[quote postid="4243545" user="mvsopen"]This is a good and useful tool, 1/2 the price of a Leatherman.

Have the nice people at SOC obtained a license from Tim Leatherman, or otherwise honored his patents?

The man worked for years perfecting his tool, only to be hammered by cheap knock-offs.

Just remember, don't try to take one of these onto a plane, otherwise you'll need a corkscrew attachment to get the TSA's fist out of your... affairs.

Oh, yeah, one other thing. I've got a SOG multitool (different model). Well-made, though you do have to clean the thing out from time to time... dust-bunnies and schmütz accumulate in the handles around the tool-blades, especially if you keep it in a pocket.

@c00rdb ,this will definitly be too big for your key chain. It go on you belt with the included leather pouch. I usually keep this in my glove compartment or backpack when go hiking. Never know when I need to chop down the wood and built shelter for the night.

I would call SOG about that if it's been used normally. Mine hasn't rusted a bit, and it has gotten wet. I always made sure to wipe it and the tools down (as much as I could) when I was finished with it though.

Close to $100, actually.

Ok, so I totally didn't read through the product description before I bought it so I was completely shocked by the new cases, they are larger, thicker leather (slightly), a small section of basketweave print, and have a pocket on the bottom for a 1/4 socket head. This is the perfect addition to the package as otherwise, I've had to carry a small array of socket heads/bits in another bag to use with the 1/4" drive adapter.

Only complaint is that the head seems to be easily removed from the left side of the case only, but needs to be pushed out from either the right side or inside, limiting its accessibility and slowing you down. Still excellent and the belt loop is still generously sized for all types of belts

I ordered two SOGs, one for my son and one for my nephew. The box came in today and now I have SOG envy. I should have ordered one for myself as well.

Welcome. You are new to Woot, I see.

Woot typically kicks stuff out of the warehouse within 5 business days (not counting the day of the sale). When all orders have shipped, a very kind staffer will post an update in this thread. Shortly thereafter (with luck), you'll get an email with your tracking information. However, you can always look on My Account for a tracking number or by order number on the FedEx site. There's a link to instructions on how to do this in my link.

All that said, today was the 4th business day. The Woot Off could slow things down a bit but rest assured our little warehouse monkeys are busily working. Screaming their danged heads off, but working. You should see some progress on Monday or Tuesday.

The sale should be showing on My Account very shortly after your purchase. Make sure you are looking on the My Account from Woot (not another site) -- HERE.

If you aren't seeing the purchase, contact service@woot.com to find out what went wrong. If you do see the purchase, see the post above.

Well here it is 7 days (5 business days) and no tracking info, taking 5 days to ship an order is horrible for an online retailer. A joke actually.

Got my SOG on Saturday! Although I never got an e-mail notification of it being shipped, and my account still hasn't been updated to show that it has, it showed up at my door over the weekend!

Yeah, that's what worries me. I also have not yet gotten any shipping confirmation. (And my order status hasn't changed.) I often never get package notices (I think they blow off the outside door), so if I don't know it's coming, I might not get it at all.

There seems to have been some sort of problem with shipping noticifcations across the past woot-off, I emailed an got a tracking number a few days ago, and now mine is with the local post office. With standard shipping it should be here tomorrow or fates willing today.

It seems to me that almost every single woot I am a part of - it has shipping issues.

Now I'm all for a curse just following me around, but I really doubt that. Is this really that common place with our woot products?

I have ordered many things off of shirt.woot without any of these issues!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. Last 3 things I bought (including this) have been delayed. I didn't get my buckyballs for over a month.

Ordered 2 of these as Christmas gifts so I'm hoping they come in sometime soon.

About 20 minutes after I posted that I got the tracking e-mail and one of mine was already delivered and another one is sitting in Houston. Both apparently shipped some time last week.

BTW, this thing is BADASS. The blade is one of sharpest I've seen fresh out of the box. My arm has a bald patch to prove it.

I received my shipping notification about an hour ago, but that was about 7 hours after I received one of the "We didn't bother knocking on your door and just crammed a notice in your mailbox because we're lazy" slip from the USPS man.

I'll have to pick mine up later this week.

Mine arrived today. Not bad except the generic pouch.

This thing is bone dry. Must have been ultrasonically cleaned or something. Usually they have a little dab of white lithium grease on the gears/pivot points. Oh well, time to oil them a little.

not bad? Got mine today too and i was surprised at how huge this thing is. The sheath is gigantic. Also the thing feels like cheap sheet metal bent into shape, and the blades are loose (wiggle while in the locked position). Anybody else have the same impression? Maybe i just got a defect? Interested in hearing other feedback. I guess i'm comparing it to my leatherman wave that i lost and thought this would be a comparable replacement...

Mine will wiggle just a bit, in and out of lock. No movement side to side. I do not see any marking of where it was made. I saw on a website it was assembled in the U.S. but nothing on the box or tool that I saw. The thing is a lot heavier than I thought it would be.

So I received my order for this the other day. One question I have is about the 1/4 (quarter)inch driver, or rather the socket that comes with this. The driver fits in the square opening, but the business end of the socket was machined in an oblong hexagon sort of shape--hardly the right shape for 1/4 inch nuts or bolts, yet it seems to do the trick. What was the rationale behind this???

I've checked this out on the SOG site and the little owner's manual, but can't find an explanation.

(Sigh) No, I didn't. It's on the SOG site, and I only looked through it hoping to find a nugget of wisdom regarding this socket thing. I have a firm understanding of multi-tool rudimentaries. No manual necessary, but I like to be aware of innovations and their purpose.

I don't think SOGs usually come with a socket. I think that's just because of the aftermarket sheath. It appears it belongs to a Powerplay Paladin multitool. Interestingly enough, it looks like they use SOG's compound leverage system.

I think I'm going to order some SOG pouches. I'm almost embarrassed by this leather one. Wouldn't make a good gift.

If your tools are loose, try tightening the hex bolt. SOG is smart enough to make it so you can replace your tools. So yours just might be loose.

It looks like they made the hex end proprietary so you have to buy their bits...socks!

Actually, it is a standard 1/4" bit. It's just not machined on center but slightly to one side, probably to offset the torque of an offset handle. I've used the bit with mine to remove quite a number of 1/4" machine screws already and it's fit every time, no problem.

Also, any 1/4" square drive socket will fit, just push it on from corner to corner instead of flat to flat. The springs built into the socket holder will tighten and hold the socket or bit securely. Works like a freakin' champ! Beats every Leatherman I've ever owned, which has been quite a number. This is one outstanding tool once you learn the mechanics of how it works and what it can do.
