THANKS ... this worked for me too! (Win 7 32 bit Pro)

After all this, I have written off SMC for keeps.

Unfortunately would not work with my Toshiba Satellite. My first Woot experience!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I still can't port forwarding working on this thing, even after giving the client machines static IP addresses. Also when I run the PFPortchecker tool from portforward.com, it reports that all of the ports I have open in the virtual server rules I created are closed so something isn't right. I hook back up my old router, run the tool again, ports are open as expected. I've owned a couple different brands of routers in my day and port forwarding was simple to setup and always worked. Maybe I'm missing something obvious in my old age?

I ended up having to just use it in Bridge mode for now and have it hooked up to my old router. I didn't want to do this because I hate having 2 devices when I should only need 1 but I simply cannot get port forwarding to work.

use Virtual Server, enable it and use your local machine IP for 'IP Address', like 192.168.2.XXX

Wondering about firmware. Mine is:

System Info
Firmware Version V0.0.4.4 (Dec 8 2009)
System Time Fri, 26 Nov 2010 08:35:01

What is confusing me is while the latest version available off SMC's website )shown below) is the same build number, but the date is from Sep 2010, yet mine says Dec 8, 2009. I am using the latest version correct?

09/20/2010 0.0.4.4 EN 3650 kb
SMCWBR14S-N4 0.0.4.4 Firmware

Going to hang myself. Still cannot get port forwarding working. I've tried everything. Called support but the connection was so bad I couldn't hear them. Tried email support. In the meantime, can someone take a look at my virtual server setup? Does it look correct?

SMC support wrote me back and said to use DMZ and not virtual server. It should work with virtual server. They wrote the following:

Please perform the below steps to open ports:

1. Login to the Router.2. Click on Firewall on the top of the SMC page.3. Click on DMZ.4. Enter the options as >>DMZ Settings: Enable>>DMZ IP Address: Enter the IP address of the device for which thePort Forwarding has to be enabled.5. Click on Apply to save the settings.

Got mine and set it up yesterday. No better performance than my old Belkin Wireless-g router that's like 4 years old. And - if my iPhone goes to sleep, it can't get internet again when it wakes up. That is, the initial connection works fine, but then when the phone wakes up again, the wireless signal shows strong, there is valid IP address info in the panel, but no network connection passes through. "Renew lease" doesn't work (just gets a self-assigned IP). Have to "forget this network" and re-enter password each time. WHAT A PAIN!

I have never had anything like this before on my iPhone in 1.5 years of using it on wifi networks. I tweaked all the settings as suggested in Apple articles, but no luck. I've tried WPA and WPA2 (can't use WPA2 due to my Wii). No luck.

Has anyone else encountered this?

I bought 2 of these with hopes of bridging them together wirelessly. I've tried most settings but I can't get it to work.

Main router connected to cable modem (SMCWBR14S-4N_1)
reset to factory
Operation mode: gateway
Internet, LAN: IP Address(.1) and DHCP On
Wireless, Basic: New SSID
Leave security mode disabled
Wireless, Advanced: Freq Channel = 6
WDS: Lazy, HTMIX

After these settings wired PC and wireless confirmed working

Second router to be used as AP (SMCWBR14S-4N_2)
reset to factory
Operation mode: gateway
Internet, LAN: IP Address(.2) and DHCP On
Wireless, Basic: New SSID(same as above)
Leave security mode disabled
Wireless, Advanced: Freq Channel = 6(same as above)
WDS: Bridge, HTMIX, Mac Address of SMCWBR14S-4N_1 above

Anyone got 2 of these working together, or have any ideas? Thanks.

Can anyone connect to their router using the included SMC USB ethernet adapter when the router is set to N Only? I can only connect if I set the router to G/N mixed. I even tried saying G only and it connected. Since the included USB adapter is an N adapter, shouldn't I be able to connect to the router when it is set to N only? I wanted to test my connection speeds between a G laptop with a built in adapter, Vs the computer that is connecting using this SMC USB adapter that should connect at N.

Thanks everyone.

ugh, so I finally got this installed on a new Win7 64bit system thanks to you guys and this thread and it worked fine for a few weeks...

Now it says it's connected to the network but there is no internet available, obviously tried restarting system/router/everything under the moon with no updates. It did it once for a day, shut the system down overnight and it came back the next day. Not so lucky now.

Any ideas?

I tried the same thing and couldn't get it to work. The settings don't make much sense to me. So I flashed an old Linksys router to DD-WRT and set that to bridge mode. So my SMC is connected to the modem and using the linksys as a bridge in another part of the house got 3 boxes connected to it via straight ethernet. It's working great.

You would think the SMC's would be able to talk to each other much easier.
