in the normal course of things, but was happy to receive. The Bags are listed separately.

Twelve Baskets of Cats Contained:

49 total craps, of which 8 were "used" and 10 were "real good". That leaves 31 (64%) of the items being true crap. But it also means that 36% wasn't. I suppose on average I got one or two decent items per bag.

12 Bags, of which 4 were used and 3 were real good.

PeterDave wrote:What I think is in poor taste, is you singling me out of more than 100 posts of people celebrating their luck. Many "bragging" about 10 or more Bucket of Candy in their wooting career. Really, those are just statement of facts.

If you get pulled over for speeding, do you complain that the guy in the car behind you was also speeding? Just because somebody else has committed the same error, doesn't make your own error any less erroneous. And yours was the first I saw that bragged about an unreasonable number of Craps and had absolutely nothing else to say. At least the other commenters had some interesting information on how they scored. I'm also unimpressed with people who have nothing more to post than "missed this one". Again, no real contribution there other than seeing your avatar pop up again.

And poker buddies who gloat after a win? That's also in poor taste.

It's really astoundingly egotistical to say that a perfect stranger should be happy for you because you scored one, or ten. Especially in a zero-sum game such as this.

One thing that has helped me get Craps is what I call my "one click, wait and pray" strategy.

When I first started Wooting I would click the gold buttons, get frustrated with the times it took pages to load and (1)open multiple pages and (2) keep clicking the buttons.

Then I started a Master program in college for Information Systems/ Information Technology and found that what I was doing was counter productive. By opening multiple screens to try and get through and continue clicking pages while they were trying to load I was pushing my data packets out of queue, creating (or at the least exacerbating) bottle necking of data packets and forcing losses of information transferred.

When I started clicking the buy one once and waiting, without multiple clicks and multiple pages, I found myself making it all the way to the final confirmation screen much more often.

This is just my personal observation, but this is also my 10th successful BOC.

this is truly a lucky carp for me!

Your assessment is very valid, it's not just total requests to the servers, but also the likelihood that the server will end up rejecting multiple requests and get them confused, forcing a reset of the connection which can kill your order attempt.

personally I have always had the best success when connected through a connection that I know has very few other people running a connection to woot on, during a woot off I usually have a remote desktop session running on my webserver hosted at a major NOC, fast and there are definitely fewer hops from my server to woots servers compared to going to through all the hoops of a residential ISP.

2 of us in our 10 person office got lucky with the Bucket of Candy today. I think it is because we shut down the people who were streaming video and music from the web (it's called TV and radio people) and freed up our bandwidth. You bet we're going to do the same the next Wootoff !

Was working away on my work computer through vpn, got engrossed, then realized the next item should be up. Flipped back to my open windows and f5'ed my fingers off to no avail. Firefox and IE assured my there was no such woot.com. Tried Opera and IE from the phone -- all is fubar, big time at the woot. Could see the Random Crap on the tracker dropping to 70%, then 35%, so SOMEONE was getting the crap!

Finally got frustrated, flipped back to the work computer on vpn, saw The Bag, hit many gold buttons, and waited and waited and waited then

You may be right. I purchased something during the Woot-off and also scored the Bright Orange Cheetah.
