I do not think they are sound activated, but just play sound. You hook up an mp3 player to them and they play music out of a speaker. At least if you are talking about the snowmen they had around last xmas and earlier this year in a few wootoffs.

blah.. cameras.. let's get some weird tech that no one has seen or heard of before up here.. I miss the good ole woot days.

Michael: (as they get up) G.O.B.?! What are you doing?!

G.O.B. Fleeing the country, you bastage?!

Michael No, I’m still not fleeing!, okay? I’m just here to pick up my son’s girlfriend. (points at her, G.O.B. looks) She ran off the last time we were leaving.

Ann 2.0 Actually, I-I was sitting right there the whole time.

George Michael: Yeah, way to plant, Ann!

Michael George Michael, why don’t you and Plant just wait in the staircar? I’m just going to finish up with G.O.B.

George Michael: What a scare. (leaves with Ann)

G.O.B. What? That’s his girlfriend?

Michael Yeah.

G.O.B. What, is she funny or something?

I bought the 7MP version. It was absolute junk, quality was low and the battery died with in a couple months. Don't think that the MP matter, it is the quality of the algorithm that truly matters. Kodak and Cannon are the best at math.

Buyers Beware...

That is nice. Only thing I see (aside from a small image sensor, which is standard for a point and shoot) is it doesn't have much of an aperture range, but for under $150, you're going to have to make sacrifices somewhere. Still, assuming it's got a good lens, those are some nice specs for that price.

My daughter (13) and my oldest son (10) want's a digital for Christmas, Problem is this is not much cheaper than the Nikon they had at Target for 79.99 reg 150.00 I should have snag the Nikon. I was worried about paying the old AMX bill later. Anyway, for me to even think about this I need more specs.

Does it do Video? AVI, Mpeg etc. Does the Video have sound? Someone mentioned it only has 64MB of internal memory. I would hope it has an SD card slot. I doubt I'll buy but those are the minimum specs I need. Must be 14MP with a at least a 4x optical zoom.

I did buy my 13 year daughter the Ipod 8GB touch so I hope the camera feature with it will suffice until I can get another digital.

Ahhh, I see the specs now. Hmmm, now I'll have to decide. I'm thinking the deal is just not enough to sway me to a Polaroid. It would suit though I'm sure.

I'm a tech dummy and some help. Trying to find a camera would make a good gift. Looking to spend max $100 on a camera that'll do all of the basics well.

How far out of the loop am I? Last time I bought a camera it was 4 megapixel at 3-4x this price and back then it was considered a steal.

Any information you guys want to send along would be appreciated.

Regards,
-Rich

I couln't have said it better. Woot's never been known for consistently selling the newest shiny thing that's not what they are aiming for. Cheap prices (most of the time), humor/sarcasm, and a community discussion board, that's what Woot is all about!

I, too, purchased this camera and absolutely love it! I've had 2 other of the digital Polaroids and one had a manufacturing flaw; the other one was great and I still use it. So far, I love this latest one the best. It's so easy to operate and I found there was very little lag time in between shots. Not enough internal memory...just pop in a card and you are set.

Hehe, I noticed this too and suspect that the "oh, for the good old days" comments probably started on day 2 of Woot's existance. Not just Woot though, people are like this about everything. I usually view this type of critisism as a sure sign of success and the more such comments, the higher the success.

I have been slurking for a few months and just got an account yesterday - if I every post such a comment, please revoke my membership card.

Man...I wish camera makers would focus on image quality rather than just on stuffing more pixels in.

At some point, you actually lose quality because the sensor is packed to tight.

Polaroid's cameras have been made by three different manufacturers (and probably dozens of subcontractors) over the past few years. The company hasn't really existed other than as a name for a decade. So it's really a crapshoot in terms of what you will get, but it's likely to just be a rebadge of the cheapie generic cameras also on the market.

Not to mention "14 Megapixel" is a bad sign unto itself.

radi0j0hn

quality posts: 78 Private Messages radi0j0hn

The quality of the lens and the precision surrounding how it is mounted is FAR more important than 8, 10, 12 or 14 MP. I have a Lumix with a Leica-designed lens that blows away most cameras, and it is only 8 MP.
"Polaroid" is just a name some company bought and slapped on mediocre Chinese cameras. If Woot wanted to, they could buy the same camera and label it WOOTOMATIC.

I might buy one of those, hint hint.

acpress.com Not cute, but useful.
